Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

finished the first season with BVB Dortmund. simmed a lot of it, only playing the big games. won the league over Bayern by 1 point! also won Deutscher Pokal over Bayer 04. so now I am in July. I need to bring back Sahin, and a few other players need to come in. will probably sign a good LB backup/starter, a backup for Benzema (Schieber is mediocre), and a few young potential stars who i will loan out again. My players are performing well together. I made Champions league and unfortunately, my objective is to win it. Not semi's. WIN. kind of upset that I have to reach that, seeing how my squad is good, but probably won't be able to hang in there with Barca/Madrid/Bayern. unless i can bring in some outstanding players. but i am trying to keep this realistic.

    My targets include:

    Serge Gnabry
    Anthony Martial
    Dominic Criscito

I have 69.5 mil sterling and 325k/week to spend for my transfer budget. quite a bit of cash to play with. Hopefully I won't disappoint the owners as they seem to be driving towards that Champions Cup....

    will update soon!

hell yeah it is haha. I have a "trick" per say, that i'm still testing to confirm if its true. If you dump all your budget into wages in the transfer slider just before you end the season, you should get substantially more money from the board to spend. I think it is also tied in to your starting squad's overalls. the higher your team's individual overalls are, the more money you are going to get. (thought i saw it mentioned somewhere here on the forums, so if it was your idea, kudos to you!)

Unfortunately had to get off, girlfriend wanted to watch tv, but I have had a bit of a roster change, bringing in a few people and letting a few go out on loans or selling them. suprisingly, Kehl wanted to leave the club, but I can't see that happening IRL.... haha

will update more when I get back on.

I've heard that before too, I usually like to use that money at years end on better scouts. I figure even if it's true, in the long run scouting is worth investing in.

Well if the starting 11 you have listed affects your goals, I don't see why it wouldn't also affect your money as well.

Haha smart man, keep that girlfriend happy if you want any chance at being happy

about Sneijder, you could always make up the scenario that he only wants to come back if he gets more money, then pay him whatever you see fit or something. be creative. lol.

and stealing SES would be a huge move, although if the game plays out like it has for me most times, you won't get him for anything cheap. probably 10+ mil higher than his base value. but I could possibly see it happening if you were to pay enough money... to keep it realistic, you should probably bid more than what you think, even if you can get him for lower, just to keep the realism in there.

I decided to do one with BVB Dortmund. i'm going to follow the rules you laid down, and try to build them up. However, I might be a little more lenient on the amount of non-EU players, as BVB tend to buy from all over. so that means selling Lewandowski in the January window. (started this save a long time ago, but only made it mid august, then got distracted. so Lewandowski is still on the team. I've decided to use a "scout future star" on this one, so we will see what i get returned with.

My plan also involves buying Sahin permanently from Real Madrid. I've seen rumours all over the place that he wants to be in Dortmund, so I will probably buy him back. I also plan on building a lot of the squad up from youth players.

Do you think it is realistic that Dortmund buys Gotze back? would really like to have him...
In all my games, I've never seen anyone move for Draxler. I think it's safe to assume he'll be with Schalke until the summer, and I can take a call at that time.

As for usurping Milan, yes I definitely should bid higher than I would for SES. I got him for about £23 million when his value was £17 million, so I think a bid of his value in euros plus seven or eight million would be fair. Let's see if I can afford it first!

I don't see any issue with that as the EU player rule exists in Serie A but not in the Bundesliga. The Sahin buy is a great move, as Dortmund will need the extra firepower if they want to continue their upward run. As for the GK on your Dortmund save, don't worry. If you play him well and he's a world-beater, he'll exceed his potential and hit the 90s.

If SES has a base value of 17 mil, I would say that as a rival, you would have to pay near 30 mil, seeing his potential and all that, not to mention he is quite young. I suppose you would have to swap roles and imagine you are Milan and Inter wants to buy him. Then pay that price, unless you can't afford it.

I hope to play him well. I hope he stays for another 5/1 update (will be 17 by that time) as he only will come in as a 62 or so. Langerak will still have the backup role locked down in terms of overall. hopefully after the next 5/1 update, he gets into the 70's so when I sign him, he can jump straight into the back up spot. I also managed to sign a young Brazilian CAM to my academy. 80-93 potential at them moment.. hopefully he sticks around for a while too.

If you hire scouts, I suggest you get two, one that you have scout the country that you are playing in, and one to go wherever. Like, I have 2 scouts. One scouts youth in Germany and one in Brazil (this one will move around). Looking at BVB's reserves, there are a lot of young German players. so I only see fit to scout that country for youth, as it makes sense that BVB would scour Germany for more talent. I'm going to have my "wandering scout" follow a rule I'm forcing on myself. He is only allowed to scout one country/continent until each continent has had one country scouted. Since he is in Brazil right now, He can't do another S. American country until everywhere else has had one. I feel like this will help create a more diverse team and lower the frequency of finding those "platinum players". Perhaps you could implement something similar.

scouting is definitely worth it, although signing 3 5*5* scouts and having an overflowing academy of Ronaldo's doesn't quite work for me. lol I struggle to get them all playing time. so once I have one 5*5* scout, I usually spend the rest of the money on contracts/raises.

