(A FAC R5) 1-1 draw v Stoke (Ben Arfa (p) 62') (Diouf 22')
Tough tie away at Stoke for us, which got tougher when Stoke took the lead through a great through ball from Arnautovic which split my defence and allowed Diouf to latch on and score. Stoke were resilient after that, holding on well until Ben Arfa used his trickery to shimmy through the Stoke back line with Robert Huth catching his foot and sending my Frenchman to the deck. Ben Arfa dusted himself down and coolly slotted the penalty home. We almost nicked in front 2 minutes later when Sissoko slammed a shot off the crossbar. Stoke had their own chance to steal it at the very end too, Moses parting my defence and firing the ball off the near post, Williamson scrambling to clear just as the final whistle went. A draw helps no-one as an already busy fixture period is crammed with a replay in 10 days time.
26. (H) 0-0 draw v Man United (Di Maria s/o)
We had to work hard for this point, Manchester opened us up on a lot of occasions, thankfully we had Krul protecting the goal with his life. Man United stepped off the gas after the 70 minute mark when Di Maria was sent off for a second yellow card. This allowed us a couple of bursts forward but we rarely troubled them in all honesty with one eye focused on the FA Cup, any point in the league is important for us and sustains our push towards the European places.
27. (H) 1-0 win v Aston Villa (Hernandez 84')
Villa arrived at St James' Park as a desperate team, constantly switching places with Swansea in the battle for safety. So they came firing on all cylinders, trying to get goals from anywhere and everywhere. On another day, they could've easily won 5-0 in all honesty. But we showed the killer instinct I've instilled in my side, Abel Hernandez coming on as a sub, using his explosive pace to destroy the Villa backline and beat Guzan with a cheeky chip giving us all 3 points.
(H FAC R5 Replay) 3-1 win v Stoke (Cabella 9', Cisse 88', 90+1') (Diouf 31')
An amazing night at this great club, our fans are finally starting to believe this is our year to break the trophy drought. We took an early lead from a beautifully dispatched free kick from Cabella, beating the wall and the keeper to the near post with a pearler. Diouf took advantage of some lackadaisical defending to equalise in the first half which set the scene for a very tight second half. Neither side wanted to slip up but both sides also wanted the win badly. Stoke finally committed the deadly error, a sloppy first touch allowing Tiote to steal the ball, laying off to Janmaat who crossed in, the cross was cleared but then headed back in the box by Ameobi, which Cisse volleyed, Begovic parried into the waiting foot of Tiote who smashed it at the keeper, which gave Cisse the moment he needed to steal in late on and send St James' Park into overdrive. Fans sensing that the job was done and it was all confirmed in injury time, Cisse taking advantage of a weary defence to coolly roll the ball in at Begovic's near post.
Here's Cisse's first goal which put us in front late on.

A huge quarterfinal matchup in the Capital One Cup against Arsenal, along with a league match against them, and we round out the episode with a fixture against Crystal Palace. A big cup run could be instrumental for my future with West Brom considering my crazy Champions League qualification expectations.Comment

Re: *The FIFA 15 Manager Mode Thread*
23. (H) 1-3 loss vs Chelsea (Bony 45') (Diego Costa 17' 26', Schurrle 79')
A good showing from us despite what the scoreline says. We once again found Diego Costa hard to handle and he created his first too goals from nothing, blasting both in from outside the penalty box. We sprung into action after this though and Bony dispossessed Terry and Cahill to run clear on goal, his initial shot being saved but he coolly chipped the ball into the net to get us back in the game. It was all us after that and Britton's shot in the 57th minute was just about turned away for a corner and from the corner, Niel Taylor almost managed to bend the ball into the far corner from just outside the area but Handanovic was once again there to deny us the equaliser. Dyer also came close after a pass from Bony left him all alone and running through on goal but the shot was blocked by Felipe Luis. Unfortunately as we pushed more and more bodies forward Chelsea were able to exploit this and Schurrle sealed to win fro Chelsea in the 79th minute with a slick finish past Fabianski. All in all a good performance from the lads (especially Wanyama who did well to keep Chelsea under control on his debut) and the scoreline flattered Chelsea as we could have had 2 or 3 more if it wasn't for Handanovic basically keeping them in the game.
