As someone that mocked one protest and believe strongly in the other, I've been pretty consistent in saying all the protests are bad for viral spread but here's what I don't understand......

they.. won lol. The country is open. Why is winning not good enough? You got most of what you protested for and it's still not good enough because someone on CNN was mean 3 months ago? Just bizarre to me that we're still litigating this.

Unless its states and governors. Then it's a no no unless its fair and balanced public shaming.

I do hope the governor of Oklahoma is getting the poop mocked out of him everywhere he goes right now.

Cuomo ordered a cleaning plan for subways on April 29, lol. Like, what?! What took so long, broski?

As someone who took public transportation in NYC until the stay at home order was invoked, it was a joke.

I take the subway at a 1st/last stop station. In the mornings there would be cleaners just standing around doing nothing. I ask 1 dude, "what's up with the cleaning" when the train pulls in, dude straight up told me...

"Cmon man, this is the MTA" We don't wipe down anything, that's done overnight before trains are sent out.

Whatta joke. I truly believe the subway system was the main vehicle of covid transmission in NYC.

There was no social distancing and hardly no one was wearing mask

Y'all would love Japan's public transportation.

              Affordable.
              Clean.
              Quiet.
              Efficient
              Respectful

That was one of my favorite things about the country even when I was in Tokyo.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

Subways have exactly the same problem bars have, but worse. They absolutely should have been shut down day one.

Will be interesting to see what a train car full of people wearing masks would be like for transmission. More and more, evidence is showing that the prime transmission is from airborne aerosol of the virus, and that masks, even the lest restrictive, are is doing a ton of good.

Retailers going progressively faster to require masks in all stores is a good sign. The fact is, Walmart won’t recover sales until people feel safe shopping in their stores. And I have to believe that retail chains have seen the effect of the virus on their workforce, so masks also keeps someone employed.

Hopefully the trend continues, and it works. I still believe we need 6-8 weeks of a massive shutdown, which will make masks and new protocols more effective on the other side, which will allow a real re-opening. While the spread is so high, masks can only do so much. The point was to never let it get this bad, which is why we shut down over far less the last time.

I think we are still a month or two away from folks getting on board, though. Maybe sooner when the death rate begin climbing again. But if masks can reduce cases and hospitalizations that are rising, maybe we can ride it out with that. But I think it will be a super slow decline, and people become fatigued, and we might see an economic slowdown continue for over a year.

Of course, the real problem is we need leaders to not just let it happen, but to be involved in making it work. A shutdown tomorrow won’t work. It needs to be sold in a bipartisan manner. That, unfortunate will require a lot more deaths.

Chase beat me to it but yeah, the mass transit modes in other countries are so much cleaner, more efficient, and cheaper.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

People will never be "on board" again because of what happened last time.

You'd have to bring in the military for a 6-8 week shutdown. As we know, many people are reluctant to allow even police to do their job to enforce stuff. But the military coming in? That's a whole other beast. People didn't even like the national guard waiting on standby in late May and early June during the protests and riots.

I know you're an advocate of that. But, that's what that would require.

And I'm sure Japan's is better. Product of the people and culture there. Perhaps the only country that might actually have clean public transport. Other countries say, European countries, are even worse than NYC as far as cleanliness, space, etc. I'd rather drive a hundred times before taking public transportation once. Wretched.

One of the most recognizable cities on the planet and we have a third world mass transit system.

I disagree. The tube and whatever the hell the French call theirs are much better than NYC, DC, BART, and Atlanta's.

Meanwhile, Arizona and Texas are bringing in refrigerated trucks as morgues are filling up.

You misunderstood. I know people aren’t on board. And if massive mask compliance is as powerful as we hope, may never need to happen. What I’m waiting for are the events that lead people get on board, which is what I’m afraid of. We keep doing this, observing that trends point to catastrophe, being called alarmist, and then the trend coming true. But because there are so many variables, scientists haven’t been able to pin point when.

That gives governors like DeSantis to say this:

                              <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Qm6yjTrGkLc" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The time lag between infection, hospitalization and death provides ample opportunity to act or to cover up. And as the cases soar, the federal government has now prevented the CDC from getting data.

So I wait, while I see if this time doing the bare minimum, if that, will work. Only this time there is a more concerted effort to hide and manipulate data.
