So yeah I have Covid, again.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

                      Re: Off-Topic

Tipping etiquette question for those who have been through this.

Tomorrow they are finishing installing the fence in the backyard. It started on Monday but they only have the gates to do tomorrow so it was about a two day job (we're actually not sure why they left today at 3:15 with only 2 gates to put on but that isn't factoring into this).

It's a big yard and a 13k job for a very basic fence.

Question is this as the google searches are all over the place. Some say don't need to tip at all as they are paid well. From what I can tell, I'm not sure how much I believe that unless it is under the table (possible).

Some say a tip in the $20 - $50 range is appropriate regardless of size of the job as it's just a nice gesture for a job well done.

And even some say you should tip same as you would at a restaurant so 15-20%. I will say option three is out. Not tipping another couple grand for this.

Just curious on your thoughts. Assume the job was average and neither above or below average.

you need a tip calculator. I suggest picking up the Wizard, not the Willard. all I know about tipping is you gotta leave a chambermaid more than a dollar. that, and Ann Landers sucks. sorry

but really, I'd probably just go with a twenty dollar bill

I've never had a fence installed, but my back deck I had built by professionals due to it being multi-layer.

I didn't tip and never even considered it. I did offer drinks, food, the use of my fridge, and to come inside if they got hot to take breaks and cool down. On the last day when they were tiding things up, I threw some burgers on the grill and fixed them lunch as a thank you.

There are jobs where I think tipping is proper etiquette (server, delivery driver, etc..) but thats due to the low wages and that is how people in that industry make any real money. But professional builders, installers, etc...I would never tip, but would be courteous in offering food and drink.

You're paying $13k for the job, that's a good bit of money. I would just pay that and not give it a 2nd thought.

Considering that there are people who get angry and resentful at the idea of tipping a food server anything, I'd say your mind should be free and clear of any of those "am I jerk here" thoughts lol.

They left before I could see all this but you guys were all right lol.

I erred on the side of caution and gave them a small tip each but they were overly gracious about it and I could tell it wasn't expected. OH well - lesson learned.

I especially liked CB's idea, could have done the burgers for them (I was giving them water) and that would have been just as good because they would have been paid for sticking around a little bit longer to eat.

Had an AC unit removed and a new one installed last year, did the same. Tipped both guys 10-15 each on top, said they were going to grab beer since the job finished at like 5-5:30
