I Think that it was an amazing choice which perhaps have something to do with me starting a career mode with them no to long ago... Really like the fact that you brought up the fans as a reason for choosing them since I really love that they stand up against racism, homophobia etc.

Discussion time! I thought about this earlier today and I think it's an interesting question. How did you find this thread and why did you join it? My story is pretty simple: I was looking for teams to use in career mode and this thread appeared in Google search. It sounded interesting so I decided to check it out and I liked it so I signed up. You know the rest.

Yeah, life has been very kind to me. I think I've been lucky in that my experiences in about 30 years are more than some get in a lifetime, and I'm very grateful to have had that. I have to credit my dad for working so hard to ensure that my brother and I had the best possible childhoods, and my mum for doing a cracking job of raising us while my old man was out overseeing his businesses.

I think I've been on this forum since around page 30, though I was absent for around 100 pages or so in between, but it's pretty bloody ridiculous to see the growth. I used to post on Neoseeker, but the forum there got way too judgmental about unrealistic signings and stuff. I mean, seriously. It's a game. There's no way an unexperienced manager is ever going to manage a first-division team, so that in itself kills the realism. It's nice to try to sign players the club you manage might actually go for, but to attack someone for signing Raphael Varane at Werder Bremen is just cruel. Glad I found a much better, more understanding group of lads here.

Don't see my future stateside, and it's easy enough to get a visa for work/pleasure anyway thanks to my UK status. For passport purposes, I'm Indian, but I feel every bit as British as you mate! England's been my football, rugby and cricket team since I was a lad. I would have loved to try to play cricket for them, but I never qualified unfortunately. So yeah, moving back is the most likely option, especially since my family owns property in Essex, Cornwall and Hampshire. Though my wife adores life in Germany. She studied in Bonn, Amsterdam was her summer getaway. That's why the other options are still open.

So you aren't happy that my Aussies beat you in the latest test series :P

I find it odd that the board organised just the single preseason match, especially one that was agreed on as part of the Filip Djordjevic transfer. We'll need to play several local teams when we go to Switzerland for our training camp, and while it's not ideal, it's certainly better than sending this lot into the new season with one match to their name. But this game was just fantastic, and the boys executed my tactics perfectly.

We lined up in a narrow 4-4-2 diamond, which let us pack the midfield and recover the ball quickly when we lost possession. All three of our goals had a similar pattern. Each one began with one of our midfielders feeding Cataldi, who found space to beat his marker before setting up a teammate making a run. He picked up 3 assists, which is a great sign that we're headed in the right direction. We conceded because of a lapse in concentration, but at least it was in a friendly. We'll improve with fitness and time.

Lucas Deaux
Dislocated shoulder, 8 weeks

That barge on Lucas in the first half wasn't expected. Lazio can be rough, even in games with no impact, so we knew they would try something. But that move was bad even by Senad Lulic's own violent standards. I hoped the injury wouldn't be as severe as this, but we have to deal with it. That's why we have depth across the board; you never know when someone is going to get injured, suspended, or otherwise ruled out.

Transfer window

Obviously, the big transaction in this window was Alejandro Bedoya, whom LA Galaxy bought for £4.2 million. Lille came in for Itay Schechter and Issa Cissokho, two of the players we listed for transfer, at a combined £3 million. Anthony Knockert left us for Monaco after just one season, but on good terms for £2.4 million. We also sold on several youngsters to raise another £2.4 million, and Georges-Kevin Knoudou joined QPR on loan in the Championship. After the board took their share of the revenue, I had another £9 million plus the £8.5 million from earlier in the window: £17.5 million.

We brought in ten players that had been scouted through our Global Transfer Network, and while none of them are household names, they all have the necessary skills to do what we want them to. Lindsay Rose did a job for us last season, so he was our first signing. His contract with Lyon was due to expire in a year, so he cost around just £2.5 million. We also spent £2 million to get Djibril Sidibe from Lille, the club that bought our previous right back. Ibrahim Ghaleb of Al-Nassr and Saudi Arabia was our biggest signing at £4.1 million, and along with South African midfielder Oupa Manyisa from Orlando Pirates at £1.6 million, we were able to secure two hardworking players with incredible physical stats and good technique. For £1 million, we signed Adam Gyurcso, an underrated forward from Hungary who had been listed by Bayern Munich. We also convinced Juventus to sell us Younes Marzouk for just £1.8 million... a steal!

