We got notice that non essential employees are working from home in two week shifts starting today.

They spent a lot of time yesterday testing our VPN network.

I believe this snuck up fast on them because this was really rushed and seemed to happen almost overnight.

(Of course I’m “essential” and most of my employees don’t even have laptops so working from home isn’t an option)

At least traffic into downtown will be light for awhile.

Yeah, wife is WFH indefinitely, and I know plans have been drawn up for here at work but not sure what the tipping point is to implement them.

Kinda feel like if you are waiting for a positive case you've kinda missed the boat on protecting everyone else.

The upside of all of the precautions is that traffic is amazing this week. If you have to come in/out of the office, might as well not be fighting traffic to do it.

Family member of a student at my University got a positive test. No in person classes until April 5th, everything moved online. They were starting to prepare for this because they are having a test tomorrow for all the faculty to use the online class system. I think this snuck up on them.

I know it's easy to say "if you're experiencing flu like symptoms, stay home". But for many, they need to work. Missing even a days pay could be the difference in if they have money for whatever essentials they need that month like rent or food or something else.

Nothing new, people always go to work when not 100% because they need the money and/or dont wanna "waste" sick days or get in trouble for missing time.

Based on what's going on around the world, I don't even get the "this is overhyped" argument anymore. Maybe as a healthy individual person your chances of dying may be overhyped, but the overall impact, this is bad.

Seems some inconsistency in what's being canceled and what isn't, but major steps should be taken.

NYC Half Marathon is cancelled and the International Auto Show has been postponed until the end of August. Waiting to see what they do with the St. Patrick’s Day parade next week.

MGM closing all it's buffets starting Sunday (why wait?) and will evaluate weekly.

                            Also this:

SOURCE: Delivery of temporary cell phone towers that were to be installed on the Vegas Strip for the NFL Draft in April has been cancelled.

This could mean they expect a much smaller crowd, or that the event is postponed.

There’s multiple aspects to it as far as the perception. Like you said, under 50, you’re probably going to be okay and shouldn’t be freaking out. But if you’re older or have health issues, I’d downright avoid gatherings.

That said, who wants to put themselves at risk of getting sick anyway, regardless if it’s life threatening or lesser? When I’m sick I’m knocked on my ***. I‘m not trying to put myself in harm’s way if I can avoid it to a reasonable degree. I’m not wearing a mask or stocking up like it’s the end of the world, but you won’t catch me out at sports events, parades, festivals, etc. Postponing or canceling events is the least we can do knowing what we know from what happened in a place like Italy. To me it’s just like, be smart, be mindful. Which I know is a real challenge for the general populace. [emoji849]

One thing I haven’t heard much about but is a concern for me is how is this affecting children... and the answer is that it’s largely not, which has been the case with other coronaviruses as well. If children were highly susceptible to this, that would be a major spread factor. Silver lining, I suppose.

It sounds like in places like China and South Korea the number of cases are plateauing as they’ve put measures in place. I think we’re a couple weeks behind them; our numbers will skyrocket for a while here in the US before they eventually hit a peak as people become aware and recognize the danger. Hopefully that’s the case. They’re still saying we’re going to get like 96M cases, half of those requiring hospitalization, and half a million deaths. Just... be safe, be smart, be unselfish. Hope for the best.
