I didn't say this gen had a standalone. I said the standalone game was last gen only and FIFA 14 cg got a content update/dlc for the World Cup.

That's a weak stand-alone and you can only play friendly matches. In no way does it represent the world cup in Brazil that year. Why care to even bring it up? Lol

World Cup game in 2018?

FIFA World Cup 2014 was actually a pretty fun game and concept which I wish they implemented in current FIFA games for the international part. It takes years for you to get on the national team but IRL if you are a good young talent you will play for the U-21 team or something.

I really hope they add a World Cup patch or a DLC to FIFA 18 as there's no way I'm buying a fully fledged game which is a copy of FIFA 18 with the WC tourney.

I wonder who will buy it though. Most footie fans would have FIFA 18 with FIFA 19 slated to come in Sep 2018. Plus all the FUT fans would've already spent money and virtual coins to build up their teams so they definitely wouldn't want to waste all that money & effort.

the last WC game I bought was in 2010 and that was coz I didn't purchase FIFA that year and didn't intend to buy it the next one as well. Would love to see some sales numbers for the standalone WC game coz if folks are willing to shell out full price for something that shouldn't be more than a DLC, that would prove folks will buy the same game with roster & kit updates.

One of the good things about the last World Cup game was some nations had their World Cup kit and their Qualifying or EURO 2012/Copa America 2011 kits. Hopefully the next world cup game will include several nations with alternate kits to avoid kit clashes:

Italy 2018 World Cup Home Kits are going to be monochrome blue and the away strip is monochrome white. EA should also add their EURO 2016/WC Qualifying kits which were the traditional Blue Shirt/White Shorts and White Shirt/Blue Shorts. Same should go for France/England/Belgium/Columbia etc.

Argentina are reverting back to traditional black shorts with the blue & white shirt while their new away strip is going to be completely boring as it will be a black shirt with white socks. EA needs to add their Copa America/WC Qualifying kits white shorts with blue/white shirt and monochrome navy away or their 2014 WC Away Kit.

I don't think it's possible but EA should at mix n match option for the World Cup game at least because in the 2014 World Cup several nations had to mix n match in order to avoid kit/shorts clash.

I think like any game, the standalone world cup games have a niche audience that will still buy the game, me being one of those people.

Expect tons of bugs for sure. They alway rush to make these games that ended up with tons of bugs that never get patched.

I remember that in 2014 version when you qualified to the World Cup you couldn't select your squad before the tournament. So you ended up using the default players, which was huge bug and they never patched. Also the menus tend to be very messed up.

As they release the game in early April, they are never able to correct all the mistakes. The concept is really amazing but the game is a real mess.

In addition to adding more kits and hopefully twice as many licensed kits, they also need to add WAAAYY more players to the squads every country had only 15-20 reserves to chose from and Diego Costa was not on Spain and more than half of the Mexico Copa America 2015 were not in World Cup 2014. They also need to let the throwback kits be selectible from especially the classic 1950 Brazil kit with the Yellow and Green stripes and white shorts that could be used against Italy/France/Greece/Iceland/United States to avoid short clashes.

I really hope they release the game. This is always my favorite FIFA game and it’s a damn shame the last one didn’t come out on next gen.

It's tough to patch and support a game which has a short life span and targeted towards a specific event. I mean look at it this way... we have FIFA 2018 right now released in Sep 2017. The WC 2018 should come out in May/Jun 2018 and then FIFA 2019 comes out in Sep 2019. Essentially the WC edition is a bridge between FIFA 2018 & FIFA 2019 for 3 months. So unless the game is unplayable I doubt EA fix the WC game instead of supporting FIFA 18 or trying to focus on FIFA 2019.

I'm guessing we won't hear anything official about it until after the qualifying is finished. Only 23 of the 32 teams have qualified so far. The last day of qualifying is November 15. I'm sure we will hear about it after that.

Doubt it will be announced until at least the beginning of the year. The 2014 game was released in mid April. This would be the first World Cup game on this gen, so they are for sure doing a standalone one.
