Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
I wonder if things would have been different if the fairness doctrine didn’t get eliminated in 1987. It “forced” the news to talk about both sides of an issue. When people say the media was less biased back in the day this was probably why.

I think we can all at least agree that the U.S. response to this pandemic as a whole and at basically every level has been 1 giant cluster****Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
I don't care about the school thing, do whatever is right for each school district. The very fact that the executive branch is even involved in such a thing proves we're too far gone in the size and scope anyway. Don't know about study referenced, don't care about the study. Don't care about the press secretary or the person she represents. Open, don't open, we're all ****ed anyway.
I care about honest representations by highly influential people. Look at this bull****.

The difference though is the administration has lost the benefit of the doubt. She said the quiet thing out loud and then propped up cherry picked research that doesn't even support their conclusion.I don't care about the school thing, do whatever is right for each school district. A study of the impact of the virus on children has little relevance to them going back to school, as it ignores the impact on teachers and the community if every school day becomes a super-spreader event.
It's a direct quote. Context actually backs it up for those paying attention or not dismissing inconvenient details.
Here is the study by the way: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...rticle/2766037
Their findings? That the White House says justify schools resuming as normal?
48 children were admitted to 14 PICUs in the US and none in Canada. A total of 40 children (83%) had preexisting underlying medical conditions, 35 (73%) presented with respiratory symptoms, and 18 (38%) required invasive ventilation, and the hospital mortality rate was 4.2%.
I mean holy **** man, you want not presenting things in context. The headlines could read 'White House OK with 38% of kids on ventilators and more than 4% to die in order to reopen schools' and would be in line with the messaging today. Only adjustment needed would be some statistics related to the number of children with qualifying preexisting conditions.
...and it still ignores teachers, staff and community exposure as a result of schools reopening.
edit: later in the thread we've moved on from this tangent, so please consider doing the same. Leaving it here for context. Thanks.Last edited by mestevo; 07-16-2020, 11:53 PM.Comment

You guys also had one of the most brutal airports I have ever seen (getting better now) in La Guardia.
Welcome to America!
Go check out German airports, they are marvels.

At this point I'm convinced that covid is sentient, and that Kemp is a puppet for itGeorgia Governor Kemp has filed a lawsuit against Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and the Atlanta City Council following her efforts to require face masks in public places during the pandemic.

The problem is, the science is against it. The CDC guidance that was pulled called opening schools the highest risk action facing the country.I don't care about the school thing, do whatever is right for each school district. There is absolutely science that shows schools can open, but not under current conditions. Part of the goal of the shutdown was to create time to either squash the virus or to plan for contingencies. That’s not what happened, and schools are wholly unprepared.
Israel tried opening schools and failed.
Of 1,400 Israelis diagnosed with COVID-19 last month, 657 (47 percent) were infected in schools. Now 2,026 students, teachers, and staff have it, and 28,147 are quarantined.
And the reason everyone jumped to the same conclusion about what she said was that it repeated what Pence said last week when asked about why the CDC guidelines were being written, the CDC guidelines can’t keep schools from opening.
They want schools open because it is an essential aspect of opening an economy. But they don’t have any interest in actually doing the work it takes. Instead of work, they had schools draw up documents to avoid being sued.
If this is your problem with the media, the problem is the media you e decided to trust guys like Drew Holden, whose entire schtick is using Twitter to take comments out of context and assemble them to mock journalists. I mean, he’s the ****ing problem.Comment

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
That's all fine and dandy and again, I don't really care what the studies say or anything as it pertains to that specific issue. Don't give a **** about her or anything about her. Not my battle and never will be my battle. There hasn't been a decent, dignified press secretary since Dana Perino, tbh.
And yeah they don't have the benefit of the doubt. Never said they did. But that you said that out loud is what matters. "Doesn't matter what she actually said because they're wrong anyway so it's OK that they were lying and misrepresenting to millions of people who ingest this content about what she supposedly said." It's like people who think Palin's dumb *** said the Russia from my house! thing when it was actually Tina Fey.
I'm talking about the misrepresentation of what was said vs. what was spread.
It matters. And it explains why people don't have trust and seek out other ****. And, most importantly, it should explain to people why we are where we are with this and all things. That's my main goal with life. I want everyone to understand why and how we got here and why and how we're going where we're going. Though I know it's completely pointless because, funny enough, lol nothing matters even in the slightest.
It's hilarious that you think this Holden guy's entire shtick is that when he's literally posting screenshots of like 30 media members and other supposedly more trustworthy people taking this secretary loser's comments "out of context" and assembling them to straight up lie and obfuscate to *their* own readers. He's not the problem at all and it seems to disappoint you that this guy documents people's bull**** like that. Not sure what's supposedly so untrustworthy about a guy who shares screenshots of many, many, many people saying the same lie.
Whatever man. This is why this **** isn't allowed in this forum. No sucking those bullets back now.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 07-16-2020, 10:19 PM.Comment

I get the insinuation about "you aren't fooling anyone" and all I can say is that I guarantee you guys I hate these people more than you guys ever could.
But whatever. You guys can have it. Pointless to discuss any further and maybe one day if all this virus **** is over I can go back to not caring at all and letting the whole thing burn to the ground like I did when I withdrew from the vast majority of discussion of such topics over the last few years. Only got sucked in again because of the severe importance of the virus and the breaking news surrounding it.
No sense in running around in circles. This **** ain't healthy.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 07-16-2020, 10:35 PM.Comment

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
The issue is it becomes rarer and rarer when people's political identities become wrapped up in social media avatars, and IRL attempts at relating to people with opposing viewpoints are sabotaged before they begin. There are more places/outlets for people to wallow in the muck than ever before.Comment

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
It never did. The civility of the past was just oppression by a different name. It's easier for both sides of the aisle to get along when neither have to actually represent large segments of the population. Then you add social media which further democratizes the public sphere. True some people on Twitter might not check all of the niceties boxes but how would anyone feel when they finally get a chance to speak after 30, 40, 50 years of being ignored? It's only natural.
Calls for civility of the past are often just thinly veiled ways of saying "i miss when i didn't have to hear from *those* people." Then instead of doing the difficult thing and engaging with these new voices to build a bigger tent, you just scream "BOTH SIDES" and storm out of the room. This is why "both sidesism" irks me so much. It is presented as some high minded intellectualism when it's actually the laziest thing you could do.Last edited by dsallupinyaarea; 07-17-2020, 06:07 AM.NFL - Vikings
