Nah, he misread the situation. I had Gerrard shortlisted, but his wages were too high for me in the end.

          Hellas Verona

          February 2016

          Semi Final, 1st leg
          Juventus 1 - 1 Hellas Verona
          Rafinha 14'
          Dybala 90'

"This wasn't our best performance but Juventus is the best team in the country and a draw against them is a very good result. Their goal came from poor defending but other than that our whole team did well. We will do our best in the second leg and we will concentrate on our own game."

          Hellas Verona 1 - 1 Juventus
          Bernardeschi 30'
          Tevez 73'
"Another good performace by us against the mighty *cough* and corrupted *cough* Juventus. Unfortunately we didn't create that many chances and our defending was bad in the corner kick from which Tevez scored. The boys still did a good job on the pitch."

          Sampdoria 1 - 2 Hellas Verona
          Gabbiadini 49'
          Choupo-Moting 31', Dybala 90'

"We didn't play that well today and the scoreline shows it. Luckily we were able to get the winner in stoppage time. Eric (Choupo-Moting) and Paulo (Dybala) had a good game in attack."

          Round of 32, 1st leg
          Hellas Verona 2 - 1 Hamburger SV
          Choupo-Moting 76', 79'
          Behrami 31'

"Both teams were good tonight but I think we were slightly better. HSV defended well in the whole game but Eric's (Choupo-Moting) amazing three minutes at the end of the game were enough to secure the win. Now we need to prepare for the second leg in Germany."

          Hellas Verona 0 - 1 Bologna
          Bianchi 37'

          Simulated.

          Round of 32, 2nd leg
          Hamburger SV (1) 0 - 2 (4) Hellas Verona
          Dybala 21' pen, Choupo-Moting 45'

"And we are through to the round of 16! Hamburger didn't have many chances and we controlled the game. At the end two goals from our strikers were enough to secure the victory."

          Genoa 1 - 1 Hellas Verona
          Lestienne 26'
          Milik 71'

          Player of the Month

          Eric Choupo-Moting

The January signing Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting picked his first player of the month award after a successful month in February. The Cameroonian attacker scored four goals for Hellas Verona and he played well in attack. Choupo-Moting has now scored six goals in six appearances for Verona.

          Hot or Not

          Hot

          Eric Choupo-Moting

He was the player of the month and had some very good performances.

          Paulo Dybala

The second starting striker of the team had a good month as well. He scored three important goals and every goal he scored was a game-deciding goal.

No-one else had that good of a month.

          Not

No-one had that bad of a month.

          Serie A Table

          1. Hellas Verona, 57 pts
          2. Juventus, 55 pts
          3. Napoli, 51 pts

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

            The Wednesday: September '15

            September 12, Hillsborough Stadium
            Barclays PL: Matchday 4

            SHW 1-0 LEI

Sheffield Wednesday picked up a fourth consecutive win to maintain their 100% record, putting Leicester City to the sword for the better part of 90 minutes. Stevie May scored the only goal of the game, getting into space before smashing in Caolan Lavery's low cross. Leicester failed to place a single one of their 12 shots on target, leaving Keiren Westwood with precious little to do.

"We had a fantastic game today, and I mean every last one of us. The effort was there from Leicester, but it just wasn't enough. Coming into the Premier League, I knew I was bringing a good team to compete, but even we never thought we'd be able to pick up four wins to start the season. We're the first ones who recognise that this won't last, so we just want to enjoy it while it does."

            September 19, Britannia Stadium
            Barclays PL: Matchday 5

            STK 3-0 SHW

Sheffield Wednesday's trip to the Britannia resulted in their first loss, while Stoke picked up their third straight win. Marko Arnautovic scored in the third minute, and Mame Biram Diouf added a second 40 minutes later. The Senegalese scored his second and Stoke's third soon after the start of the second half, and Josh Meekings was at fault for all three, allowing Stoke's forwards too much space. Steven N'Zonzi was sent off in injury time for a second booking.

"We knew this would come at some point. There are few positives to take from this game. Much of our play was rushed, and we didn't look confident enough. The early goal hit us hard, yet we pushed back for a while, but maybe going two down took the wind out of our sails. I think perhaps we were a bit intimidated by the magnitude of the moment. That's something we will have to endure and learn from as a team."

            September 22, Hillsborough Stadium
            Capital One Cup: Round 3

            SHW 0-4 BOU

Indi Blue chose the wrong day to test an experimental 3-4-3 formation, causing Sheffield Wednesday to crash out of the Capital One Cup at the first hurdle. Tokelo Rantie scored in the fourth minute before setting up both Matt Ritchie and Callum Wilson to make it 3-0 before the break. Summer signing Martin Paterson, formerly of Huddersfield Town, added the visitors' fourth in injury time, leaving Wednesday shocked and confused.

"It's one of those games where you look back and see that everything was wrong from the start. I need to take the blame today, because a cup game is not the time to be messing about with tactical experiments. We set out to have a good cup run, and today's result means it'll have to come in the FA Cup later in the season. All said and done, Bournemouth took their chances with both hands, so they have to be congratulated."

