Re: *The FIFA 15 Manager Mode Thread*

*Back after a month long hiatus getting everything ready in preparation for my Mrs giving birth to our first born, finished up the season though, so will give the last few month by month updates to the year in the next day or so!*

Newcastle United 2015/16 Season: February 2016

Currently 2nd in the league and still in the Europa League and FA Cup, we push on trying to claim all three in what would go down as a historic season!

    (FAC R4 R H) 2-0 win v Cardiff City (Cabella 8', Hernandez 67')

Finally into the 5th Round of the FA Cup after a rather easy replay in which we knocked the wind out of Cardiff early on with a 30 yard free kick from Cabella. The win was wrapped up midway through the second half as Hernandez chipped the ball over David Marshall. The only downside was seeing Paulo Dybala come off with a calf injury early in the game, he'll be out for 6 weeks.

The 5th Round draw gave us a home tie v Arsenal which shall be a tough fixture in our busy season.

    24. (A) 3-2 loss v Liverpool (Hernandez 14', Montero 25') (Balotelli 45+1', Moreno 57', Lucas 90+4')

A heartbreaking defeat, which we should have avoided, 2-0 up after 25 minutes, we were coasting. Balotelli gave Liverpool a glimmer going into half time and in the second half, they were rejuvenated, firing on all cylinders, Moreno equalising with a header. Moreno then played provider, crossing in for Lucas Leiva to tap in with the last touch of the game.

    25. (H) 1-1 draw v West Brom (Cabella 84') (Dorrans 19')

Another frustrating game for us here, West Brom scoring within 20 minutes and then defending for the rest of the game, content with their 1-0 lead. We pressed constantly, trying to force a way through. West Brom finally made an error, tripping Montero on the edge of the box, allowing Cabella to dispatch a picture perfect free kick. But we could only manage a draw in a game which we really should've been looking to win comfortably.

    26. (H) 3-0 win v Swansea City (Hernandez 9', 45+1', Carvalho 40') (Bony missed pen 53', missed pen 65', Taylor s/o 89')

Crazy game at SJP which saw us race into a 3-0 lead by half time, Hernandez getting two goals both on the counter, either side of Carvalho scoring with a sublime low shot after a perfect through ball from our talisman Cabella. The second half was all Swansea, peppering the goal with shots but Krul was in inspiring form on the day. Saving not one, but two penalties from Wilfried Bony. The miserable day for Swansea was worsened when Neil Taylor was sent off for bringing down Hernandez as he looked to get a hat trick.

    (EL R of 32 1st leg A) 2-0 win v Besiktas JK (Cabella 35', 43')

Very pleased with a well fought win here in a hostile atmosphere. Cabella once again was the star of the show, with two goals for us, both headers from corners. Former Magpie Demba Ba almost scored before half time, his first time shot cannoned off the post. The second half saw us defend as the home side pushed on at us. Krul saved our skin many times denying Ba and Ozyakup after some fine play between them. We almost took a 3 goal advantage back to SJP but Hernandez fluffed his shot and put it slightly wide of the goal.

    (FAC R5 H) 2-1 loss v Arsenal (Hernandez 25') (Diaby 73', Welbeck 90+5')

Our defence of the FA Cup ended today after a last gasp defeat to the Gunners in a game we dominated throughout. Hernandez chipped over Ospina to give us a lead. We should have made it 2-0 shortly after, but Montero missed an open goal from 3 yards out, astounding everyone in the ground. Arsenal had their first real attack in the second half, Krul denying Giroud from close range, but could only parry the ball out 20 yards to the on-rushing Diaby who smashed in a volley, tying the game. Arsenal sensed they could get a winner so sent on Danny Welbeck to use his pace against us and it paid off. My tired defence lapsed in concentration, allowing Welbeck in to fire from close range in the last seconds of injury time, sending us crashing out of the cup.

    (EL R of 32 2nd leg H) 1-0 win v Besiktas JK (Aubameyang (p) 11')

We safely got through to the last 16 of the Europa League, an early penalty giving us a 3 goal berth which never looked like being threatened. A downside from this game was seeing my back up striker Hernandez get injured, so Papiss Cisse came on and looks set for a run of games in the starting XI as Hernandez will miss the next 3 weeks.

The last 16 draw gave us Real Sociedad of Spain, the 1st leg being played away.

    27. (A) 1-0 loss v Manchester City (Fernandinho 57')

We dropped down to third in the table after this loss to Man City, who now go second. We hit the post twice in the game and should've scored late on, Cisse missing a glorious chance to head in, instead opting for a bicycle kick which he missed completely. Fernandinho gave City the points after tapping in from a yard out after Krul spilled a Toure shot.