24. (H) 2-2 draw vs West Ham (Sigurosson 18' 60') (Carroll 50', Varate 88')
I'm really starting to lose hope with this team as we get yet another disappointing draw against a team we should have beaten. Things started out well with Sigurosson looking lively and we almost took the lead within the first 5 minutes with the Icelander putting his shot just wide of the post. He did put us ahead in the 18th minute though with a powerful shot past Adrian. He almost doubled his (and our) tally a few minutes later as he ran through on goal but finessed the shot just wide. West Ham did start to creep forward and we were once again guilty of standing off as Carroll blazed forward and equalised for the hammers not long after the restart. We did put ourselves back in the lead 10 minutes later with Sigurosson's shot taking a deflection off Cresswell to beat Adrian. We tried desperately to see out the game, bringing on Wanyama and switching the formation to a more defensively minded one but West Ham managed to score the equaliser late on with Zarate, the goal being almost a carbon copy of their first goal. Poor defending and poor composure for us at the back which has lead to yet more dropped points.
25. (A F.A cup) 1-4 win vs Blackburn Rovers (Gestede 52' s/o 60') (Emnes 6', Sung-yeung 45', Donnelly 80' 82')
A strong showing from our second team to see off our lower league opposition. The hosts almost took a shock lead early on as a free kick was floated into the box and Rhodes's acrobatic shot wrong-footed Schmiechel and came off the inside of the post. From this we broke forward and as Gomis was fouled the referee played advantage as Routledge threaded the ball through to Emnes who ran through on goal and slotted the ball calmly past the onrushing keeper to give us an early lead. We doubled our advantage just before half time as Ki Sung-yueng scored a fabulous volley. Blackburn gave themselves a route back into the game in the 52nd minute as a cross from Marshall was met by an acrobatic header from Gestede to give the hosts a glimmer of hope. This hope was dashed not long after as the goal scorer Gestede was sent off for a controversial second booking. The striker appeared to be pulled down in the penalty area but as he went down he struck out with his legs and brought down Amat for which he received his marching orders, a decision even I thought was unfair. This swung the game massively in out favour and they could barely contain us as we surged forward. Donnelly (who was brought on for Gomis in the second half) scored his first goal of the season to put us two ahead in the 80th minute. Straight from kick-off Blackburn gave the ball away and as the ball was rolled past the defenders Robinson rushed off his line to collect but hesitated and this allowed Donnelly to rush onto the through ball and chip it over the unsuspecting keeper to put the result beyond reasonable doubt. We progress to the round of 16 where we will face Sheffield Wednesday.
26. (H) 2-1 win vs Sunderland (Bony 6', Dyer 43') (Larsson 9')
Our third consecutive home game in the BPL finally gave us a much deserved and hard fought for win at a snowy Liberty Stadium. We had most of the early pressure and Bony almost put us ahead early on but his shot curled just wide of the post. He did score almost immediately after, shooting from a similar position but this time he was able to bend it into the far corner. Sunderland we quick to respond and Larsson ran through and forced Schmeichel into a good save but williams got in his way and Larsson was able to blast home the rebound. We had to wait a while for another chance, with Routledge's shot going over the bar. From the goal-kick it was headed onto the Sunderland player who was tackled powerfully by Sung-yueng who started off the counter attack with an over-the-top ball to Routledge to start a 3 on 2 attack. He controlled the ball well and sent a through ball to Dyer who was unmarked and all alone and he was able to storm into the box and curl the ball past Pantmillion to restore out lead. We almost got a third just after half time as a back-pass was intercepted by Routledge but his first time shot was dealt with easily by Pantmillion. Sunderland had there chances to get an equaliser, Larsson headed a free header over the bar and Johnson missed from close range but we defended well and held on to a vital 3 points.
27. (A) 0-1 win vs West Brom (Bony pen 31')
A solid performance from the lads. We started off the game with some good possession and it wasn't until the 17th minute that the first shot was taken, Sigurosson hitting his shot wide. We continued to keep hold of the ball, frustrating West Brom as they just couldn't get a hold of the ball. This frustration culminated in a badly timed tackle from Yacob on Canas which lead to the referee awarding us a free kick. Sigurosson stood over it but unselfishly passed the ball under the wall to Bony, who was taken out in the penalty area by a rash tackle from Brunt, forcing the referee to award us a penalty. Bony stepped up to the spot and confidently dispatched the penalty blasting it into the far corner giving Foster no chance even though he went the right way. West Brom were really poor going forward and they didn't even have a shot until the hour mark when Varela's chip was knocked away by Schmeichel. This lead to some intense pressure by West Brom as they looked for an equaliser forcing Schmeichel to pull off several impressive saves from Gardner and Ideye. We almost sealed the win late on as Dyer ran through free on goal, weaving through the penalty area and having his side-footed curler pushed away by Foster. We managed to see out the game with comfortable ease though and kept out first clean sheet in just over 2 months.Last edited by wassboss; 12-19-2014, 05:12 PM.Comment

Last post = #618
A tricky period for Newcastle now as we play the defending champions and current league leaders twice in a row in league and cup action, as well as facing two other rivals for the European places...then there's the small matter of the second Tyne-Wear derby of the season sandwiched in there.
