I don't think it's isolated to just the younger posters. I think a lot of posters here the enjoy sense of community OS has, which the EE forum was a big part of. Personally I'm 25, have never seen myspace and didn't grow up with this virtual world that kids today have, but I still greatly enjoy the community here.

My biggest concern is that the Pro/College Sports forums will be the next to go.
Many of them have discussions that get more heated than anything in the EE forum and aren't technically about "Sports Gaming."

Technically, yes. From the first post:

I'm well aware that this won't be a poplular decision, however, as Operation Sports continues to grow, so do the problems associated with the EE forum. The majority of the topics that are deemed questionable ( race, religion, politics, drugs, etc.), all originate in the EE forum.
The problem with the EE forums was that too many topics were "deemed questionable." And that's the reason for shutting it down? I can understand if it was too much work to moderate, but then again, I'm not exactly sure why every single sub-forum must be moderated. Keeping the Madden forum about Madden is great, and I appreciate all the work that mods do to keep it straight.

But having an EE forum gives people a place to talk about stuff that doesn't fit into a category. Remember Hurricane Katrina? If we didn't have an EE forum, where would people have discussed that? The college football forums? It's certainly something I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on, but it doesn't really fit anywhere. And now there is nowhere for the posters on this board to talk about it. If that's the direction the administrators want to take, that is fine... but it's hard to maintain a family-like atmosphere if you are only permitted to discuss things which fit under a predetermined category.

I respect the call Sully made.

However that doesnt mean that I agree with it. I feel i got more out of the EE forum than any other forum here at OS, and it will be truely missed.

I do have one question. Was EE removed because of people complaining about locking threads? if so, that is truely a travesty, and those people complaining should be ashamed of themselves.

While us 30 and 40 something year olds grew up in the television generation, we still remember times without the internet. The 18 and below age group have grown up in a virtual world. Everything from IMing friends to seeing news and entertainment on streaming video. Virtual friends are just as much as "real live people" to them as our interpretation of "real liive people" are. That is why they feel the OS Community thrived on the EE forum. It's because that's where their friends were when they didn't want to talk solely about sports.

I'm willing to bet that the group taking this removal the hardest is the younger age group who feel like a medium to "hang out" with their friends is being taken from them.

I can understand why the EE forum was removed, but I'm also happy that there was an Entertainment Forum created to allow people to talk about music, movies, and such.
I agree with some of what you have to say. Kids are connected with the world more nowadays through the internet, rather than through other means of communication or news.

However... I don't think people are upset that the EE forums are being taken away because their "friends" are being taken away... or their "after-school hangout" is being taken away. I, personally, haven't made a single friend from the Everything Else forum. I don't rely on it as a source of social networking... and I don't think any (or many) of the other members here do either.

I just thought it was a fun place to look at Dookie's hilarious videos, asianflow's fruity pop culture commentary, and random news stories about deer jumping off of highrises or people's thoughts on certain events occurring in the world. It wasn't a source of news for me, just an off-topic section of the boards where I get a little something else other than sports and virtual reality talk.

I'm not speaking for everyone else... I'm just a college aged "young man" telling it how I see it.
I also don't want any of you old farts (jk) mis-interpreting why some of us liked the EE forum. I went there because I liked it, nothing more, nothing less. Don't make it out to be a spiritual gathering place or a "friend maker zone" for the younger generation.

I dont think that EE was removed because people questioned the locking of threads, it was removed because of the way they did. The way some posters called the mods 'facists' and 'power hungry' did not help the situation. And I am in complete aw at the fact that some people are complaning and acting like complete babies.

Here's a hint to those of you who are complaining, 1) go outside, 2)get some real friends, 3) talk to them about it.

I'm not a huge poster here but I enjoyed the EE forum for a few reasons. The main one is that OS as a whole has a higher average age than a lot of the other forums out there so it was nice to not always get such a yound viewpoint on everything. Playing online games was always a little more interesting when you knew a little more about the person you were playing besides their viewpoints on secondary AI in various games. OS will still defnitely be a great resource, but I can't help but feel that the community aspect of the site will be hurt.

Political/religious/sexual discussion was banned a long time ago. It doesn't belong at OS, and never has.

Should a poster be banned from OS - losing access to Sports discussion, rosters, sliders, etc. (all the things the site is for) - because they can't debate politics or race with any class or respect? Why not let OS be for sports gaming fans - where we can discuss sports and gaming - and save the invective for elsewhere?

I already pointed that out, but much like every other reply I've made in the last few pages, it's went ignored.

I'm 34 and, I'll admit, the EE was fun to read and browse through for limited entertainment value. But it was by no means the backbone that holds this community together.

The 20 something group is (for lack of a better term) the bastard children of the pre/post internet era. You were teen/pre-teen with the launch of the internet as we know it today. Some took to it more than others.

The hard part for OS will be a few years from now. The XBox 360 (and future next gen consoles I'm assuming) are pushing this virtual world more and more upon us. We can now talk to our virtual friends while watching a DVD and talk to them as if we were watching it with them.

                                That's a very ignorant statement.
