Squad Report
Starting 11
GK: Asmir Begovic: 83: 9/10
33 Apps, 13 Clean Sheets
Begovic was revelation for us when he came in. With 11 clean sheets in the league, all of them were for us, none for Stoke. He went until the second match of April without conceding and made some crucial saves for us that made our season. One of the signings that was so crucial to our incredible second half of the season to get us into the top 4. Will be kept and will be around for a while. An absolutely brilliant keeper.
RB: Ryan Taylor: 75: 8/10
28 Apps, 2 Goals, 2 Assists
The 30 year old Englishman started the season as second choice only playing in cup games. However, when Janmaat got injured he made the step up to the first team and I never looked back. A hell of a free kick and a knack for breaking into the box and setting up one of our attackers, I wish I could keep him. Unfortunately, he point blank refuses to sign a new contract so he will be out of contract at the end of the season. Hopefully Janmaat will do just as well as him next season.
CB: Kolo Toure: 77: 9/10
27 Apps, 1 Goal
The 34 year old Ivorian was signed in January on the cheap to sure up the defence, and he did just that. A formidable defender with decent pace and great strength, he didn't make any errors. Despite being partnered with the captain, he controlled the back line and acted as the defensive enforcer. However he will be slowly fazed out of the starting line up due to his age. A brilliant player and the second of my top 3 signings. Will be kept.
CB: Fabricio Coloccini: 82: 7/10 (C)
36 Apps
A good captain and still growing in overall at 33 years old. He won every header in defence and made every clearance. Was a lot better in the first half of the season but when Toure came in he was upstaged. It would have been nice if he was able to contribute at the other end of the field from corners but throughout the season he was a decent defender. Just like Toure, will be fazed out slowly throughout the season but will be kept.
LB/CDM: Jack Colback: 74: 7/10
34 Apps, 3 Assists
He started the season in defensive midfield with Tiote, controlling the play with his excellent passing, but the arrival of Ronaldinho caused a series of events that pushed him into his second position of left back. He played well, defending well and worked brilliantly with Aarons down the left hand side, good at overlapping and his passing was brilliant, able to play out from the back easily. Will be kept but may drop to the bench next season.
RM/CDM: Moussa Sissoko: 76: 6/10
34 Apps, 3 Goals, 5 Assists
This guy did not impress me much this season. Not in right mid and not in centre mid. He contributed to goals and decent plays, but when he got the ball he was never in control. Often got in the way of chances, running in front of a player as he tries to made a run and playing passes worse than anyone else on the team. Has pre-season to prove himself, otherwise on his way out.
CAM/CDM: Remy Cabella: 81: 8/10
39 Apps, 5 Goals, 9 Assists
In the first half of the season this guy was incredible, scoring and setting up goals. Making runs with the ball that would beat any defender, good passing, good everything. When Ronnie arrived I pushed Cabella deeper and, although it affected his performances initially he got used to the position. He was able to control the play from a deeper role, not getting the assists but starting the chances. I'm slowly adapting Cabella into a deep lying playmaker. His first touch is excellent and he can make a turn and send Aarons or Kampl flying up the wing. Brilliant player.
RM: Kevin Kampl: 77: 7/10
12 Apps, 1 Goal
Took a while for this guy to get used to the Premier League but he is a nightmare for defenders down the right hand side. Towards the end of the season he made a noticeable jump and was able to flick it past the full back and not be caught. His passing is on point and so are his runs. Best of all, his link up play with Riviere. They have a great passing move on with each other and seemed to connect immediately. I see him being a vital player next season.
LM: Rolando Aarons: 71: 9/10
37 Apps, 7 Goals, 5 Assists
Brilliant youngster. His link up play with Dinho was the best I've seen. Sudden bursts of pace and brilliant control. He has a knack for winning penalties, beating the full back to cut inside into the box. He usually is either brought down or scores. There was a couple of own goals this season that probably should have been credited to him but stats don't say everything. He is just amazing. I might loan him out next season as he is not growing as much as I would like.
CAM: Ronaldinho: 79: 9/10
13 Apps, 10 Goals, 2 Assists
Incredible. His passing is amazing, his finishing his amazing, his dribbling is amazing, everything is amazing. He can get a shot out of nothing, his link up with Aarons is incredible and best of all, he doesn't have to sprint. Just gets the ball and takes a few touches before it is with someone else. His penalty stats and free kick stats are brilliant as well. His only flaw is his stamina. Will be a crucial part of the team next season before I start to faze him out of the team. A bargain at £4 million.
ST: Emmanuel Riviere: 74: 8/10
26 Apps, 12 Goals, 3 Assists
Started the season as second choice to Papiss Cisse but when he got his chance, he took it and was brilliant. Linking up well with Kampl and getting quite a few goals in the second half of the season. Scoring was our problem in the first half but with Ronnie and Kampl feeding him he was able to finish as our top scorer. However, I will need a better striker for next season so Emmanuel will be dropped to the bench. He will still get chances though, he just isn't at Champions League quality.
Notable Subs/Reserves
ST: Ayoze Perez: 73: 6/10
18 Apps, 6 Goals, 1 Assist
Not a bad substitute striker. Good on the ball and has quick feet. He has good ability and has popped up with crucial goals throughout this season. A good player. I shall try and loan him out next season.
CB: Virgil van Dijk: 75: 6/10
7 Apps
Didn't get much of a chance to prove himself, however from when he played he seemed like a solid defender who can also slot into the midfield slot when needed. Will be put into the first team next season as I faze out the older players and bring in the younger ones.
LB: Davide Santon: 76: 6/10
23 Apps, 1 Goal
Was removed from the starting lineup after the series of changes following Ronaldinho's arrival. Colback stepped up brilliantly and to be honest, I don't see a future for Santon at the club.
ST: Nelson Oliveira: 73: 6/10
6 Apps, 3 Goals, 1 Assist
Not much of a chance to judge him, however he was terrible upon arrival. He played against Everton, grabbed a hat trick and played relatively well from then on. Will be seen more of next season.
CAM: Siem de Jong: 78: 5/10
20 Apps, 5 Goals, 2 Assists
Not as good as Ronaldinho, Cabella or Perez who can all slot into that position. When he played he didn't perform at all. Will be sold in the summer.
RB: Daryl Janmaat: 75: 6/10
15 Apps, 1 Assist
Got injured in the first half of the season and didn't get a chance to come back into the starting lineup. Will be first choice next season.
CB: Steven Taylor: 76: 6/10
22 Apps
A decent defender but Toure completely pushed him out of the picture. Will be sold next season more than likely.
GK: Jak Alnwick: 61: 7/10
14 Apps, 7 Clean Sheets
A great goalkeeper. Brilliant reflexes and will continue to be my second choice keeper next season.
