Re: I wonder if there will be an option to turn off getting fired
Okay, I'm kind of... positive right now.
I just started a career with Manchester United and simmed the first season. By finishing 9th in the league and going nowhere in the cup competitions, I completely failed a couple of my critical board expectations.
Yet, here I still am for season 2. Huh.
I'm not done testing yet, obviously, but this is a good sign I'd say.
And, I noticed that some teams have low-to-medium expectations across the board, even in the PL. Some teams, like Burney and Sunderland, have a high financial expectation but VL/L/M on the rest.
That's a plus too.
I don't like having to run tests every year due to not being able to turn firings off, but I'll try to stay positive.
edit.
I just finished season 2. I failed all objectives except financial (which was low anyway).
I was not fired. I think my manager rating even went up.
I'm confused. But uh, I'm not complaining.
edit 2.
Alright, season 3 is done.
I didn't bother to re-sign anyone and finished in 16th place.
I also failed all my objectives (I had no financial objective though).
My manager rating went from 57 to 36.
So yeah, guess what happened...
"We believe that you deserve another chance and would like for you to stay at Man Utd next season."
Of course I was fir-WHAT?!
edit 3.
Season 4. Finished 16th again. Failed everything (only 4 objectives again). My rating went up 3 points somehow.
I'm still here.
This has me quite excited!
Are you serious? That is bloody godamn awesome! You have made me so happy! I want to build a team over time and not be forced into winning the treble in my first season because the board thinks a team that hasn't won a Championship in ten years can suddenly win everything out of the blue.
I'm no Pep or Luis Enrique
But, yeah I can agree with ZO. We probably should be fired if we keep screwing up. It's a huge part of football. So there should be an option and it's absurd that we don't have one.
I still can't believe we can't properly edit players in our manager career. This series has great presentation but it really lacks customization and freedom.Comment

Re: I wonder if there will be an option to turn off getting fired
Now that they have a "system," in place, I'd be happy with an option to decide yourself what the goals are at the beginning of the season, or just leave it alone. Make it easy or make it hard.
I feel like they add a small layer to CM, but the logic of some are just stupid. I think the bottom line for everything EA FIFA....more customization please and thank you.Comment

I'll be starting my league with Cardiff City (and a few pints) tonight. This is really exciting news that I may be given time to actually build a team and then get hired to lead a better team on to great things! BLUEBIRDS!!!Comment

Re: I wonder if there will be an option to turn off getting fired
One thing that is realistic this year:
Prior to selecting the team you want to manage, you can at least see the goals and what's expected of you before accepting the job. In previous years (...14,15,16) you would take the job before finding out what you needed to accomplish."Robert De Niro would be good. I've heard that's who they want to play me." Claudio Ranieri
"It is amazing how many drivers think that the brakes are for slowing the car down."

I guess it's realistic to a certain degree, but it also seems like the board set me up to flop a major goal.Comment

Re: I wonder if there will be an option to turn off getting fired
You're right, I should have said that it is now more realistic. We can see what's expected us of before choosing the team as compared to other years where we sign with a team and wait for an email about our league and cup requirements (which could have been altered depending on your starting XI).
It seems less black and white now with some wiggle room on most objectives."Robert De Niro would be good. I've heard that's who they want to play me." Claudio Ranieri

It's more realistic in the sense, "my board is making actual demands of me," but the demands they are giving me are insane. I'm following through with them, but they don't give ANY info.
For instance I had to sign a top player at the forward position. "Top player," for League 2 standards? World standards? 60 rated team standards?
I saved my game so i could go back if I needed to. I think I ended up spending too much money because I (again,) I didn't know what "top" was being defined as. I signed a 71 rated ST for 4mill, and a 12k weekly salary. I'm in the red because of the transaction, and won't meet my "major," demand in finances. Had they said, "A top league two player," I could have done so and saved money.
I don't know. The lack of information makes me feel like I'm throwing darts blindfolded after I've been spun in a circle.......In the end I don't even know if I'm facing the dart board when I throw.Comment