After spending £13 million on players, I had to adjust our budget slightly to pay the salaries of four loan signings. Jeremie Boga of Chelsea is a promising French talent, but I wanted to get a feel for his ability before spending to buy. And Kingsley Coman was with us for part of last season, but I don't think Juventus realise they let go of a shining talent in Marzouk, because they gave us Coman for the season as well. Mouez Hassen came from Nice to be our reserve goalkeeper, while Monaco agreed to loan us Yarouba Cissako as a goodwill gesture after we didn't charge them big for Knockaert.

We also welcomed Frederic Sammaritano, who joins us on free transfer after winding up his contract with second-division outfit Auxerre, the same club that produced the likes of Bacary Sagna and Yaya Sanogo. The winger is closer to the end of his career, so I doubt he'll have the same scope of growth, but he'll be a useful squad player. For me, the most exciting addition to our squad is our young academy graduate, Marco Mazzotta. The young lad is a promising midfielder who operates best in the centre of the park, slightly deeper than his cousin Danilo Cataldi. I followed Marco's progress for the U-18 side throughout last season, and I was impressed enough by what I saw to give him a three-year professional contract despite his being just 16. I said at the start of my time here that I wanted to make good use of this great academy, which has produced players like Claude Makelele and Jeremy Toulalan, so it feels great to bring Marco to train with the first team. I'll have to make sure I manage him well.

Formation & Tactics

It's pretty much a given, but this team has been built around Danilo Cataldi, who is one of the most promising players in my squad. I'm going for a narrow 4-4-2 diamond with Dani as the advanced playmaker, and two quick but sturdy forwards in Serge Gakpe and Younes Marzouk should give him plenty of opportunities to both feed and score. Behind him will be two versatile, hardworking midfielders. Lucas Deaux starts (when fit) alongside Ibrahim Ghaleb, with Jordan Veretout as the anchor at the base of midfield. Four of my back five are unchanged from last season. Remy Riou starts in goal, with Papiss Djilobodji and Lindsay Rose shielding him. Olivier Veigneau captains from the left of defence, while Djibirl Sidibe on the right is the only new face. The bench will be chosen based on the opponents and our approach to individual games.

Call me old-fashioned, but I like my defensive players to focus on defending, and that includes the full backs in this 4-4-2 diamond. Width is a must, but we'll get that from other players, namely the two central midfielders and Serge, who I've instructed drift out wide, hopefully dragging his marker with him. Dani also has license to move into positions away from the middle of the park, which provides ample width in the final third to stretch the opposition. Jordan will be expected to screen the defence, which doesn't mean that he can't play further up the pitch; he just has to make sure he does not overlap with teammates ahead of him, leaving us exposed on counter-attacks.

We'll be moving the ball around slowly, with short and quick passes. Rather than try to barge our way up to the final third, we'll keep possession in midfield, luring opposition players forward before springing our own trap. Once enough of the other team's men are sufficiently in our half, we spring the ball up to Dani, who will try to find one of our forwards making a run in behind the opposition defence. Speaking of defence, our own back four will sit deep, though anyone foolish enough to get too close to them will be on the receiving end of some intense pressure. Ideally, this is only a contingency, and we should be able to recover the ball in midfield through numbers and energy. The plan already worked brilliantly against Lazio, so I'm looking forward to this season!

Serge Gakpe

A lot of offers came in from clubs like Sevilla and Galatasaray, but Serge decided that staying with us would be more beneficial than moving to a slightly more prestigious club. The only offer to turn his head was from Benfica, but the Portuguese champions refused to go a penny over £8.5 million, which is well below the £12 million for which we were prepared to part with our star player. Instead, Serge will play this season as a striker, where his pace and shooting will be useful in helping Younes Marzouk settle in.

Papiss Djilobodji

After deciding mid-season that he wanted to leave in the summer, Papy had a change of heart that we could not overlook. The giant Senegalese sent me an honest message apologising for his behaviour, asking me to consider keeping him on. I asked him to get the support of his captain and teammates, who were more than happy to have a player of his quality stay on. However, we all told Papy that he would need to be more careful in the future about who he associates with, especially if they're going to be in charge of his professional and personal affairs. There was no dicing of words; another problem like this, and he would be off. Papy promised to exercise greater discretion.