I'm really struggling getting a new CM off the ground. My previous one I ended up taking over FC Sion...which had a financial takeover before I got there. €130 million per year I pretty much destroyed the Swiss Super League.

Anyway, I was thinking of doing a CM Dynasty write up, but I have no idea who I'd want to be.

Perhaps a 2. Bundesliga team? Or maybe Notts County would be cool....I'm just kind of stuck. If there is any team that you all would like to follow let me know.

            MLS: Portland Timbers
            EPL: Liverpool FC

Give Portsmouth a shot in English League 2. A few years back they were in the PL, won the FA Cup and even played in Europe in the 08/09 season...fast forward to now and they're languishing in League 2 so trying to restore them to top flight status would be a heck of a Dynasty.

Re: *The FIFA 15 Manager Mode Thread*

I figure I might as well just post what Ive been up to this year:

I'm currently in Year 4 with Newcastle, 1st place after 8 games. Also in Champions League.

                  Previous Years:

Season 1: 6th place EPL, no champs league. No cups won.
Season 2: 1st place EPL, europa league semis (lose to Manchester City), no cups won.
Season 3: 2nd place EPL (damn Chelsea), eliminate Real Madrid in R16 of Champs, but lose in quarters to FC Schalke. No cups won. (FA cup semi loss to Spurs hurts here).
                  Season 4: (current

As you can see, I've done well, but I also basically only have one trophy to my name.

I've fielded a really nice team though:

ST: Simone Zasa (80, 27 years old) - Great buy from Italy. More of a poacher. Bought him before the 2nd Season and he scored 26 goals for me in the EPL alone. Basically the MVP of the Champ team. However, Season 3 he was off and on hurt and only managed 14 goals across all comps, so this will be a big year for him. So far I think he has 3 or 4.

LW: Xherdan Shaqiri (82, 24) - Great buy. You've probably heard of him - hes damn good in this game.
RM: Moussa Sissoko (79, 28) - Way better than his rating. Plays aggressive, and I like his scoring ability.
LM: Remy Cabella (85, 27) - My highest rated player, and probably my best. Great ball control/assist ability. I've been tempted to sell him on numerous occasions, however.
CDM: Vernon Anita (77, forget age) - I like him here for now, but I rotate this position quite frequently.
RDM: Alexandru Maxim (84, 26) - Romanian player I found who straight kills it. Probably my favorite player on the team. Has great free kick ratings.

LB: Davide Santon (78, 26) - Very solid LB. I like his speed and crossing ability. Versatile.
CB: Paulo Del Fabro (80, 22) - great young player, coming into his own after a shaky first season.
CB: Ruben Vezo (81, 24) - Another very solid young player. I dont always trust him though.
RB: Darryl Janmaat (78, 28) - Very good defender. Versatile as well, just like santon.

GK: Mattia Perin (77, 24) - My goalie replacement for this season. I had Timo Horn for my first 3 seasons (sold Tim Krul right away year 1) and he eventually morphed into an 83 overall (at 22) before Bayern Munich came in and offered me 35 million pounds, which I sort of couldnt refuse. Perin has been nice so far though.

I also have some really intriguing youth backups, including Rolando Aarons (only a 72, but probably my quickest player. Creates alot of chances), Jonathan De Guzman (older, but an 80), Ruben Garcia (81, 23), and Adam Campbell (73, 22, phenomenal backup striker).

I'm trying to get at least 2 trophies this year. The EPL is a given, but I'm curious to where my other will come from.

DORTMUND -- Arsenal, having already secured a spot in the knockout round of the Champions League, put together an extremely young lineup against German power Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park and not only stole the victory, but also kept Dortmund out of the knockout round.

Shinji Kagawa got the home side off to a great start, with an 11' goal. Arsenal would answer in the 32' with a strike from new midfielder Jackson Hedges, a 16 year old American. Shortly after the break, Olivier Giroud found the net giving the Gunners a 2-1 lead which they would not relinquish. Dortmund--stunned, find themselves watching their spot in the knockout round go to surprise squad Galatasaray who allowed just 2 goals in their 6 group matches.

                        2015-16 Season (Part 2)

Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 to win the Super Cup. Before the end of the summer transfer window GK Ben Amos (65 OVR) was purchased from Manchester United for $550,000, and Sandro was re-loaned from Barcelona. Due to the qualifiers for the Champions League, Viking did not get off to a great start in the league, but managed to stay in the top 3 up to the Christmas break. Martin took on the role as the manager for Finland in its quest to play in Euro 16. Star ST Riski was injured days before the next game against the Czech Republic. With two games remaining and tied with Italy for the final spot, Finland managed to draw the Czech Republic 1-1, and drew group leaders Belgium 0-0. Finland ended tied with Italy on points, but lost on goal differential, not making the tournament. Martin resigned as manager shortly after, due to not completing his goal. In the Champions League Viking were drawn into a tough group with Roma, Borussia Monchengladbach, and Barcelona. Martin’s main goal was to not be embarrassed by the tough competition, and his secondary goal was to finish third and play in the Europa League after the group stage. The first game was at tough 2-2 draw against Roma. The second game against Barcelona ended in a 1-1 draw in a game Viking should have won, but gave up a late penalty kick which Messi converted. The third game Viking won 1-0 against the German giants. After 3 games, Viking was tied with Borussia Monchengladbach for second in the group. Another draw against Roma followed, then a shocking 4-1 win over Monchengladbach put Viking in a position to advance to the round of 16 if they got a point from Barcelona. In another surprising effort, Viking defeated the Catalonian giants to win the group!

The winter transfer window opened, and Martin knew he needed reinforcements to help the club succeed in the Champions League, and win the Tippeligaen. CB Solomon Kvirkvelia was brought in for a $3,000,000 price tag. CAM Ghayas Zahid (OVR 70) was purchased for $2,000,000 from Valerenga simply because Martin was frustrated because he always scored against Viking whenever they played Valerenga. RM James Forrest (73 OVR) signed a free transfer agreement from Celtic, as well as CB Marcin Kaminski (71 OVR) from Lech Poznan.

In the Norwegian Cup, Viking bowed out to ODD in the quarterfinals. ODD would go on to win the tournament. In the Champions League, Viking would be drawn against Manchester United in the round of 16. Viking would go on to win 5-2 on aggregate (I still have no idea exactly how I pulled this off). Marouane Fellaini, and Rafael both received red cards in the contests helping Viking on their way to an unlikely upset. The clock struck midnight on the Cinderella club as Viking bowed out of the Champions League to Arsenal losing 4-2 on aggregate. Arsenal would go on to lose in the Champions League final to Real Madrid. Wolfsburg would wind up winning the Europa League. In the Tippeligaen, Viking would recover and win the title with 66 points. Yann-Erik de Lanlay would score 11 goals to finish third in Tippeligaen scoring, while only playing 18 games that season.

In a surprise turn of events this morning a press conference was called at St James’ Park in which embattled owner Mike Ashley surrounded by the Board Of Directors announced that Newcastle United Football Club had parted ways with interim skipper John Carver. Carver as most of you know replaced the marginally acceptable Alan Pardew (who left mid season last year to challenge for relegation at Crystal Palace) and successfully kept the Toon from falling from the Premier League (some would argue that he tried in vain to not succeed). The conversation about who will replace Carver is being discussed at every pub in the Northeast. A few names overheard seem palatable such as Harry Redknapp, Remi Garde and Steve Mcclairan. Then there are the dreamers who want the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and to dig up the legend himself Joe Harvey. Whomever they decide on the club is in a state of flux as Ashley and crew have put nary a penny into bringing in serious talent. The fans of the Magpies have hooted and hollered for now on 4 years and still Ashley buys low and sells high. We have been told by a source that a decision is to be made soon as the team leaves for New Zealand in two weeks to start its preseason matches.

2:30 PM AP: It seems that season ticket holders and fans of Newcastle Football everywhere are in for another year of sub par football. Today the NUFC Board of Directors shockingly announced the hiring of unknown American Coach Matthew York. Mr. York through the recent research by the Chronicle Staff has never held a coaching position at any club or football team ever. Most here on the Tyne Side (at least those not wearing Red) are calling it a sham and are calling for walkouts and boycotts of Sports Direct and those associated with Owner Mike Ashley. “Days of Championship side football await. Hell with this guy in charge in three years the Toon could be fighting it out with Hartlepool and York City to avoid being sent down to Conference Premier.“ said NUFC great Alan Sheerer when asked about the signing. “This has made us the laughing stock of the Premier League as well as European Football. This Club and its fans deserve better. It all starts at the top and if this the direction that Mike Ashley has for the club then I don’t want to be associated with it.” Sheerer went on to say that until today he like most football fans had no knowledge of who York is and does not envy the position the new coach will be put in as he has seen the Toon Army dissect every move a coach makes. York is still in America and plans on flying over to London and making his way north in the morning. A 4:00pm news conference is set for tomorrow where they plan on making the hire official. More to come…

