Not sure how much more is going to have to happen before people wake up and realize 'big tech' shouldn't wield so much power and influence in American society...

I ended about $37,000 up. I was about $40,000 up, but some of my stop-losses only occurred when there was a massive drop, so it sold and filled a lot cheaper (and underneath) than what I placed for them. I also tried to see if these would end on a high... nope, they both went down at the very end, and I cut some losses there as well.

I don't know if tomorrow will be any better based on how these two flatlined, and I sure as hell didn't want to keep anything after closing just in case. I think I'm going to go back to my own personal investments being a little up, which is good but not as well as I could've done (if I had practiced day-trading regularly, I would have done much, much better).

You did great. In every trade ever made, the person could always have done just a little bit better. But so what? No one ever went broke taking a profit.

I bought 2,500 shares of NOK right before closing time it was the most active stock traded today and closed down a lot. So basically start fresh with it tomorrow on what I paid for it.

Was big tech driving this? I thought it more of a clash with hedge funds/the "shadow & dagger" Wall Street crowd.

No, sorry, I wasn't clear - I was responding to RobinHood app shutting down trading of Gamestop today/yesterday. No real reason for it, lacking any evidence that anything untoward or illegal is happening. Anyone not using that app could trade the name all they wanted to.

charleschwab, webull, fidelity, etrade, TD Ameritrade and many others all shut down retail buying at various points today according to users. I believe that all but Robin Hood reinstituted the ability to buy prior to the markets closing, or at least most of them did.

RH has announced that they will allow limited trading on Friday on GME, AMC, etc...

I am looking forward to what the investigations into these brokers find.

I still dont get why Reddit users are essentially bloating the stock for what seems to be to me, facetious reasons.

                      Am I missing something?

                        Re: OS stock investing thread

Investopedia has a pretty good explanation of the theory behind what is happening.

                        tl;dr

Gamestop's stock was heavily shorted. People noticed this, and as the stock saw some upwards momentum, more people jumped on board, increasing the price further, creating a squeeze which would force those shorting the stock to buy back in, ever increasing the price.

From what I read it basically sounds like a guy with millions in GME stock on reddit convinced a bunch of people to get in on it because he noticed a hedge fund company had taken massive amounts of short trades against GME and it basically bankrupted the hedge fund, they lost more than the 13.1 BILLION they were worth.

                          ****ing crazy if true.

Yeah, there were more short options on the stock than there were available shares; once that happens, you're ripe to get nailed. Downside of options trading: your losses can be infinite.