Jordan Veretout

Jordan is a local hero. He was born and raised close to the city of Nantes, coming up through the academy and into the first team. We have absolutely no intention of selling him to the likes of Marseille, whose audacious offer of £9 million was quickly turned down. Because of his standing among fans and love for the club, I've decided to make Jordan vice-captain. Everyone is eager to watch him assume responsibility with conviction and passion, and seeing him become one of France's world-class lads.

Danilo Cataldi

Can you imagine getting a call for Jurgen Klopp asking if we would accept £8 million for Dani? When I said it was out of the question, he offered £12 million. When I said no again, he made it £15 million. This kid is already such a good player, but he's going to be one of the world's best a few years from now. The transformation I've seen has been remarkable. After such a poor start to life in France, he's really turned things around, and I expect him to do amazing things on this season. How exciting!

Anthony Knockaert

What can I say about Anthony? There's really been nothing to complain about. Even if he has a tendency to give the ball away in the final third, the kid gave us a very decent goal return for a winger. For some reason, he just never really felt like working out for us. Monaco weren't willing to take too big a risk on him despite making £50 million from the Falcao sale, but we didn't want to hold the kid back, so I agreed to part with him cheaply. He's a good player, so I hope he enjoys himself at his new club.

Marseille

We're looking forward to opening our season against such a prestigious opponent. I think we managed to score six or seven goals against them last season, and I'd love to grab another few in this game. Lucas Deaux and Fernando Aristeguieta are still out with injuries, though Nando should be back in training towards the end of the month, which is a huge boost for us in attack. I love a good selection headache, and there's nothing better than struggling to pick which of your in-form strikers should start!

Zulte-Waregem

We're up against one of Belgium's finest teams, who we need to beat over two legs if we want to compete in the group stages of the Europa League. I'm looking forward to seeing how my players handle their first taste of European football at this club, and if the past season is anything to go by, we should be up against three other teams come September. We'll need to be careful, though. Underestimating this team would be the most disastrous way to end our chances of a European campaign before it starts.

Youth Academy

Alexi Aguilar: 52-58 OVR/71-79 POT
Alexi is the most athletic of France's young centre back prospects, but that may not be enough. He's still just 15, so time is on his side. I think he will make it next year.

Toifilou Cioni: 55-59 OVR/73-79 POT
The jury is still out on Toifilou. He's got the pace and power we expect of a winger, but his technical skills and stamina leave a lot to be desired. We'll wait on this one.

Julien N'Sikulu: 41-49 OVR/72-86 POT
A very strong centre back in the mould of Papiss Djilobodji, Julien has all the tools needed to succeed at the top. He's only 15, so it'll be a while before he graduates.

Paul Perez: 58-64 OVR/77-85 POT
Paul is physically imposing but athletic; he plays best in attacking midfield. We hope to promote him to the first team in summer 2016, by which time he should be 17.

Not really very big on India results. I don't have much invested in it. More concerened about the state of the ECB, especially with how they got rid of Pietersen but kept a joker like Cook in charge.

"We have finally done it! It took a year and a half but Man United and I have finally one competition! It felt great to face our big rivals in the final and I'm very happy about how the game went. We played like a real team and controlled the game. City didn't have a single shot in the game. We had some chances in the first 90 minutes but we didn't take them. I was sure that we would score in extra time and when it happened five minutes after the beginning I felt amazingly. Ten minutes later Karim got his brace from a good pass by Sterling which made the evening even better. One down, three to go."

Player of the Month

Karim Benzema

The dangerous and in-form attacker scored a double hattrick in one game and he decided the cup final, shouldn't that be enough to be chosen as the player of the month? And if it wasn't enough Benzema netted six more goals which brings his total amount of goals in February to an unbelievable twelve goals.

Karim Benzema

Benzema was the player of the month which means that he had a very good month and that leads to him being first in the 'hot' category. Twelve goals in six appearances is a terrific tally. The French striker still continues to perform amazingly and be the biggest and most important attacking player of the team.

Sergio Ramos

The Spanish defender is a player who does well even when he is having a bad day. He tackles, marks his man, intercepts passes, clears the ball and heads the ball. Ramos is simply a complete defender and he has been important at the back.

Raheem Sterling

This youngster broke into the starting eleven right after he was signed in the summer and he is the reason behind Angel Di Maria spending a lot of time on the bench. Sterling is pacy, skillful, talented and he has an eye for goal. Usually it's hard to reach a top level after a long injury but Sterling has been a better player after his injury.