4:00pm AP: NUFC announce the official hire of Matthew York to skipper the Toon in the upcoming Premier League season. Mike Ashley held a press conference at his office but Coach York was not there as his flight was delayed due to inclement weather. The deal is believed to be in the 1 million over 5 years range making York the lowest paid skipper in the EPL. Again most of the Magpie fans are quite upset at these recent events even calling for a major boycott of home games at St James’ Park (people are refusing to call it Sports Direct Arena as that is Mike Ashley’s company). We were able to talk to Coach York over the phone…
CL: Coach York what if any, experience do you have pertaining to football?
York: Football I love the NFL especially the Giants...
CL: Coach York sorry to interject but soccer I am talking about soccer.
York:Well I play soccer on my Xbox, I really like clubs but when I use financial takeover I dominate with PSG and Real.
CL: Have you ever coached real life football or played it for that matter?
York: Nah never played it. I watch it when I get up in the morning on Saturday or Sunday. Grab a cup o joe and get the day started before the real football starts.
CL: Do you know any of the players that are on the team currently?
York: Guys I am joking I am a true Toon fan. I know little about the sport but I know this team inside and out. Do we have problems yes…Do we have a lot of money no but Mike and I have discussed it and we will address the weaknesses in the coming weeks.
There you have it the 1st interview with the Toon’s new coach. Whatever you think of him he does have a sense of humor.

Lets take a brief look at Newcastle United both on and off the field.

Newcastle United: Founded in 1892, they play their matches at The Sports Direct Arena aka St James Park located in North East of England along the Tyne River in Newcastle. St James holds nearly 55k people known as the Toon Army.

Nicknames: Toon, Magpies, Geordies and Skunks

Owner: Mike Ashley aka Fat Asshley. Net Worth 6B US Dollars, Owns Sports Direct International and has a small stake in Scottish Side Rangers FC

Cups Held: It’s been a while…the last time they finished top of the table was 1927. They last won a cup when they took home the FA Cup in 1955.

Budget: $17,000,000. Starting Wages $125,000. For such a large club with rabid fans who travel and spend money the Toon really get the raw end of the stick with Mike CASHly as owner.

Jersey: Puma, Wonga (bit of a controversy here folks as Wonga is a Pay Day Loan Company and top striker Pappis Cisse, of Muslim faith, reportedly balked at wearing the kit.

Rivals: The Tyne and Wear Derby…pits the beloved NUFC against those ugly Mackems from Sunderland. The Derby was 1st played in 1883 with NUFC holding a slight edge overall at 53-51-49. This match can make or break a managers tenure as a loss seems to permeate throughout the towns till they lock horns again.

Famous Fans:Sting if this was 1989 this would be cooler but thats all we got from the internets???

OK so now on to the team...

ST\CF: This is a position that lacks in depth but makes up for it in potential. Starting at the top of the formation is cagey veteran Pappis Demba Cisse. At 29 he may have 2-3 years left as a top flight Striker. The question going into this window is to ride him till he starts to deteriorate or sell him while he still has value (currently valued at 6-9 million). We have several young players in Ayoze Perez, Emanuel Riviera (recently signed for 9 million) and Adam Armstrong but none of them have spent any time in the EPL. Perez is slotted to start at LW and will spell Cisse when needed. Riviera and Armstrong will see spot duty and if pushed into service could be a bad sign.

Attacking Midfield: Here is where NUFC places a lot of responsibility for success. Recent signings Remy Cabella and Siem De Jong are talented and stars in their former leagues but still are untested in the Premier League. One stud that the Toon can hang their hat on is Moussa Sissoko. The Frenchman returns to CAM and if called into service could easily slide into a ST role. On the bench the Magpies have EPL veterans Yoan Gouffran, Gabriel Obertan, Jonas Gutierrez and Sammy Ameobi but the talent most are asking about is the young Rolando Aarons. Aarons is just 18 and the Toon have already heard from several top clubs about buying his services.

Defensive Midfield: More experience here instead of talent and potential. Starters Cheick Tiote and Vurnon Anita are solid defenders but lack the talent to move forward and add to the attack. New signing Jack Colback(formally from the Mackems, PS we will not forget the last Derby Jack never forget) gives them a little more on the offensive front and Mehdi Abeid is a well rounded CDM.

Defense: Here we have more of the same. Talented group but the starters are getting a little long in the tooth. High potential players LB Darryl Janmaat, RB Massadio Haidara, and LB Paul Dummett and veterans CB Mike Williamson, LB Steven Taylor, CB Ryan Taylor and Captain CB Fabricio Coloccini. I look for the team to move some of the vets this window and get a little younger. The team has loaned out the services of youngster CB James Lascelles (not ready for prime time) and EPL vet LB Davide Santon (wanted to let the youngsters play and he wanted to go home for personal reasons) Santon might be persuaded to return but if I was a betting man I wouldn’t place any money on it.

Keeper: Tim MOTHER FN Krul is one of top Goalies in the EPL. The Dutchman had a memorable save in the World Cup this summer and is always sought after during the windows. Behind Krul we have Vet Rob Elliot and youngster Jak Alnwick. Out on loan could be the eventual replacement for Krul, Karl Darlow.