28. (A) 3-2 loss v Man City (Hernandez 45+1', 62') (Toure 3', Pogba 40', Aguero 43')
We had barely had our Wheaties before City took a brisk lead, Toure slamming a strike off the post and in, leaving Krul in disbelief. The rest of the first half was a tough slog for us, City applying pressure constantly which worked for them as they went from 1-0 to 3-0 in the space of 3 minutes, Aguero unselfishly setting up Pogba to tap in from close range when Aguero could've scored himself. The favour was returned 3 minutes later as Pogba chipped over the defence for Aguero to run on to and roll past Krul. We managed to grab a lifeline before half time, Hernandez heading in from a corner to give us a glimmer of hope for the second half. We had a lot more of the ball and played with confidence after half time, Hernandez getting his and our second goal with a low drive past Caballero in the City goal. We spent the rest of the game trying to grasp an equaliser, but City held firm, leaving us with only long range efforts, Tiote coming closest, smacking a shot against the post which then landed kindly for the keeper to smother. Tough loss, hopefully this doesn't impact our morale going into the cup match v the same opposition.
(H FAC QF) 3-2 win v Man City (Obertan 11', 28', Cisse 89') (Dzeko 49, Aguero 81')
An amazing game, just as tense as the league game 3 days earlier but thankfully a different outcome. I decided to rest Ben Arfa and use Obertan in his place to hopefully cause havoc with his pace and he did that and a whole lot more for us, drifting in from the wing to fire in at the near post. He doubled our lead soon after, slowing the game down on the edge of the box, before faking a shot to destroy Kompany and then blasting in from the edge. City looked shellshocked yet determined to get into the game. After half time, Dzeko headed in from a corner to make St James' Park a nervy place for the rest of the match. City sensed this and went in search of the equaliser, we tried to soak up the pressure until they brought Aguero on, he made an instant impact, scoring with his first touch, blasting high into the roof of the net, completely silencing the home fans. City looked the more likely to win but a quick counter attack allowed Obertan to waltz through, threading the ball to Cisse who held his nerve to chip the on-rushing keeper, causing the crowd to go ballistic, knowing that a trip to Wembley was on! A brilliant day to be manager of this amazing club.
FA Cup Semi Final draw:
Norwich City v Newcastle United
Chelsea v Manchester United
29. (H) 3-2 win v Arsenal (Obertan 7', 90+5, de Jong 60') (Giroud 72', Gibbs 81')
Riding the wave of momentum from the cup QF win, we took the game to Arsenal immediately, Obertan showing why I rewarded him with a first PL start of the season after his cup heroics, slotting in at the near post early on for the second game running, blitzing Arsenal's defence. The rest of the half went without anything of note. We started the second half on the back foot yet found ourselves 2-0 up on 60 minutes as Siem de Jong latched on to a through ball from Aarons, hammering past Szceszny. The two goal lead only lasted 12 minutes as Giroud rose highest in the box to power a header past Krul. Arsenal then equalised in grand fashion, Krul parrying a shot from Giroud straight into the path of Gibbs who unleashed a devilish volley from the edge of the box. Utterly dejected with the turn of events, I took a gamble and sent the team forward, urging them to get this win for the fans. Obertan scored the winner for us, reacting quickest to a fumble from the keeper after he tried to save from Cisse.
