Sounds like this is going to happen. Florida was looking to ban flights from the area. Someone who knew they had it, got on a plane and flew to Florida. They are checking everyone and he was flagged. He was sent to the hospital and failed the test. He said he thought he was better.

Good news on new testing being trialled. Some are even 15 minutes. That would be great to be able to quickly find out if you have it.

Somewhere someone is saying forcing people to stay inside and taking away their freedom to be exposed to disease is un-American and they won’t stand for it.

I'd like to comment on this but it's politics...

I'll say that there are extraordinary precedents being set, merited or not.

Governor of Ohio, Mike DeWine said today that the curve is flattening in Ohio. But we need to keep doing what we are doing. Best news I've heard in a while.

But we also now have 6 cases in my county. Only one hospitalized and they are in stable condition.

Wife and I went to Walmart today but I stayed in the care while we face timed each other. There was actually a lot of food. Almost the normal amount of meat. And believe it or not, they had toilet paper.

There were a lot of people there, but no one was hoarding. We were able to get everything we wanted.

Definitely. Politics aside, he has done a great job and many are looking at him as the example on how to handle this.

It is getting serious for people from NYC. Florida has a mandatory 14 day isolation, meaning staying by yourself not staying with someone else already in Florida. It's not a monitored isolation, but they are looking to arrest people if they don't follow it. Looks like Rhode Island is looking for cars with NY plates and sending them back out of the state.

We only have ~20 cases in my county and around 130 for the neighboring counties, including the city, so other than restuarants most things are open. There were way too many people outside today when I went and got lunch to go. It was like a normal Saturday. I'll go restock food on Monday or Tuesday morning so if it turns worse I'll have enough for a few weeks. Staying with fresher food right now and trying not to eat the non-perishable stock until it's needed.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

Can you get COVID-19 more than once?

The short answer: We don't know yet. It's not yet clear whether people can be reinfected by this coronavirus or how long immunity might last after infection.

Immunity after recovery from COVID-19 would be a boon in the global fight to rein in the virus. People who have recovered and gained immunity would be especially valuable as health-care workers. The spread of the virus would slow if there were fewer people. And antibodies from recovered people could help in developing a treatment for the disease.

As NPR's Nell Greenfieldboyce has reported, scientists are looking for clues about immunity and re-infection from other coronaviruses.

The severe coronaviruses SARS and MERS did produce antibodies in those who had had the virus. In the case of MERS, survivors generated an immune response to the virus that could be detected up to two years later. And the sicker the patient was, the more long-lasting their immune response.

But in the case of the four seasonal coronaviruses that are a cause of the common cold, they can sicken people over and over again. After infection with one of these viruses, antibodies are produced — but then the levels slowly decline, and people become susceptible again.

There are some indications that the new coronavirus, officially known as SARS-CoV-2, can spur immunity. New, not-yet-peer-reviewed research in rhesus macaques found that the new coronavirus does not cause reinfections.

"I think there's a very likely scenario where the virus comes through this year, and everyone gets some level of immunity to it, and if it comes back again, we will be protected from it," Matt Frieman, a coronavirus researcher at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, told NPR. "Either completely or if you do get reinfected later, a year from now, then you have much less disease."

"That is the hope," he adds. "But there is no way to know that."

Until we know more, don't get funny ideas.

It's just being reported that President Trump has issued a strong travel advisory to NY, CT and NJ.

I know Gov Cuomo earlier stated that quarantining was illegal and said he would be against it. He thought the markets would really tank if that happened.

My area is getting the 45 min tests from Abbott Labs. I would love to get myself and parents tested, but won't take up the tests that people may need since we don't have any overt signs other than normal everyday allergies. Hopefully these tests work great because it could enable certain businesses to open back up if they can produce enough tests to everyone.

I understand the need to stay home but to go to the extreme that some people have wanted is puzzling considering you still have to go to the store and at this point it’s probably where you’re going to get the virus.

I'm on the Parks and Recreation board in my local town in Ohio (around 4,000+ people). And no, it's nothing like the TV show - I've inherited a mess since coming on 4 months ago... LOL.

But here's what I don't get: I asked about a FAMILY (ie. father (mostly) or mother and kids - a VERY SMALL number - and no games, just shooting. There are two back-to-back courts. I live one block away. I'd like to JUST SHOOT BASKETS with my 2-3 kids (I have 3 but one is out of state with a friend). The police said that NO, we canNOT do this. But here's what's funny: we're not really near each other. We're a family. We're not going to play a game. We're not going to be getting all sweaty and rubbing all over each other. It's a small town. We can keep this "policed" so nothing happens (outside of idiot druggies and overzealous cops who pull you over for doing 37 in a 35 it's pretty quiet). We could, at most, have around 16 people on those 4 rims, totally well distanced apart. But no - can't do this.

However, I can go to the grocery store EVERY DAY and MANY TIMES A DAY and cram myself around literally a couple / three hundred people - and we're all totally cool with this. Yeah...good luck with that curve.

It will be impossible to prevent continued spread due to essential businesses like the grocery store and even hospitals, but you can prevent non-essential gatherings to slow down the spread. It sucks and some things may seem incredibly small, but if you multiply those small things times the entire population of the US then your risk factor goes through the roof. That's why we need parks and things like that to be shut down. Otherwise you have those people packing into the grocery store every day AND continuing on to various other gatherings.

People have to eat, they can't go 14+ days without food in the pantry, and that's why it is an acceptable risk to keep those facilities open whereas having a basketball court or something like that open, encourages non-essential gatherings.

It all depends. If you are a family living in a home, 6ft doesn't matter as there is no realistic way to isolate. It's even harder with kids. So there is no issue with a family being outside and not being 6ft away.

The issue is what if other kids want to join in? People don't know who families are and aren't. It's too hard to police that. So instead of relying on people to use their brains, we have to overreact and ban everything to keep people safe because otherwise nature would have eliminated them already.