Re: I wonder if there will be an option to turn off getting fired
In my Leyton Orient career I've gotten through March 2017 and I only have the last 4 or 5 April games left to simulate. Managing the youth academy and player training takes awhile and if I simulate through the calendar, the computer will start all my high rated real players instead of my youth products.
We are in 15th in the table and out of all cups but my rating is currently at 81. It went as low as 61 around October or November and the number even showed red. I also got an email around this time saying that I was not on track to meet my high priority goal of winning the league and I needed to change things. My youth players have grown quite a bit through the season now so we are getting some better results.
Fingers crossed I am not fired and haven't wasted 3 hours of my life on this team..."Robert De Niro would be good. I've heard that's who they want to play me." Claudio Ranieri

Yea that is a very vague objective. The only one I've had close to that was to sign a forward to a Crucial 1st Team contract.

So far it seems better than years before. However, the lack of detail in most board demands will make some more difficult to meet.Comment

I'll be interested to see how you fair with the "winning the league," if you don't. I have never met the winning aspect, but I was only supposed to hit the mid table mark.

Re: I wonder if there will be an option to turn off getting fired
If I remember correctly, it was a red 61 and I got the email from the board around the same time. I had been ignoring the manager rating because it didn't seem to make sense; going down when I won and going up for what seemed like no reason. Shortly after getting the email, we won 2 games in a row and after simming the week, it jumped up to 74 in black again.
My only objective higher than low (4), was domestic success with winning League 2 and finishing in the round of 32 which were a high rating (2). The two low objectives I had were to increase ticket sales by 20% over two years and to sign 5 youth players and have them play at least a few games as starters or off the bench.
Update:
I finished the season and before I get to what happened, let me give my specific objectives because I had a few wrong. These were the Leyton Orient obejctives for season 1:
Youth (Low, 4)
Sign a player from the youth academy at the defense position. - Complete
Brand (Low, 4)
Play 5 consecutive home games with at least 85% attendance. - Complete
Financial (Very Low, 5)
None.
Domestic (High, 2)
Win English Football League 2 title. - Not Completed
Reach the FA Cup Round of 32. - Complete
Continental (Very Low, 5)
None.
We finished the season in 12th, 13 points out of the last promotion playoff spot but we completed every other objective the board gave us. At the end of the season we were not fired and received an email that said something like, "It wasn't the season we wanted but it was still a success and we think you are the right man for the job."
Our goals for the 2nd season are now exactly the same except for a few different youth objectives."Robert De Niro would be good. I've heard that's who they want to play me." Claudio Ranieri
"It is amazing how many drivers think that the brakes are for slowing the car down."

Re: I wonder if there will be an option to turn off getting fired
So we're not getting fired that easily anymore?
I was really afraid because I put a lot of effort in my first season but some of the objectives seem bugged.
Financial goals : reduce wages by 100.000$
I haven't achieved this but I generated a 30 million plus in the winter transfer window, so financially the team should be stable :/
Youth Development: Sign 2 players with a potential of >75 and play them 10 games.
I've signed a few players and let them play a few games but I still get the message that I'm missing the objective and I dont know why.
Same with the youth players development. They said I should improve them by at least 10 points and I'm not sure if they mean combined 10 points or 10 points for each player (which seems unrealistically high if I also want to train other players during the season)Comment

Re: I wonder if there will be an option to turn off getting fired
I'm sure there is some type of formula but I failed my only high rated objective and survived. I also met every other goal so it's hard to tell what it would take to be axed.
I would just focus on whichever objectives they have as highest priority and if you can't meet those just make sure you complete all the others.
For the record, I ended with a manager rating of 70 for the season and started the second year with that 70 rating. At one point in mid April after two consecutive losses, I was a 69 rating and the number was red."Robert De Niro would be good. I've heard that's who they want to play me." Claudio Ranieri