30. (A) 2-1 win v Sunderland (Sissoko 61', Gouffran 75') (Johnson 53', van Aanholt s/o)
Even though we had "more important" games on paper...this was the one that I and all Newcastle fans wanted to win. After the disappointing draw at SJP, I knew that victory was the only thing we could go back home with. The first half was very quiet, both sides not willing to push much for fear of the counter attack, Sunderland were particularly cagey as they are currently embroiled in a relegation battle. Sunderland then took the lead in the second half, Adam Johnson volleying in from 6 yards after a Larsson cross. I urged my lads forward to try and equalise quickly, which we did when Sissoko found himself in open space and was able to beat Mannone with ease before tapping into the open net. Patrick van Aanholt was then sent off for the hosts after a dismal challenge which injured Sissoko, thankfully not too serious though. The Stadium of Light was then silenced as Yoan Gouffran wrote his name in Derby Day folklore, beating Bridcutt, Brown and O'Shea before rolling the ball around Mannone in one of the all time great Tyne-Wear derby goals. Our fans in the South Stand were rocking, limbs flying everywhere in amazing scenes. My proudest day as manager so far.
31. (A) 3-1 win v Liverpool (Sissoko 1', Hernandez 41', de Jong (p) 64') (Lallana 90+3')
We came to Anfield with revenge on our minds after the 6-0 drubbing we received when they came to SJP. We couldn't have started any better, some beautiful passing from kick off, leading to Sissoko firing in after 49 seconds. We doubled the lead before half time, Hernandez getting on the scoresheet after a 1-2 pass with de Jong tore apart the defence allowing the easy finish past Mignolet. Liverpool never seemed to get out of second gear thanks to our defence being in amazing form. It was 3-0 after 64 minutes, former Magpie Jose Enrique tripping Hernandez in the box, giving Siem de Jong the chance to put the game beyond doubt, he fired hard and high into the roof of the net, no keeper was saving that today and no team was stopping us today either. We gave up the clean sheet in injury time, complacency in our defence allowed Lallana in to reduce the embarrassment for Liverpool but it was a mere consolation for them as the whistle blew straight after we kicked off again. Brilliant win.
PL Top 10 (games played/points in parentheses)
1. Man City (32/66)
2. Chelsea (31/61)
3. Arsenal (32/57)
4. Man Utd (32/56)

7. Everton (30/47)
8. Spurs (30/46)
9. West Brom (32/46)
10. Stoke (32/43)
Well as the table shows, we have a game in hand over Arsenal and Man United so if we win every game we have for the rest of the league season then we will finish no lower than third and will qualify for Champions League football.

Re: *The FIFA 15 Manager Mode Thread*
Carrying straight on...
(FAC SF Wembley) 1-0 win v Norwich (Hernandez 90+2)
Full credit to Norwich who fought us tooth and nail, the game came down to one mistake by former Newcastle defender Bassong who slipped, allowing Hernandez in to shoot past Ruddy right at the end and fire us into the final where we'll be up against Chelsea. Hopefully our exertions here after 5 games in 14 days won't affect us too much in upcoming games as we continue a hectic pace of fixtures.
32. (H) 2-2 draw v Swansea (Cabella 24', Ameobi 85') (Bony 10', 62')
Not a good result to be honest as we need to keep up the pressure on the teams above us. Bony headed Swansea into a lead before Cabella jinked through the defence and slotted home to equalise. The second half was a carbon copy as Bony headed in again, exploiting the tired defenders. Thankfully we rescued a point late on as Sammy Ameobi sprinted in, tapping in from close range.
33. (A) 2-1 loss v Everton (Hernandez 23') (Osman 15', Naismith 73')
A frustrating performance for us, starting to show an inability to finish chances in pressure situations. Everton took an early lead via a Leon Osman header. We did manage a relatively quick equaliser with a slice of good fortune, Hernandez' shot going in after a deflection from Phil Jagielka. We just couldn't take our chances after that and it cost us ultimately when Naismith drifted inward and unleashed a fierce effort into the top corner.
34. (A) 0-0 draw v Leicester
Awful performance again, both Cisse and Hernandez missing multiple chances. Thankfully we were pretty solid defensively so scraped a point in this one.
35. (H) 1-1 draw v Spurs (Sissoko 55') (Eriksen 17')
Four matches without a win now has practically ruined our push for the European places. Eriksen put Spurs ahead with a 25 yard free kick, curling the ball into the top right corner. A Moussa Sissoko header spared our blushes thankfully and prevents a defeat, keeping us in touch with Spurs who are currently in the top four.