I've read that if you make a starting XI out of all reserve players then end the season (in my case as BVB), the goal for the Bundesliga would be more like "challenge for the title" or "avoid relegation", depending on how low the overall was. So since the game believes that you have a low overall starting XI, buying players to upgrade your team slightly won't cost an arm and a leg, and would give me a lower transfer budget. Hence the inverse at the other end of the spectrum. Having a better overall XI means you are set to challenge for lofty goals, and to upgrade the squad (if possible) will cost you a pretty penny.

I think one thing that would be cool to see put in place would be messages from the board that would be along the lines of:

                "Dear ________,

We feel there is a need to upgrade our LB position. Below are players we would like to see wearing our colors. We have provided the necessary funds to purchase these players, if you deem worthy.

                xxxxx
                xxxxx
                xxxxx
                xxxxx
                xxxxx
                xxxxx

                Sincerely,

                The Board"

That way, the budget you get could be reflective of your needs. Then your objectives won't be given to you until your first actual competitive game of the season. The board would make an assessment based on what players you did (or didn't) sign. This would create more realistic goals for one to achieve (ex: signing Ronaldo on BVB would instantly mean win the league)

and yes, "happy wife, happy life" (not married yet though haha)

I meant more in the way of gtn scouts and youth scouts. I add a gtn scout one year then youth the next and so forth.

I would love this being implemented, it would be great. Add much more realism and immersion.

Same here bro, same here. We have multiple tvs though so I just tell her go in the other room haha

I'll be engaged soon(if she says yes that is).

You can only use it once per season, but you can use it more that once in the same career. I'd say if you used it a second time in the same season you may get the message at the start of the next season, that says the scout has been sent. If you used it and it didn't work, did you use it before starting a career? In my experience it doesn't work on a "new" career. What I mean by that is, it applies the "scout a future star" to whatever your last save was in career mode and shows up when you load that save.

                        Arsenal, Year 2, Mr. Manager.

                        Year 1:
                        38-8-4
Won FA, and Capitol 1 Cup.

                        Year 2:
                        35-5-1
Champions Cup: Round 16 vs Porto.
FA Cup: Round 5 vs Chelsea.
Capitol 1 Cup: Final vs Chelsea.

In the January window I thought for the future and brought in:
CB Kurt Zouma, CB Dario Del Fabro due to constant injuries to Vermaleen and Koscielny.

                        Squad:
RB. Jenkinson (Outplaying Sagna. Sagna at 32 will be a sub while my youth progress. If someone offers for him he can go. )
RCB. Mertesacker (30. Plan on keeping for his size but have youth to take the toll off as he ages. )
LCB. Kurt Zouma (Love this guy. Always making plays. Young. Plan on keeping him in this role and selling Koscielny or Verm. Or both as I'm stocked with great youth at this spot. Feel like my other 3 defenders can cover the bad marking from younger guys. )
LB. Gibbs. (The future for a while at this spot. )
                        CDM. Ramsey. (Captain)
RM. Santi Cazorla (just turned 30. I play a high possession game but have replacements in place for when he starts his exit they enter their prime. I do feel he is way too over paid.)
                        CM: Özil (Playmaker)
LM: Julian Draxler (21, we will be praising for years. )
RS: Diego Costa (goal machine but kind of regret getting him. A lot of money and Walcott actually excels when I play him up front. Downfall is Theo's size. If it's not on a counter or 1v1 he gets smoked. )
LS: Giroud (great for the crosses. Really opens up my choice of attack. Only 28 too and his play style has me thinking he has longevity. )

                        Subs:
Podolski (Pure left foot sniper who is clutch up front. Probably will end up losing him due to money. )
Theo Walcott (my man. Great on the right or up front. )
Wilshere (was upset at first, I monitor due to being injury prone but in year 2 he has received a bunch of play time and is doing his thing. )
The Ox (Showing Promise. Part of my 3 punch counter in the second half with Theo and Silva)
                        Wellington Silva (98 speed, 94 accel, 97 agility, 95 balance. 75 rating, plays like a 91+)
                        Koscielny (too many injuries. )
                        Vermaleen (ditto)

Martin Hinteregger / Del Fabro (subs for bottom tier teams)

You can only use it once per season, but you can use it more that once in the same career. I'd say if you used it a second time in the same season you may get the message at the start of the next season, that says the scout has been sent. If you used it and it didn't work, did you use it before starting a career? In my experience it doesn't work on a "new" career. What I mean by that is, it applies the "scout a future star" to whatever your last save was in career mode and shows up when you load that save.

So I want to start a new career and use that scout future star I just have to have enough coins to use it and it will work? I tried it before and it sad could not work for whatever reason. Also what's a team in Europe that has a real life stadium with cool kits that is not in England. I'm looking for a team that has good skill and decent budget but someone I can build up but most important thing is to have real life stadium and sweet kits any ideas?

Roma is fun, not the greatest kits but good budget, good history, real life stadium, they aren't in champions league so you have to earn it. I would suggest, start a career and then save and exit, then buy the scout a future star and it will work for sure.

If you use the scout, use it after the January window and don't promote until after may. I posted in the youth academy thread kind of explaining why people are seeing poor stats on high prospects.

What he said, use it after January, keeps his age lower and he'll surely make it to may without wanting out
