Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

Stay at home beginning at 5 tomorrow here in LA to all non essentials. Only 3 confirmed cases in the Parish I live but over 800 statewide.

Really worry about my wife who suffers from asthma and my dad who just started chemo about 2 weeks ago for b cell lymphoma.
Really tests my faith with the stuff my dad's gone through and now this. He was diagnosed with multiple myeloma back in 2002 and came down with west nile virus while undergoing treatment for the myeloma and lost most of the strength in his legs as a result. He keeps right on chugging along and has been super positive even with everything that's going on now.

I'm trying to channel that positivity but definitely some uncertain times. Be safe everyone.

Yeah that ain't happening, obviously. And let's face it, if these states really wanted to be strict about these lockdowns they could. A manageable number of people getting it and recovering and therefore becoming immune is the goal.

For anyone struggling to find paper towels, I went outside the box and purchased 2 ply c fold paper towels. Home Depot has them available online. They are prefect for all the hand washing and wiping down. That way you can ration your regular paper towels. Thought I would pass it along.

They started calling them in last week. My wife lost some employees due to them being called in. She said they were all concerned about going in because they know they will get the virus being in the hot zone.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

Starting tomorrow I was finally able to get my entire team to work from home. It's a challenge for us due to the nature of our job and not having laptops. We had about 1500 overnighted to us last week to get the process started.

I still have to go in for the time being and am on a two week rotation with the other managers. I don't anticipate that lasting past Friday at the latest at this point. The goal is to get everyone out of the office ASAP.

It's so weird seeing no one downtown on a work day. Even weirder having a hour commute turn into 10/15 tops.

My wife has been home since Monday. We only have one office so it's going to be challenging for however long this goes. We've decided the office will be reserved primarily for me (mainly just so we're away from each other during the day) but it will also be reserved as the "important call" room because of the dogs downstairs. Is going to be an interesting transition.

I've worked from home in the past but usually I would do it on throwaway days when I had no meetings, calls, or anything of substance to do. This is going to be a whole new challenge.

I just heard that the Treasury Secretary stated earlier this morning that we could be on lockdown for the next 10-12 weeks, until early June.

                    Of course, that isn't substantiated.

It makes sense. They won't even know if it's working on flattening the curve until they can start testing more which they can't do until they get more testing kits. If we all go back to business as usual too early the process starts all over again. Pretty much suckage all around on this one. [emoji53]

One of the sites they’re looking at here in NYC is the Jacob Javits center. It’s a massive building where all the big conventions are held (International Auto Show, Comic Con, etc).

Edit: Which might be needed because my GF works in the ER in a Bronx hospital and she said the hospital are going to be overloaded in about a week.

Checking in from our side of the apocalypse here in Northern Virginia. My wife's work (circuit court) has been reduced to three days per week with extended hours. Mine (fed gov) has me teleworking four days per week and going into our office one day because... reasons. Sigh.

I'm infuriated that so many are still not taking this as the gravely serious threat it is.

Many definitely aren't taking it as serious, but others seem to be in "forget it, I'll rather risk it over die of boredom at home" mode, which obviously sounds stupid.

I miss sports too, but I've found other things to do while staying indoors.

I've helped out other family members with grocery shopping, caught up on 90% of my DVR recordings, fixed my fridge water filter and other things, and I haven't even broken out my old game systems yet or started cleaning (although the latter, we all know how the "I'll get around to cleaning...once I get more time" story goes).

But seeing people nonchalantly just walking or standing near strangers in easily avoidable situations, large gatherings at parks(not one giant group, but everyone heading down to the lake here for a "normal" day at the park which includes walking on a narrow pathway and having kids on a dirty playground), just makes no sense.

I feel like the states that haven't gotten hit as hard yet still have the chance to get ahead of it and most of them are blowing it. Shut things down now and you can limit spread, take care of the cases you do have, and buy some time to increase testing capabilities and increase medical supplies so then when you do loosen the restrictions you have a chance to really identify people who get it and do things other than a massive longterm lockdown. And even if that fails, at least at by that time healthcare should have a chance to be better prepared.

Next big sports announcement comes from Canada.

Canada announces that they won't be sending athletes to the 2020 Summer Olympics. I think they're one of if not the first (big) country to announce this.

If the IOC does go through with the 2020 games (rather than defer it to 2021 which is what many want), this would be first games I believe since WW2 days where major countries boycott it.

No doubt there'll be more to follow. I wouldn't even be surprised if USA is one of (if not the) next to announce this.
