I mean, I know you left it out intentionally but the important part of that article is the whole "new partner" part which makes her article basic common sense.

What the article willingly omits is that people are conscious about getting it at all aren't going to be getting intimate with someone new whereas someone who isn't afraid of it won't care at all.

So basically it was an article of just more of the same.

Yes, swapping spit is the easiest way to contract it from someone else. That will lead to pretty much a 100% chance of contracting it if one of the two is positive.

Even the most stout anti maskers would admit to that.

You're the naive one if you think kissing is safe if one of the two individuals has the virus.

I am not a expert, but I'm not sure one way or the other if herd immunity would work in the US like the current positive results of Sweden.

The entire country of Sweden is almost half the population of NY City.

NYC was screwed either way I think. Particularly with the nursing home mismanagement, which Sweden actually had similar problems. The panic and ignorance early on in NYC played a key role. People feared going to the hospital because they didn't know any better. They were reading the news.

But yeah, the idea of herd immunity in the USA is such a long term and abstract thing. If you think of COVID as water, Sweden is like filling up a pool, while the USA is like a wide canyon with varying degrees of depth. Not the best analogy, but it highlights the oddity of a country of nearly 4 million square miles having some kind of continuity when it comes to the spread of a virus.

It's a funny thought to think that all of these countries have differences that make it difficult for them all to have one option that would work best for any of them, yet people all over seem to think that the solution is a one size fits all with regards to this dying pandemic.
