Re: World Cup game in 2018?
Last time EA did both. It was free DLC for FIFA 14

EA announced 2014s game around Feb 6. Maybe we get some info this week.

That was a little different because the full stand-alone game was only available on last-gen. The PS4/XbOne add-on was basically nothing. If we get what that was then that is beyond sad.Comment

Re: World Cup game in 2018?
I for one do hope that we get a standalone World Cup game. I loved the 2014 one, at least until mine got a bit glitchy (I played the Captain Your Country mode several times, and after the first one with the USA, subsequent playthroughs with other nations would not see my overall progress beyond I think 72).NCAA: Minnesota, Minnesota St-Mankato

World Cup game in 2018?
Here’s the Dutch language guy for FIFA saying he’s working on the World Cup game. The video isn’t in English though.

Re: World Cup game in 2018?
EA is set to include a World Cup mode in FIFA 18 instead of releasing a new game for the competition.
SI is reporting the same thing from the goal article but they referenced the article. I still don’t think it’s true but interesting them and a few other major outlets are reporting it now.

Re: World Cup game in 2018?
The way I see it, what's likely to sell more? A $20 DLC that features 32 teams, or a $60 standalone game with ~200? Probably the standalone. But then I'm not EA either, and most of the things they do make 0 sense.NCAA: Minnesota, Minnesota St-Mankato

Re: World Cup game in 2018?
The word 'instead' in the SI article really hurts. I was looking forward to a standalone World Cup game with the entire qualifying available with all 200+ nations. That and the fact that they aren't even going to license all the stadiums shows how poor this will certainly end up if true.
I just inserted WC 2014 to have a good cry at what could have been on a next gen console...Comment

Re: World Cup game in 2018?
Pulled out FIFA: Road to World Cup 98 and that game was AMAZING. Not only nostalgic, but still fun. It's amazing to think there may never again be a scenario where we can try our darndest to get (insert small soccer nation here) to world cup glory...Comment

Re: World Cup game in 2018?
I'm thinking of trying just that with a bottom-feeder in UEFA. San Marino maybe? Or at least another sub-1.5 star squad.Last edited by Td1984; 02-08-2018, 04:31 PM.NCAA: Minnesota, Minnesota St-Mankato

Re: World Cup game in 2018?
It's just amazing how UT gambling has completely changed FIFA (and gaming in general) in the past 5-6 years. Prior to this, the idea of not releasing a standalone game with full qualification and single-player experience would have been insane. It's pathetic.Comment

Re: World Cup game in 2018?
It is ruining single-player sports gaming. Only a handful of games are continuing to put energy and money into franchise modes and single-player experiences.Comment
