I watched one of those shows The Weather Channel shows late at night about a mall in Jonesboro, Arkansas that took a direct hit from a tornado right at the beginning of Covid (probably a good thing as the mall only had essential employees in it). Only a couple of the anchor stores reopened after the fact.

Re: Off-Topic
Weird, this is the first time ever I saw Radio Shack being mentioned by anybody IRL.I guess it depends on the city/neighborhood as well.
My neighborhood has 2 malls. 1 was a big one, the other was a smaller one (a Zellers, which was Canadian equivalent of Walmart, a Radio Shack, and then some small stores and services). The smaller one is still open, although it's mostly dead because the main store closed, and theres really nothing else to do there. I'm surprised it hasn't been demolished ages ago and them doing the new thing of condos on top and stores on the bottom.
Always kind of thought it was only a fictional Little Sheldon thing.

Re: Off-Topic
It just got turned into "The Source" which I think was owned by Circuit City.
The radio shack also sold video games which was a good reason to go there.Comment

Some mom and pop stores are still like that.
There was a video game store near my house that did this. I got a few games early from that place. The owners were nice but also did give off shady vibes.Comment

I miss Radio Shack, Circuit City, and Fry's for sure.
I was so glad to see a Fry's in Jordan Peele's Nope. The one nearest me growing up had a western theme to it. I don't know if they all had their own kind of theme as the one in his film had an alien invasion theme (I guess its outer shell still exists and he revived the rest?).Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

There is still an FYE in near me. It's more of a Hot Topic-lite type of place now.Comment

Just like that summer is over.
To me tomorrow is just Tuesday, but it still feels different when suddenly everyone on vacation are back, commute is busier, kids going back to school, and sports season is starting up/baseball coming up to playoffs.Comment

Here in Cali there's a heatwave and PGE is trying to get people to use less power between 4pm-9pm, and they are offering money off your bill if you use less than normal. They're calling it a Power Saver Rewards Event. Makes it sound so festive and ... capitalist? Very retail. And dystopian.Comment

Re: Off-Topic
I'm pretty sure they all had their own themes. Which I always found so weird and borderline un-professional (like they were just a back-alley pop-up hawking electronics that 'fell off the back of the truck'). There was one in SoCal that had like a 'tropical island' theme, and then another one that had the 'western theme' you're referring to. I recall 1-2 others. Fry's was great, but always gave me vibes like it was someone's side-hustle.I miss Radio Shack, Circuit City, and Fry's for sure.

Don't even get me started on PG&E. They are like the ultimate arsonist firefighters (literally, sans the 'firefighters' part...). Of all the utility companies I've ever had the displeasure of doing business with, they're the worst. Here in Cali there's a heatwave and PGE is trying to get people to use less power between 4pm-9pm, and they are offering money off your bill if you use less than normal. Re: Off-Topic
Saw this on Wikipedia. Does this not happen where you live? The article mentions a few other places this is common. I'd always assumed this was done everywhere. I've noticed more and more lights have left turn green signals now, which makes this a moot point at such lights. The Pittsburgh left involves two cars facing one another waiting at a traffic light (which lacks a left turn signal), one turning left and one going straight. The left-turning car will anticipate the green light, although ideally not actually entering the intersection on the red.
As the light turns green, the left-turning car will proceed left ahead of the opposing traffic, frequently with the signaled assent of the opposing traffic. By accepting a modest delay in going straight, the opposing traffic has saved the left-turning traffic waiting an entire light cycle to turn left, as well as saved an equivalent amount of time for all the cars that otherwise would have been stuck behind the left-turning car.Comment