36. (H) 3-0 win v West Brom (Cabella 30', 36', 85')
Wow, what a statement made by us, Cabella especially. We had heard that Spurs and Man United were both losing after 20 minutes in their games, so I passed the message to the players and it gave us an impetus we haven't had in a fair few games. First goal was a low free kick, shooting under the jumping wall, catching out Foster in the WBA goal. Second goal was a trademark Cabella goal dribbling through the center backs and tucking the ball in to the left of the keeper. The hat trick was complete five minutes before the end, Cabella volleying in a rebound after Cisse had a shot blocked by the keeper.
37. (A) 2-1 win v QPR (Cabella 39', Riviere 76') (Vargas 6', Suk Young s/o)
A nervy start for us saw us fall behind as Vargas beat the offside trap and beat Krul at his far post with a curling effort. QPR were more than happy to sit back and hold the one goal lead, but thankfully Cabella played some slick 1-2 passes with Ben Arfa and tapped home from 6 yards. Yun Suk Young was sent off in the 70th minute for a second yellow card, this left gaps in QPR which we exploited perfectly, Riviere moving around brilliantly, drawing defenders out and then bursting away to head home a Janmaat cross.
38. (H) 2-1 loss v West Ham (Cisse 36') (Carroll (p) 32', 81')
Results went our way except for our own... With Arsenal, Spurs and Man United all losing their games, a win would have taken us to 3rd and a Champions League place. However, we struggled to get into a rhythm, with the players having one eye on the cup final, I half expected this. We gave away a silly penalty after the half hour mark, Coloccini tripping Carroll, who then scored the penalty to put West Ham ahead. Four minutes later we restored parity, Cisse heading in from a Gouffran corner. I sent the team forward for the second half, searching for the winner that would take us to the CL, but going forward ultimately cost us as Jarvis caught us out with his pace, holding the ball up too before firing a cross in for Carroll to bury in the top right corner, leaving us with a 6th place finish.
FA Cup Final @ Wembley Stadium
Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea (Cisse (p) 45+1')
We did it!! It was a ridiculously tough game but we pulled it off and won the 2014/15 FA Cup!! The big hero of the day was Tim Krul, pulling off so many amazing saves, keeping Chelsea out for the majority of the first half before a rare foray forward allowed us to strike, Sissoko hurtling into the box before being hauled down by Zouma, the referee Martin Atkinson pointed straight to the spot and Cisse stepped up to fire to Petr Cech's left. The second half was tough for us, defending for the whole half as Chelsea just heaped pressure on us. Krul was our savior though, save after save in a half that felt like an eternity. Finally in injury time, we managed to get the ball and drifted to the corners, holding the onslaught at bay and when the whistle blew, 46 years of hurt were finally put to rest!! Fans and players all going wild celebrating what some deemed an impossible task at the start of the cup campaign. Captain Fabricio Coloccini raised the trophy, eliciting the biggest roar I've heard from our fans, that win was for them as much as it was for myself and the team.

Re: *The FIFA 15 Manager Mode Thread*
Morning Guys!
Well, the season has drawn to an end with some ups and downs for me and the team here at Vallodolid.
After my post the other day, Ryan Gaul broke his ankle and was out for 3 months (rest of the season!), Andrew Robertson broke his foot, rest of the season, and my centre half Jedvaj (think thats right, young guy from Roma) out for the rest of the season. Squad was depleted enough as it is due to my own preference of a smaller squad and preparing to rebuild in the summer.
So, was top of the league in the last post, after that though, form was all over the place, injuries to key players and general under performing meant i lost a few more games than i'd have liked to, in the last 6 games, noteable results were a 1-1 draw away to Atheltico Madrid, a 2-0 Away win at Real Madrid, meaning i'd beat them home and away this season, and a 3-1 loss at the nou camp to barcelona.
Overall, i finished 3rd, qualified for the champions league in what was an unbelivable season for me and my squad.
Thankfully, the board noticed this and have given me £18.5m to spend in the summer. need to get rid of some of the dead wood and strengthen in a few areas.
Really excited for the season ahead, but moreso, the upcoming transfer window where i can flex a small amount of muscle and try and get in a few players.
Key Transfer targets - Viktor Fischer, need a new winger as Finbogasson proved his worth up top, much to the dismay of Berahino, competition for places though!
Also feeling i'll need a new defensive mid as Beckerman can't last forever, same with a new Right back as hutton will be 32 this season (i think)
any suggestions on either of those positions, or wingers as well? Cheap ish, young and good potential?
any help is appreciated!
Mon the Vallodolid!Comment
