People complain that that the models weren’t right, that they exaggerated the threat. You have to wonder if the models were taking human utter stupidity into account. Stuff like this gets us to 100K-500K deaths.

Doesn’t help when leadership spends their time trolling on twitter and fanning the flames

The way I look at it, we took unprecedented action to stop the spread of this virus - basically shut down the economy and public life - and we still went from 0 to ~40,000 confirmed deaths in less than two months. We're racking up Pearl Harbor-sized deaths (~2,500) in this country every day right now.

Doesn't seem like we overreacted at all. To the contrary, given that some states were tardy in locking down and others didn't lock down period, we under-reacted. If these GOP governors really do end the lockdowns in May, then we're probably going to have a second wave and some of these worst case scenarios posited earlier are arguably back in play.

I think people missed what Dr. Phil was talking about.

Essentially, we could reduce the speed limit for all roads to 5 mph to save people's lives. We don't do it though because we accept the negative risks that go along with it. Coronavirus is no different.

There becomes a point where we are going to be able to accept the risks that comes with reopening the economy. With new data coming in every day, I believe we are close to that point.

It should be done in phases and be allocated to the states to decide.

We're already passed the peak for this virus nationally. So that really doesn't mean anything anymore.

              EDIT:

"Dr" Phil should stick to what he does best. Portraying the role of a Dr on a television show with "actors" who follow a script.

                  And then there is this:

Good afternoon from the governor’s residence in Indianapolis, where a few hundred people are protesting the state’s coronavirus restrictions. They’re chanting: “Six feet away, we will not obey.”

Good thing the virus is a thing of the past and won't reappear with no more stats piling up.

Because this is such an inconvenience for people. What a disgrace.

                      EDIT:

That is the latest chart by the CDC. Do the math. Tell me why people under the age of 45 can't resume normal life?
Look at the number "2" next to 1-4 year olds and tell me we should rush back?

And I did the math, the numbers of deaths for those under 45 years old doesn't equal 0.

And just so you know, I'm under 45 (41 years old) and I have the virus and have been fighting it for weeks. While I'm likely not going to die from the virus, my life consists right now of me having horrible coughing spells, tightness in my chest, and I'm currently on oxygen.

I have a 4 year old son that has now saw his mom, his dad, his grandma, and his sister be in some way, hospitalized or sickened by this virus. His world was upside down, but thankfully is starting to return to normal. He's ****ing 4 and shouldn't have to experience something like this, especially when idiots want to rebel against authority because they don't feel threatened.

Go ahead and put that chart in my face and ask me that question again.

I don't understand why this virus gets special treatment, unless you are willing to shut down the economy until all deaths from all things are zero.

And that "2" is out of over 15 million.

Are you suggesting people under 45 never interact within a couple degrees of anyone over 45?

Also, just because mortality is low doesn't mean just giving the green light to everyone under 45 wouldn't overwhelm medical facilities.

We also know that the deaths by COVID are objectively under-reported, in part due to the still insufficient amount of testing. The only real reliably metric in communities is the overall mortality rate and rate of hospitalization.

I'm not saying that we go completely back to being three inches apart and breathing all over each other. I am suggesting that these age brackets should be able to resume normal life. Going to work, hanging out at the beach, driving down the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Okay? The age ranges that are most affected should stay home. People under 45 should be able to resume some type of normalcy with social distancing, masks, etc.
