Very unknown but very doubtful as well. It could be anything at this point it could be a standard game, DLC, Digital Download or any combination of the three in my view.

My take of this I hope EA says something very soon. I got a feeling it could be paid DLC, digital download (we are in 2018 after all and it could be accessible via the PS store or XBOX marketplace, hope I got that right I do not owe an XBOX) and/or Standard release but really who knows at this point plus some of the World Cup jerseys are just being released this week.
So at this point who knows.

Does anyone else here enjoy the Fifa 18 Switch version better than the PS4/XBox one version?

I have both the Switch and Xbox Fifa 18, and while the Xbox version has some neat additions, I just find the Switch version more "fun".

On topic, I am hoping for a stand alone world cup game as well. I have bought every world cup game since 1998.

i know it's wishful thinking.....probably anything FUT-related (since it might generate more transactions). my guess would be paid DLC (maybe $10 or so, i hope) and a separate paid digital download of just the WC mode only (with only qualifying teams and kits). saves money on making the disc and packaging and rewards those with FIFA 18 already and making it available to those who just want the WC experience. i remember when EA came out with the March Madness digital release years ago, so maybe something like that.

The two main reasons we didn't do it as a DLC here - and it was driven from what we learned from Euro - was, firstly, primarily 50 per cent of our users only buy World Cup. There are a lot of people out there who only get interested in football when the World Cup comes around. So for those guys, if you do it as a DLC it's a real barrier to entry. They want to walk into a shop and pick up a packaged good off the shelf. If you do it through FIFA they've then got to go and buy FIFA, go home and go online to find the DLC and download it. It's a very complicated process for the kind of casual player. In addition it's more expensive for them."

I saw that. It's basically the same article they put out in Feb, with the same sourcing. EA is being super quiet on this probably because 1- the don't want it overshadowing all the current and upcoming FUT promotions, and 2- they probably aren't going to release the DLC until mid/late May. The content is going to be 95% FUT related, and until the actual WC tournament starts they won't have all those special cards or competitions.

I'm convinced it's going to be a DLC with only 32 teams. I would say it's too late to make an announcement and release a standalone version.

Plus I don't think they would include 200+ national teams and qualifiers in a DLC.

with DLC more prominent (and much easier than packaging, etc.)....just makes more sense to have a FIFA World Cup 18 available as a separate DLC only game (like March Madness). they can make it free DLC for FIFA 18 users and $10-$15 for just the mode only with the 32 qualifying teams. that seems fair. and then maybe another $30 game (with all 200 or so countries included). he's even admitting in the comments that is a niche market for the world cup.
