Some great transfers that can really improve and make an impact in the team straight away. Whilst I was reading about your transfers, I was most impressed with the acquisitions of Heung-Min Son and Hakan Calhanoglu. They've really have stood out for you in their first month too! (especially Heung-Min Son!)
You've had an amazing first month and you only dropped two points against Mainz which gives you (unsuprisingly) first place in the league table.
You've got a great squad and you can hopefully push for total domination this season and the seasons to come!

Transfers In

Felix Platte
67 Ovr, Striker, 20 Years Old, Germany
€1,500,000
This transfer happened only because Julian Schieber was sold and Hertha BSC needed someone to be their third-choice striker in case something happens to Kalou and Drmic. The man who they chose was Schalke 04's Felix Platte. Schalke's academy product reached some headlines in 2015 with his wonderstrike against Real Madrid in the Champions League but since then the young striker has failed to reach the starting eleven. Now he will continue to rot in the reserves but this time it will be in Berlin.

Daniel Didavi
77 Ovr, Attacking Midfielder, 26 Years Old, Germany
€4,800,000
Another transfer that was made just for squad depth was the signing of Daniel Didavi from Stuttgart. Didavi, who had only one year left on his contract, was signed for a cheap price of just under five million. The attacking midfielder who has came through Stuttgart's academy will get some playing time off the bench for the Berliners.

Johannes Geis
77 Ovr, Defensive Midfielder, 23 Years Old, Germany
€7,000,000
Johannes Geis was also signed for squad depth and to replace a sold player like in Platte's case. After Cigerci's sell Hertha had only one defensive minded midfielder on the bench and that wasn't enough for a two-front battle in the league and in the Champions League. Geis has huge potential and he has been named the new Schweinsteiger and the German Xabi Alonso many times. The 23-year-old who joined from Maiz is a very balanced player who can also play pretty much everywhere in the middle. Geis will probably be rotated with Fabian Lustenberger as the holding midfielder.

Heung-Min Son
79 Ovr, Left Winger, 24 Years Old, South Korea
€9,000,000 + Genki Haraguchi
The first of two big attacking talents Hertha BSC signed was Heung-Min Son. Son spent just a year in Paris Saint-Germain before coming back to Germany. "The Korean Ronaldo" is a fast, skillful, two-footed and clinical player who always gives his everything. The deal saw Genki Haraguchi, who didn't get a single game last season, join Leverkusen. He can play everywhere in attack and he's a very dangerous attacker.

Ron-Robert Zieler
79 Ovr, Goalkeeper, 27 Years Old, Germany
€12,000,000
Replacements, replacements everywhere. The goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler is another player who gets added to the list. After Thomas Kraft's average season in the last campaign Hertha felt like they needed a change between the posts. According to rumours they made bids for Bernd Leno, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ralf Fährmänn but their prices were too high so Hertha decided to go for Hannover's Zieler. Zieler is also a good and talented keeper who excells in reflexes in positioning. Zieler came through Manchester United's youth academy but lack of game time lead to a transfer to Hannover where he became the starting keeper. Zieler has played for Germany's every youth level and now he's Joachim Löw's third-choice keeper for the men's national team.

Hakan Calhanoglu
79 Ovr, Attacking Midfielder, 22 Years Old, Turkey
€14,000,000
The final and most expensive signing Hertha BSC made in the summer was Hakan Calhanoglu who arrived for €14 million from Bayer Leverkusen. The Turkish playmaker joined Leverkusen in 2014 after making his breakthrough for Hamburger SV. Since then Calhanoglu has taken some steps towards his potential. He has been compared to Mesut Özil on many occasions and he is known for his amazing free kicks. Calhanoglu's arrival means that Valentin Stocker will either get benched or he'll get moved to the wing.
August 2016

Hertha BSC 3 - 1 VfB Stuttgart
Stocker 45', Kalou 55', Son 79'
Harnik 37'
The first game of the season didn't start perfectly for Hertha. The first half was controlled by Stuttgart and they got the lead after the half an hour mark when Martin Harnik scored with a beautiful volley. The ball came towards him from behind and he timed his kick perfectly to hit the ball into the top net. The lead lasted under ten minutes as Valentin Stocker cut in form the right wing and curled the ball into the bottom left corner. Ten minutes into the second half Hakan Calhanoglu's pass split Stuttgart's defence and Salomon Kalou finished the attack. Ten minutes before the full time whistle Heung-Min Son was played through down the left wing and he scored the winning goal after cutting in from the wing.

FC Schalke 04 0 - 1 Hertha BSC
Kalou 82'
This game was very exciting and the only reason why more goals weren't scored were Stefanos Kapino and Ralf Fährmann. The keepers saved almost everything that came towards them. Finally in the 82nd minute Salomon Kalou was played through on goal and he shot the ball into the top right corner to secure the three points.

Hertha BSC 1 - 1 Mainz 05
Son 39'
Nedelev 22'
A shocking result for the defending champions, especially at home! Mainz defended extremely well and they didn't let Hertha have that many chances. The away team got the lead twenty minutes into the game when a cross was played into the box from the right wing. Poor marking lead to Todor Nedelev getting the ball and the Bulgarian winger just tapped it into the net. Luckily fifteen minutes later Heung-Min Son managed to equalise the game when he once again cut in from the wing and shot the ball into the net.

Borussia Dortmund 0 - 2 Hertha BSC
Kalou 21', Calhanoglu 90'
It's official, Hertha Berlin play much better when they play against bigger teams. After a draw with Mainz Hertha took a solid win home from Dortmund's Westfalenstadion. The Berliners defended well, passed well and attacked well. They got the lead in the 21st minute when Heung-Min Son's cross reached Kalou's head and the Ivorian put it in. The second goal came in stoppage time when Hakan Calhanoglu got into the box, dribbled past two defenders and curled the ball into the bottom left corner. After that Hertha had a chance to score one more but Salomon Kalou's penalty was saved.
Player of the Month

Heung-Min Son
The fast and talented Korean took no time to get adjusted to his new team. He scored two important goals and assisted one more in the four games Hertha played this month. Son showed real quality on and off the ball and right now he's looking like a great signing.