            September 25, Boleyn Ground
            Barclays PL: Matchday 6

            WHU 4-1 SHW

Andy Carroll headed in Aaron Cresswell's cross to give West Ham an early lead, and Ravel Morrison's deft shot from the edge of the box made it 2-0 going into the break. Stevie May gave Sheffield Wednesday some hope early on in the second half, controlling Rhys McCabe's cross with his chest before sending a rocket past new signing Geronimo Rulli. With 74 minutes gone, Mauro Zarate dented those hopes, and Carroll's bullet sealed the win six minutes later.

"Questions have to be asked. Answers need to be found. We went back to the diamond that served us well from Newcastle until Leicester. It's never easy coming to West Ham and leaving with something, but the way we lost today isn't easy to accept. Spirit and fight were lacking, and even though our shooting failed us, we should have kept things tight at the back. The next game is going to be crucial, because going into three straight losses in one competition isn't easy to break out of."

            October Preview

We started well with a tight win over Leicester before things got a bit more even-handed in the league, as we suffered big losses to two of the most formidable sides in the division. Thankfully, both were away games, so we have a chance to put things right later on in the season when they come calling at Hillsborough. We're also out of the cup thanks to a shocker, which leaves us free to focus all our energies on the league.

October sees us host Norwich City in the month's first game, offering us a chance to put the losing streak to bed before it picks up steam. We then travel to the Etihad, where an in-form Manchester City will put us to the test after strengthening this summer. Aaron Ramsey, Christian Benteke, Javi Martinez, Dries Mertens and Gonzalo Higuain all joined for a combined expenditure of well over £100 million.

Swansea is our third game of the month. We play at home, and despite that, we still go into the match expected by many to lose. That's because Wilfried Bony is in smashing form, having scored 4 goals in 6 league games so far this season. Headed by Keano, Swansea will prove to be a genuine test of whether we can tee up with teams of similar quality and get anything from those games.

The month ends with a trip to White Hart Lane. Tottenham aren't in particularly devastating form, but they have done enough to be in the top four at the cost of Chelsea, who are enduring a bit of a slow start. Christian Eriksen and Nacer Chadli will be dangerous on the wings, and we may need to consider deploying a more conventional 4-2-3-1 to deal with the threat of four attacking players on the flanks.

We expect at least one win and one draw from the four games, and even when we do lose, we have to concede as few goals as possible. Being tight at the back and ensuring that we defend well will be the key points of our October fixtures.

A good month there. 2 draws against Juve isn't bad at all. Good to see you advance to the last 16 in the Europa too. Choupo-Moting and Dybala did well for you this month up top.

Wow a tough month. It all started right against Leicester and then went down hill. Surprising that heavy loss to Bournemouth, revenge from last season I guess. Hopefully you can get a win at Norwich before a tough game against City before facing Bony with Swansea. and lastly Spurs. Gonna be another tough month.

@Simppu Great job to be top of the table, one foot in the door for the cup final as well. EMCM looks like he's been a great signing. How does he play for you? Dribbler? Poacher? Link-up?

@Keano Yep, not a great month, but the cup loss will prove a blessing in disguise. We're already in a great position on the table, so we can now focus on the league. If we can pick up 25 points by January, we can then have a good run in the FA Cup. Already played through October, mind. Without giving away too much, let me say I'm very proud of my boys.

Thanks! I must admit that I don't want to be the leader and I'll simulate a bit more games than usually to drop points so Juve can overtake me. It just doesn't feel right to have that team win the league at this point, you know? Choupo-Moting plays as a dribbler/finisher in the 4-4-2. He's usually at the edge of the box (maybe because of his workrates, I don't know) and I try to get inside the box and shoot. He's good in counter attacks, as well and his strength is very useful.

West Ham United - Episode #43: Who Wants Out?

In this episode, we head to snowy Leicester City for a Capital One Cup tie before leaving to Portugal to take on CD Nacional in our fifth Europa League group stage match. Also, we see some potential rumors about players potentially on their way out in the January transfer window.

My apologies for the Leicester footage, the PVR had some minor issue causing the footage to run slowly.

Not sure if it's the FT Control or the Pass Error, but one of the user sliders is making it so that I can rarely beat anyone with dribbling. Marking is fine; I've played around with that to the point that I'm satisfied.

Or perhaps it's simply because I have a team of mostly Championship-quality players. I should do some testing using big teams in Kick Off. If the players are the cause, I may use a financial takeover in the summer.

It could just be the quality of the players, but also you may just not be used to the FT control depending on how much it changed from what you were using. The first few times I used it it was very harsh, but I've gotten used to it now because it offers a lot of variety in play, but still lets you see who the top dribblers/players are because they will have the best touches (i.e. the Ox, Downing, Valencia for me).