Thibaut Courtois

February is a month that Man United's star keeper Tibaut Courtois will want to forget. He got benched in a few games and the climax was the game against Schalke in which he got substituted off only twenty minutes into the game. The Belgian 24-year-old didn't make almost any saves and he needs to find his form quickly.

James McCarthy

James McCarthy, who was meant to be the new Roy Keane, has been struggling a lot lately. The Irish holding midfielder started four games in February and he failed to shine in any of them. McCarthy often forgot to mark his man and he attacked too much leaving space behind.

Javier Hernandez

Javier Hernandez, also known as Chicharito, had a very successful season in the 2015-16 campaign but this season he hasn't been as good. The Mexican attacker doesn't get involved too much and he hasn't gotten that many assists and goals lately.

Ajeti returns the ball to Appiah and because of his pace; there are no defenders next to him. Only two minutes after coming on for Flannigan, Eastmond collects the ball from Ajeti’s pass and skips past to challenges. Eastmond is one-on-one with the goalkeeper and leaves it a little late but he just manages to poke the ball under the goalkeeper to give Exeter City a lifeline.

Ajeti receives the ball on the half-way line, spins and slots the ball into the path of Ollie Watkins who has only been on the pitch for two minutes! Ollie beats the last defender for pace and he coolly puts the ball into the bottom corner past the sprawling goalkeeper.

Craig Eastmond makes a spectacular sliding tackle to win the ball back in the midfield. The ball goes to Cowan-Hall who sprints down the wing and he manages to deliver a cross along the ground to the back post where slides in to poke the ball into the net.

Sercombe picks out a great ball to the left where Appiah collects and turns inside. Jordan Clark runs straight into Appiah and also gives him a forceful push. Appiah goes down in the box and it’s a penalty. Sinclair takes the penalty. He goes left and he clips the inside of the post before the ball goes over the line. Exeter City are winning the battle of the promoted teams at the moment.

The ball is passed back to Callum Burton who takes an awful touch, allowing the pressing Liam Sercombe to slide in and poke the ball past the goalkeeper and across the line.

Discussion time! I thought about this earlier today and I think it's an interesting question. How did you find this thread and why did you join it? My story is pretty simple: I was looking for teams to use in career mode and this thread appeared in Google search. It sounded interesting so I decided to check it out and I liked it so I signed

up. You know the rest.

Yeah I decided that Ki/Canas will do fine until the summer. I'm playing a 4-4-2 Narrow Diamond so I only need one CDM. I also moved Dyer to CAM and he's been terrific. Montero has played there too for a game and he did very good as well. I plan to play Redmond in that role too. I got Redmond because I came across him and thought he'd be a good replacement for Routledge (Who was 30!) He was a steal I think and I offloaded Routledge in the process. Very bad for Ings.

Emmes has been great in his absence though!

I found this thread pretty similarly to you, I was looking up teams for a Career Mode (because I couldn't stick with one!) and this popped up. I read it and liked so I decided to post mine too!

Call me old-fashioned, but I like my defensive players to focus on defending, and that includes the full backs in this 4-4-2 diamond. Width is a must, but we'll get that from other players, namely the two central midfielders and Serge, who I've instructed drift out wide, hopefully dragging his marker with him. Dani also has license to move into positions away from the middle of the park, which provides ample width in the final third to stretch the opposition. Jordan will be expected to screen the defence, which doesn't mean that he can't play further up the pitch; he just has to make sure he does not overlap with teammates ahead of him, leaving us exposed on counter-attacks.

We'll be moving the ball around slowly, with short and quick passes. Rather than try to barge our way up to the final third, we'll keep possession in midfield, luring opposition players forward before springing our own trap. Once enough of the other team's men are sufficiently in our half, we spring the ball up to Dani, who will try to find one of our forwards making a run in behind the opposition defence. Speaking of defence, our own back four will sit deep, though anyone foolish enough to get too close to them will be on the receiving end of some intense pressure. Ideally, this is only a contingency, and we should be able to recover the ball in midfield through numbers and energy. The plan already worked brilliantly against Lazio, so I'm looking forward to this season!

Serge Gakpe

A lot of offers came in from clubs like Sevilla and Galatasaray, but Serge decided that staying with us would be more beneficial than moving to a slightly more prestigious club. The only offer to turn his head was from Benfica, but the Portuguese champions refused to go a penny over £8.5 million, which is well below the £12 million for which we were prepared to part with our star player. Instead, Serge will play this season as a striker, where his pace and shooting will be useful in helping Younes Marzouk settle in.

