First off, yes Mexico is very much coo-coo. Especially the people running their football. And second, wtf! I don't see why they would fire you if you made it to the playoffs in both league tournaments. I'm sure your objectives were something like "avoid a bottom of the table finish" or something like that since it's Dorados. And by the way it's remarkable you were able to achieve that much with that club. This year they managed to secure relegation well before the season was over. Plus with half their squad being loanees I bet the transfer window was tough for you. Sorry I wasn't able to give you a heads up about the Libertadores. If you're in the top 4 of the Apertura you qualify and the tournament starts after the Clausura transfer window with zero notification. I have my fingers crossed that EA will fix that on 17 and of course make some very much needed additions to the tournament. How many seasons were you at Sinaloa?

Cabee - You actually did it, my god. I thought it would be harder, but you made it look so simple. I like the "Favorite XI" post, but it did bother me instantly to see Compton at LB, haha! Looking forward to seeing you continue at a different club.

Tbh, I really did think I was going to have to fight for it a bit more. In all honesty, I think we switched off half way through the season just to save our breath for the Champions League games! I reckon if I gave this team to someone whose never played as them before, they'd be able to win the treble! As the season progressed I knew I should go elsewhere or the dominance was just going to bore me out of the save I i tried to keep going.

I can't believe that you actually kept going for so long and did so many great things with Exeter! Nine seasons, my God! I have to say, for me personally this journey was one of the best careers this thread has ever seen! Chico's Wimbledon career and Rabbit's Dagenham and Alcorcon careers are also up there. All of those careers were very long and passionate. Once again, magnificent job! Going through your best XI made me realise how huge the career actually was. Good luck with whoever you end up choosing! I'm looking forward to your new team but I'm also sad about the end of the Exter dynasty.

JHedges - Nooo! Everton beat you in the derby!! I'd be so fustrated after hitting the bar soo many times as well! You did manage a couple more wins afterwards although it looks like you're struggling a tad bit for peformances from the lads. The win over Chelsea was impressive (I wish I could've done that more in my career!) although the stats went in favour of them a little!

Tex - Hmmm, not the most consistent set of results i've seen but they're still looking promising. It'd be great to see if you'll be able to avoid relegation if you manage to get promoted this season! You have a lot of difficult teams to face with the likes of Bournemouth, Leicester, QPR, Watford and Middlesbrough to fight against wwhich is going to make this season an interesting one, that's for sure!

It wasn't really a great month for anyone, as Amkar Perm lost 2 of 3 matches in August and only scored 1 goal. That goal did come in a surprising 1-0 defeat of Spartak Moscow when Amkar icon Georgi Peev converted a penalty in the 52nd minute. Peev also earned a call-up to the Bulgarian National Team for the upcoming international break.

Manager's Thoughts
Quite a rough start to the season as we're sitting in 12th place one month into the campaign. I was pretty disappointed in losing to Krylya Sovetov Samara as they are not really a strong club at all. The win over Spartak Moscow was an amazing result, but we couldn't ride the momentum into the match against Dinamo Moscow. We've got to start converting chances as we have created a decent amount of opportunities, but our finishing has been very poor as evidence by 1 goal in 3 contests.

Gol Out 7 Months
Not helping matters is an injury to Janusz Gol in the preseason that saw the 29-year-old Polish midfielder tear his ACL and get sidelined for 7 months. Gol had been slotted into the Starting XI, but now that responsibility will go to Branko Jovicic, a 22-year-old Serb, who will be hungry to make a name for himself with this opportunity.

Our slow start is not helped out by an absolutely brutal month of September. Rubin Kazan, Lokomotiv Moscow, and CSKA Moscow are all very strong sides - CSKA is top of the table and has yet to concede a goal. Any kind of result in the league matches will be positive, and as for the Russian Cup, it's not a huge priority at the moment. The weakest side we play is Anzhi Makhachkala, but they still have a good amount of talent with players like Hugo Almeida and Ilya Maximov. If we are going to grab 3 points from a match though, this is our best shot.

Trabzonspor is currently the best team in the Süper Lig and a big reason for that is that they boast the best defense in the league led by one of the best Turkish goalkeepers in Onur Kıvrak. Therefore it's not a surprise that Kıvrak helped his defense once again earn a clean sheet against us, the second-highest scoring team in the Süper Lig (behind Trabzonspor), as we shot 5 times (3 on target).

Disappointing result for the same reason winning the previous game was so pleasing: it came against a team out of contention. It's concerning that we continue to be so inconsistent so late into the season and I won't use the switch in formation as an excuse. We were flat out outplayed too, it wasn't a fluke loss, as we were only able to take 4 shots (2 on target) compared to Rizespor's 11 (8 on target).

Another 2-0 victory following a defeat so at least we're not losing consistently (silver-lining). Without a doubt the highlight of the game for me was Alonso scoring off a corner kick which isn't a strong part of his game but is something I want to focus his training on in the future to make him the complete CB he's destined to be.

Abdulaziz Demircan named Player of the Month for February after allowing just two goals in four games.