Also, great update COYI!!!! Haha, but all seriousness some very tough results but they were away from home, so not too harsh on yourself. Still sitting strong in the table, and like you said being out of the Cup could be a blessing in disguise to let you get to safety in the league before getting engrossed in the FA Cup. As for the takeover, I'm against it! Only because it always feels like the easy way out, but if you work a storyline in with it then hey, it will definitely be a bonus for you, so fair play any move for you to enjoy your own career mode more is fair game.

If I get another ludicrously low budget i.e. anything short of £10 million, I'll definitely consider the takeover. But you're right. Using it would pretty much guarantee the title in a year or two tops.

We started January against a really tough team that we just beat last time - Southampton. This time we went to St. Mary's Park, and it was a very tough game. The Saints looked really good and moved the ball around nicely, we couldn't stop them. They didn't create any chances that lead to a goal, but McCarthy took down Osvaldo in the box - penalty. Osvaldo himself went to take it and put it straight in the top right corner.

I put in Welbeck and Özil after the goal, so we could create more chances, yet it didn't make much of a difference. Özil wasn't given any space to actually play around with, so we were in a bad situation. And when Rowe got a good pass into the box, Sane was the only one to it and he scored. The game ended 2-0, a loss we deserved, but obviously did not want.

                              Swansea 1-3 Arsenal
                              47' Welbeck (Ramsey)
                              62' Welbeck (Chambers)
                              84' Welbeck (Flamini)
                              90' Ki

Now things were serious. We were really poor our last game, so infront of our home fans, we had to bounce back against Swansea, even if the game was two days after the last one. We looked a lot better early on, as Wilshere got a good chance but hit the post. A few minutes later he got tackled in the box, but no penalty. However, he did get injured, so we had to sub him out for Flamini. We couldn't break through, but in the second half, Ramsey gave a pass to Welbeck who got past the defense and shot it. Khune got his hands to it but it bounced in from the post and gave us the lead.

Danny did not stop there - a through ball by Chambers got him 1-on-1 again and he put it past with ease this time. We looked like a completely different team from last game. I wanted to take out Danny to put in Giroud, but something told me that he wasn't done yet. And when a cross in by Flamini came, he was on it and put a great header past the keeper - hat-trick!

I was hoping to finish with a clean sheet, but a cross in from Montero was fumbled by Szczesny. Ki had an easy shot to take - straight into the open net. However, a 3-1 victory is really good and it was obviously good to bounce back after a loss.

                              Bolton 1-0 Arsenal
                              69' Trotter (Clayton)

So, our first FA Cup game was against Bolton, a team we should beat pretty easily. It was also the debut game of Alderweireld, but things did not go well. We were holding the ball, yet somehow, the chances did not come. Even if we got a shot, it wasn't a good one - the only one that actually was decent was when Cazorla got past the defense and hit the post.

Then, their only chance, they break through in a counter and play a good 1-2 between Trotter and Clayton - Szczesny is nowhere to be found, so Trotter took a shot past everybody and hit it in.

We were down against Bolton, I couldn't believe it, and the way we were playing, we couldn't actually come back to it. The game ended with a 1-0 loss, and just like that, we were out of the cup. I guess the English cups are not meant for us, sadly.

                              9' Gibbs
                              31' Welbeck

After the poor FA Cup game, we had two games left in the month and we had to bounce back in them to be strong in the league. Now, against Norwich, I fielded our strongest side and knew that we had to win it. We looked good early, Welbeck got a shot at goal but it got saved by Ruddy. Norwich did not look bad either as they attacked right after our first shot, luckily, they didn't create anything dangerous.

Then, some good passing from the back and a good overlaping run by Gibbs got him in the box and put it past Ruddy - a very nicely hit volley aswell. We had the momentum just after that, as it didn't take us long to score another one - a usual one for Welbeck, as he scored a header from a cross that got fumbled by Ruddy. Norwich did look like they would bounce back in the second half, yet a red card took them completely out of the game and put us in the drivers seat. The final score was 2-0.

                              Norwich 1-3 Arsenal
                              11' Welbeck (Sanchez)
                              61' Barkley (Baines)

Last game of the month against a team that we dropped points again the previous time we faced them - Everton. Always a tough side, I felt pretty confident going into this game. However, when Lukaku got the first shot of the game and hit the bar, I quickly then realised that even if we were playing at the Emirates, the game was not going to be easy.

We broke through the old fashion way - Sanchez passed the ball to Welbeck, who time and time again, beat his player and put it past Howard. We took a hold of that game, yet Everton kept coming at us. I made a sub during the second half, putting in McCarthy to play more defensively, yet when Baines crossed it into the box, Barkley was the one who got to it first and hammered it in. After that, they went defensive and we simply couldn't break through to get the win. Another game against the Toffees - another 1-1 draw.

So there is that, the month of January. Both Gibbs and Rosicky wanted to leave, I felt that no replacement was needed for Rosicky, kinda sad that I had to get rid of him. Gibbs forced his way out and we sold him to Inter on the last day, so I went for gamble and got Alex Sandro on the last day. How will it play out, I have no idea.