Papiss Djilobodji

After deciding mid-season that he wanted to leave in the summer, Papy had a change of heart that we could not overlook. The giant Senegalese sent me an honest message apologising for his behaviour, asking me to consider keeping him on. I asked him to get the support of his captain and teammates, who were more than happy to have a player of his quality stay on. However, we all told Papy that he would need to be more careful in the future about who he associates with, especially if they're going to be in charge of his professional and personal affairs. There was no dicing of words; another problem like this, and he would be off. Papy promised to exercise greater discretion.

Jordan Veretout

Jordan is a local hero. He was born and raised close to the city of Nantes, coming up through the academy and into the first team. We have absolutely no intention of selling him to the likes of Marseille, whose audacious offer of £9 million was quickly turned down. Because of his standing among fans and love for the club, I've decided to make Jordan vice-captain. Everyone is eager to watch him assume responsibility with conviction and passion, and seeing him become one of France's world-class lads.

Danilo Cataldi

Can you imagine getting a call for Jurgen Klopp asking if we would accept £8 million for Dani? When I said it was out of the question, he offered £12 million. When I said no again, he made it £15 million. This kid is already such a good player, but he's going to be one of the world's best a few years from now. The transformation I've seen has been remarkable. After such a poor start to life in France, he's really turned things around, and I expect him to do amazing things on this season. How exciting!

Anthony Knockaert

What can I say about Anthony? There's really been nothing to complain about. Even if he has a tendency to give the ball away in the final third, the kid gave us a very decent goal return for a winger. For some reason, he just never really felt like working out for us. Monaco weren't willing to take too big a risk on him despite making £50 million from the Falcao sale, but we didn't want to hold the kid back, so I agreed to part with him cheaply. He's a good player, so I hope he enjoys himself at his new club.

Marseille

We're looking forward to opening our season against such a prestigious opponent. I think we managed to score six or seven goals against them last season, and I'd love to grab another few in this game. Lucas Deaux and Fernando Aristeguieta are still out with injuries, though Nando should be back in training towards the end of the month, which is a huge boost for us in attack. I love a good selection headache, and there's nothing better than struggling to pick which of your in-form strikers should start!

Zulte-Waregem

We're up against one of Belgium's finest teams, who we need to beat over two legs if we want to compete in the group stages of the Europa League. I'm looking forward to seeing how my players handle their first taste of European football at this club, and if the past season is anything to go by, we should be up against three other teams come September. We'll need to be careful, though. Underestimating this team would be the most disastrous way to end our chances of a European campaign before it starts.

Youth Academy

Alexi Aguilar: 52-58 OVR/71-79 POT
Alexi is the most athletic of France's young centre back prospects, but that may not be enough. He's still just 15, so time is on his side. I think he will make it next year.

Toifilou Cioni: 55-59 OVR/73-79 POT
The jury is still out on Toifilou. He's got the pace and power we expect of a winger, but his technical skills and stamina leave a lot to be desired. We'll wait on this one.

Julien N'Sikulu: 41-49 OVR/72-86 POT
A very strong centre back in the mould of Papiss Djilobodji, Julien has all the tools needed to succeed at the top. He's only 15, so it'll be a while before he graduates.

Paul Perez: 58-64 OVR/77-85 POT
Paul is physically imposing but athletic; he plays best in attacking midfield. We hope to promote him to the first team in summer 2016, by which time he should be 17.

"We have finally done it! It took a year and a half but Man United and I have finally one competition! It felt great to face our big rivals in the final and I'm very happy about how the game went. We played like a real team and controlled the game. City didn't have a single shot in the game. We had some chances in the first 90 minutes but we didn't take them. I was sure that we would score in extra time and when it happened five minutes after the beginning I felt amazingly. Ten minutes later Karim got his brace from a good pass by Sterling which made the evening even better. One down, three to go."

The dangerous and in-form attacker scored a double hattrick in one game and he decided the cup final, shouldn't that be enough to be chosen as the player of the month? And if it wasn't enough Benzema netted six more goals which brings his total amount of goals in February to an unbelievable twelve goals.

Benzema was the player of the month which means that he had a very good month and that leads to him being first in the 'hot' category. Twelve goals in six appearances is a terrific tally. The French striker still continues to perform amazingly and be the biggest and most important attacking player of the team.