Full disclosure, Peñaranda has really underwhelmed in his first couple of months at the club and it hasn't helped that his poor form has coincided with our inconsistent performances. I'm not saying there's a connection between both but I certainly feel we could have used some contributions from him earlier as he wasn't even getting assists in. But as the scorers' table shows his goal sparked a turn-around for us against our rivals to sweep the season series against them, so it was a timely showing by the Venezuelan youngster.

Ok so maybe we did need Peñaranda to step up in order to play up to our potential. Review: Geez how many times did I say "inconsistent" in this update? That's the theme obviously. In the grand scheme of things we remain in 4th place but with just six games left in the season we're all but mathematically out of the running for a league title. We probably did cost ourselves a spot in the Champions League next season but that would had been far overachieving and I think we would had been exposed in that competition because we don't have the roster for it yet. We remain in good position to be in Europe League next season which has been my goal all along (and now the board's expectations as I committed to it in an attempt to gain additional funds to negotiate a new contract for Çağlayan). Hopefully we can maintain the form we had to close out March to solidify our spot in EL next season, and maybe even steal that 3rd place so we can get directly to the group stage instead of the qualifying round.

I'm a bit disappointed with the scout reports from from Romania/Venezuela/Serbia as they haven't provided us with very good prospects to add to the academy. I've tried to remain selective and as a result there have only been a couple of additions to the youth academy.

- Argus Gianakos (CAM, 65 OVR, 87-94 POT): 16-year old prospect from Greece who is unanimously our top prospect in the academy. Described as a playmaker, he's a very good passer for such a young age.
- Emre Karaer (CB, 60 OVR, 81-87): 15-year old from Turkey who is Physically Strong and displays excellent aggression (80) to the ball. We're excited about his development.
- Athanasios Niarkhos (LM, 58 OVR, 82-88): 17-year old from Greece with good agility (Technically Gifted). Doesn't possess the speed we desire for the position but we're hopeful that will come as he continues to grow.
- Dragen Rennich (LW, 58 OVR, 77-83): 16-year old from Croatia with good accelaration (79) and balance (75). We expect a little growth from his current frame of 5'1" and 139lbs.
- Fabian Lopez (RB, 53 OVR, 70-90)*: 16-year old from Venezuela who needs a lot of development. Doesn't possess the desired pace for the position at this point in time but hopefully he'll develop that.
- Javier Fernandez (LW, 52 OVR, 68-88)*: 17-year old from Venezuela with a good combination of acceleration (79) and speed (70) that will hopefully continue to grow. Good competition for Niarkhos and Rennich in the academy.
- Burak Karabulut (RB, 58 OVR, 72-78): 17-year old from Turkey who is physically strong (aggression 75, strength 74). Peaking at 6'1" and 165lbs he could also be a prospect at CB.
* Recent addition

17-year old Selim Özçal, a CB from Turkey, requested and was granted promotion to the senior squad. He's showing great potential.

Lastly a quick update with the Venezuelan NT. We played friendlies at Mexico (L 2-3) and vs Colombia (L 1-3) and obviously did not perform well. Not the best tune-up in our last friendlies before the World Cup and hopefully that isn't a sign of things to come in our debut in the big stage.

The only saving grace was that even after this we remained ahead of Galatasaray in the standings.

It was good to bounce back from that embarrassing victory with a solid win at home. We were the better team from throughout the game.

This was a tightly-disputed contest in which each team created a handful of scoring opportunities but neither presented a real scoring threat. Then the 81st minute came and Şahiner committed an erroneous sliding tackle as the last man on defense, earning him a straight red card and setting the table for Diego Biseswar to do this:

Deniz Türüç took it upon himself to brake down a Mersin defense that had been stingy all game long and finally broke them in the 77th minute when his cross to the right inside the box for Yakubu deflected off of Mitrović and into the net for a score. Yakubu would then find Türüç on a counterattack for the dagger to clinch a 4th place finish for us this season!

Unlike us, Başakşehir had a lot to play for and it showed in their urgency. They outshot us 11 to 3 (4 to 1 on goal) and earned this victory which allowed them to jump Galatasaray in the standings.

Review: That wraps up a successful first season here in Turkey. We achieved more than the board expected us to and are into the qualifying round of the Euro League next season. I'm proud of the fact we stayed inside the top-5 in the standings from wire to wire even if our form was really inconsistent throughout the season. We'll look to improve our roster this season and improve our form next season when we'll be faced with two competitions at the same time. As some of you have already pointed out Deniz Türüç was unbelievable for us this season but I will save my comments on specific players for the roster review. Outside of us, the most notable outcome from the end of the season is the fact that Trabzonspor chocked the title away - they had the lead for a few months before succumbing to pressure at the end. It's also worth noting that a lot of the races in the leagues around Europe were very tight and didn't get sorted out till the very end. Very exciting football here in Europe.

I'm going to save the academy update for the roster review post and I'll also make a separate post about the World Cup with Venezuela. Thanks for reading
