That was one of my favorite things about the country even when I was in Tokyo.
How Japan resolves any problem in their country is superb. I watched a YT video outlining how Tokyo developed an underground anti-flooding system...truly remarkable.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

This has been fomented by supposed "leaders" of all stripes. Making every small thing national news. Never letting any crisis go to waste. You name it. Making everything a "cause" and telling everyone their feelings on everything are not only welcome but influential and important too. Constant encroachment into every aspect of every day. I'm sorry, if something is a problem in Knoxville TN, I don't really care. Handle it and shut up. This is why, for example, daily occurrences that might have 30 years ago been like "lol you'll never guess what happened to me in the line at Subway today" turns into front page story for days, propogated and spread through all channels. Because of whiny, self-important *******s and the need to inflate. Just look at r/publicfreakout.

People have a license to be uncivil, people have a reason to promote indecency because they've shunned decency. There's multiple instances of decency being demonized and guess what----indecency wins out in the end. People see it works, so they try it themselves, and see it's successful, and then more "revolutionaries" are created because hey everyone's a vigilante, a journalist, a photographer, a writer, an editor etc by virtue of that little device in their pockets. And since nobody has the gumption to say "No, this **** stops here" (and how could they when they go after your life, your job, your, your family, your existence, etc) all it is it just gets rolled to the next grievance.

In short, and this is just one aspect of a puzzle that's been slowly filled in over God knows how long, people are flexing.

Kids see this, this is the world they're growing up in. This is how they think everything works now. And they're not wrong, because it is how it works now. There was (don't tell me there wasn't, I lived through it) a time where **** happened and people wouldn't care. But now they're bred to care. And then they get surprised if anyone dare to push back.
It's complete cultural, social, political, economic rot coupled with certain technological developments that have encouraged this.
And it's only gonna get worse. Even in the last few years especially, it's gotten way worse. And they're told that they're being virtuous and solving problems even though they're creating more and more.

      Rough times ahead.
Thanks for the reply. I see your point.

I've always found the "let's agree to disagree" statement to be what stubborn people who don't want to hear out or consider other points of view end up saying.

A lot of our ship repairs were done by host nation and I loved it. They could do what American contractors did in half the time and you didn't have to worry about them stealing your tools, pissing in the bilge, etc. They were just so incredibly efficient. It's OT, but I do miss that country a lot and at the time of my departure I was so over it.

It doesn't surprise me they have been handling the virus relatively well considering what I know about the culture, mask wearing, cleanliness, etc. I have friends there that own a few bars and they have been open with the exception of being required to close for Golden Week when everything is packed.

You mean you don't remember when everyone was holding hands and singing the Macarena in the 90s?

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

I remember the militia movement and the proliferation of extreme political talk shows that raged on politics. I also remember, because I was a board-op for KCMO Radio in the 90’s, so many of those shows going off the air after April 19th, 1995.

With militias and all this Q nonsense, I expect (fear) that we are waiting for another moment that changes everything. And frankly, the result could go either way. Our better angels don't always win.

But this is just a new form of the same dance going on since three people voted to decide which direction to take while hunting mammoths.

So here in Georgia it was decided that returning to school would be delayed.

With this kind of mindset it isn't really surprising why we are at where we are. Below is a post from one of my neighbors.

"well done you unemployed Karen's and Ken's. your idiocy has resulted in schools not being opened for face to face learning. Those of us that have two working adults, and single parent families with a worker now must suffer while all those people with too much time on their hands are able to nurse their kids through online learning. I hope that someone punches you all in your masked faces"

Has anybody done the Google conspiracy challenge? Just curious. You go into Google type any three numbers and then type new cases. You always get that number of cases.

Can anyone explain this? Because it's very odd.

195 countries reporting daily incremental/decremental metrics in some form for over 10,000 cities at the town, city, county and state level for 7 months... That's your reason.

It would just be a link to the map of the world.

It's a global pandemic and almost every town, city, county, state and country is counting down to zero daily (and sometimes multiple times a day), unless they're counting up... for the last 200 days.

That's not even considering reports from individual employers, and reporting on specific outbreaks.

But yeah for real the early 90’s and post-9/11 would like to have a word. Or the 60’s. Or the 70’s.