Sergio Ramos

The Spanish defender is a player who does well even when he is having a bad day. He tackles, marks his man, intercepts passes, clears the ball and heads the ball. Ramos is simply a complete defender and he has been important at the back.

Raheem Sterling

This youngster broke into the starting eleven right after he was signed in the summer and he is the reason behind Angel Di Maria spending a lot of time on the bench. Sterling is pacy, skillful, talented and he has an eye for goal. Usually it's hard to reach a top level after a long injury but Sterling has been a better player after his injury.

Thibaut Courtois

February is a month that Man United's star keeper Tibaut Courtois will want to forget. He got benched in a few games and the climax was the game against Schalke in which he got substituted off only twenty minutes into the game. The Belgian 24-year-old didn't make almost any saves and he needs to find his form quickly.

James McCarthy

James McCarthy, who was meant to be the new Roy Keane, has been struggling a lot lately. The Irish holding midfielder started four games in February and he failed to shine in any of them. McCarthy often forgot to mark his man and he attacked too much leaving space behind.

Javier Hernandez

Javier Hernandez, also known as Chicharito, had a very successful season in the 2015-16 campaign but this season he hasn't been as good. The Mexican attacker doesn't get involved too much and he hasn't gotten that many assists and goals lately.

Craig Woodman wins the ball on the half-way line and picks out an amazing pass for Jake Sinclair on the right. Sinclair just keeps the ball going out of play and the goalkeeper rushes out. Sinclair crosses into the middle where Ajeti nods home. A truly amazing pass by Woodman there!

Exeter City threaten early on in the match and Ajeti sprints down the left to cross into Cummins but the defender, Jonathan Hogg, collides into Cummins and is brought down. The referee thinks it’s a penalty. Craig Woodman takes the penalty and puts it into the top right corner. The goalkeeper goes the right way but just can’t get a hand to it.

EXE – Ajeti (34’)

Appiah receives the ball on the left and uses his pace to get some distance between him and the defenders. Appiah drifts into the middle and shoots with his left foot and it hits the post of the inside corner of the goal. The goalkeeper is left helpless as he watches the rebound fall to the head of Ajeti who puts the ball into an empty net.

EXE – Cummins (44’)

Flannigan gets the ball on the edge of the box and passes it to Cummins who dribbles past the whole defence before smashing it past Alex Smithies. This just seems too easy for Exeter...

EXE - Appiah (80’)

Appiah receives the ball on the half-way line by Woodman. Appiah instantly passes to Ajeti and sprints down the wing. Ajeti returns the ball to Appiah and because of his pace; there are no defenders next to him. Appiah drifts into the box and cuts inside before bending the ball around the goalkeeper and into the net. A great goal by Appiah there!

Florent Cuvelier slots the ball into James Wallace, who rolls the ball to Stefan Scougall who out paces Butterfield and Inniss to smash the ball past Mabil.

Michael Higdon receives the ball on the left of the penalty area where he delivers a low cross into the corridor of uncertainty. James Wallace sticks out his foot and manages to poke the ball into the net.

EXE –Eastmond (52’)

Only two minutes after coming on for Flannigan, Eastmond collects the ball from Ajeti’s pass and skips past to challenges. Eastmond is one-on-one with the goalkeeper and leaves it a little late but he just manages to poke the ball under the goalkeeper to give Exeter City a lifeline.

EXE – Watkins (61’)

Ajeti receives the ball on the half-way line, spins and slots the ball into the path of Ollie Watkins who has only been on the pitch for two minutes! Ollie beats the last defender for pace and he coolly puts the ball into the bottom corner past the sprawling goalkeeper.

EXE –Ajeti (84’)

Craig Eastmond makes a spectacular sliding tackle to win the ball back in the midfield. The ball goes to Cowan-Hall who sprints down the wing and he manages to deliver a cross along the ground to the back post where slides in to poke the ball into the net.

Our Best Performer: Albian Ajeti (Albian got the winning goal and he also set up the other two goals. Credit to Craig Eastmond who changed the whole course of the game when he came on.)

EXE – Sinclair (PEN) (22’)

Sercombe picks out a great ball to the left where Appiah collects and turns inside. Jordan Clark runs straight into Appiah and also gives him a forceful push. Appiah goes down in the box and it’s a penalty. Sinclair takes the penalty. He goes left and he clips the inside of the post before the ball goes over the line. Exeter City are winning the battle of the promoted teams at the moment.

EXE –Sercombe (58’)

The ball is passed back to Callum Burton who takes an awful touch, allowing the pressing Liam Sercombe to slide in and poke the ball past the goalkeeper and across the line.

SHR – Griffith (71’)

James Collins has the ball on the left and delivers a low cross in from the left. The ball goes past the stretching Mabil and Griffiths is at the back post to roll the ball over the line.

Our Best Performer: Liam Sercombe (It was a difficult decision because no one really stood out but Sercombe did rule the midfield and made many challenges.)

What a great finish!

COL – Sears (44’)

Just before half-time Colchester equalise after Marcus Bean plays a lovely ball over the top of the defence to Freddie Sears who smashes past Mabil at his near post.

Our Best Performer: Glen Mabil (Glen has been putting in some amazing performances since joining from the youth squad. He made ten saves that match and was extremely important to the team.)

CAM –Simpson (5’)

Simpson puts Cambridge in the lead against a team in sparkling form. Simpson receives the ball from a clearance and he hits the ball on the volley and the half turn to make the ball dip over Glen Mabil and into the net. A contender for the goal of the cup.

EXE –Sercombe (Two Yellows) (37’)

Sercombe receives his marching orders as he keeps niggling at the heels of every player on the ball.

EXE –Sinclair (PEN) (50’)

Appiah sprints into the middle where a leg trips him and he falls. Sinclair sweeps the ball over the diving goalkeeper for a coolly finished penalty.

EXE – Ajeti (93’)

A cross from Cowan-Hall is cleared by the Cambridge defence. Ajeti receives the ball on the left and manages to cut in and hit the ball into the top of the far corner. Exeter are finally in the lead...

It’s an important early-season game as first go up against second. A throw-in on the left is thrown to Grimes, who flicks the ball into the middle. Eastmond manages to get ahead of a challenge and he pokes the ball to Ollie Watkins on the edge of the area. Ollie turns the defender before smashing the ball into the opposite corner. Ollie is on fire whenever he comes on as a substitute!

Our Best Performer: Glen Mabil (Mabil made seven saves and was our main force in the defence as he is a great sweeper keeper.)

Q: On top of Bennett’s story, there are also rumours that Jamie Reid has declined his new contract.

A: As I said when the Bennett situation came up, it is still early days but yes, he has expressed some concerns about signing a new contract.

Q:I have to mention the Elephant in the room. Why has Graham Cummins gone after having one of the best seasons of his life?

A:I think he deserves first team football and hopefully AJ Auxerre will give him that. I simply won’t be able to give him that now that Albian (Ajeti) and Jake (Sinclair) have come into the team. Also, his expected transfer value is one hundred and thirty thousand pounds and I managed to sell him for four hundred thousand pounds which is a massive bonus.

Q:Did you miss out on any players that you wanted?

A: Only one, hopefully I will be able to get him in January if I can collect enough funds.

Shelvey was taken out late in the box allowing Ki to step up and dispatch from 12 yards. 2 quick fire goals from Emnes and Montero respectively on halftime effectively ended the game for the Black Cats. Montero also set up Emmes' goal. Shelvey proved why so many clubs were after him in January with 2 assists for goals 4 and 5 adding to his tally at the top of the assists leader-board. The first was a corner met by Bartley, in a rare start for him, and the second was a through ball behind the center halves for Redmond to finish in off the post for his first goal in just his 2nd game, both off the bench. Things are looking up as we hope to keep the pressure on Stoke, who have 2 games in hand behind us, to not drop any points in their spare games.

Fabianski saved 2 early penalties from Varela but Gardner opened the scoring on the half hour mark with a close range header. A Carroll corner dropped to Bartley whose shot deflected into the path of Emnes giving him the chance to flick it over Foster. 3 minutes later Emnes put Dyer through to give us a halftime lead. Sessegnon grabbed a point for West Brom with his strike in the 68th minute.

A game we needed to win. Dyer scored inside 10 minutes when Shelvey played him in down the side of the box. He cut inside and finished with his left foot. Dyer turned provider this time when he passed to Emnes who was halfway between the edge of the box and the penalty spot. He took one touch and curled it into the corner. The rest of the game was fairly straightforward for us.

Player of the Month

Marvin Emnes

The Dutch striker capitalized on Danny Ings' absence performing brilliantly scoring 3 goals and assisting 1 during the month. Dyer also was in with a shout with 2 goals and an assist.
