Oh dang, I actually meant Jota not Toral. I just noticed that in the most recent squad update he was converted to RM. In my squad update he's still a CAM so it was my mistake! Also I see you still have Tarkowski in the squad. His potential may only be 69 this year, but he was a very important player for me at Wimbledon in 14 so I hope he can do just as good for you with Brentford.

A promising start for Bee as both teams have chances to take the lead. Ali M’Madi gets the first after David Ducourtioux wins the ball with a sliding challenge which then unleashes Kévin Mayi on counter-attack. He slips the ball between the defenders for M’Madi who smashes the ball along the ground to beat the keeper at his near post and the volume of the stadium increases as the half-time whistle blows. Higgins equalise eight minutes after the second half starts due to a Ducourtioux sliding challenge bringing down the attacker and giving away a penalty. The penalty slams against the crossbar but Emmanuel Lizio manages to get a touch on to it to put it across the line from the rebound. Not even five minutes go by before Ali M’Madi slots in Kévin Mayi who slips the ball under the keeper to put Gazélec back into the lead. Higgins then equalises once again with Diego Cháves as he’s allowed to have as much space as he wants to just slot the ball into the bottom right corner. After that, no one could break the stalemate.

Bee decides to start a few different players compared to the last game but Católica take an early lead as David Llanos finds some space in the right side of the box to beat Maury at his near post from a tight angle. Católica extend their lead as the Gazélec defence fail to mark Darío Bottinelli at the back post who easily curls the ball into the far corner. The game finishes and Bee has some thinking to do.

Cambuur take the lead as Martjin Barto breaks down the right before slotting the ball through the defence who fail to successfully execute the offside trap and Bob Shepers guides the ball into the bottom corner. It was awful defending by Gazélec in the build up to that goal... Only one minute later, Kévin Mayi finds his way through the Cambuur defence and picks out Ali M’Madi at the back post to slip it past the diving keeper and across the line. A few chances go begging for Cambuur including a shot that slaps against the crossbar and another where Clément Maury makes a great one-on-one save but these chances aren’t goals and Cyriaque Rivieyran punishes them as he bombs up the left wing from the left back position. He plays a one-two with M’Madi and then he finds his way through a wave of opposition players before neatly tucking the ball into the bottom corner for a not so well deserved win.

M’Madi has shown his worth to the club during pre-season with two goals and two assists throughout the three matches. His pace and wit will be a danger to any side in the French leagues and I have high hopes for him!

I’m going to use a points system once the season gets under way. The top performer will get three points whilst second gets two points and third gets one point. Whoever has the most points at the end of the season gets a pay rise and get Gazélec’s player of the season award.

Managers Thoughts:

It’s been an extremely enjoyable month! Despite the tiny stadium, you always get applauded whenever something impressive happens and lots of boos when the referee gives a foul to the opposition. I don’t think the fans are used to the energetic football that we are offering at the minute and it looks like they love it! These are not the best of teams though; we’ll have to see how we fair against teams within our own league to see how well we are actually performing.

Looking forward to our first games of the season! We start at Troyes who are looking for a mid-table finish so they should be a good indicator to see if we’re up to scratch. On the twelfth, we face Valenciennes in the prestigious, Coupe de Ligue (If you win the competition, you are allowed entrance to the Europa League) which will be a very important game for us. Our next big match is against rivals AC Ajaccio. This will be a passionate battle between two brothers and it’ll be at our ground where we can show them how formidable we can actually be!

One thing that I’d like to mention is that the French Ligue 2 only allows five players on the bench which feels a little strange to me and I’ll have to consider who are my main ‘super subs’.

Oh Jota. He's in rotation as he hasn't impressed me whereas one of my new loan signings has been much better than him. Also, I knew I recognised Tarkowski from somewhere!

Yeah those 2 results could have been better but we still managed to pick up points which I'm happy about as they've put us up in 1st/2nd. I can't wait for Benteke to get back from injury next month as I've missed his aerial presence. Ings has been good in his absence but we have to play a slightly different way with him up top.

I'm not going to take another international job for now, unless I can get one from a team that qualified for the World Cup in which case I will take the job, play the tournament and then resign.

I really don't think it's the defence's fault. If Zieler fails to catch the ball or if Kapino lets it in through his legs it's not the defenders' fault. Yes, maybe the AI pulls them out of position but the keepers also let in easy chances.

I've played ahead to January and I've decided that at least Zieler will leave. None of the keepers were amazing in December. Now that you mentioned January, I'll probably replay the window. Spoilers: I traded Calhanoglu for Griezmann and kept Stocker because they didn't want him but I feel like I made a stupid decision. Zieler also left. Anyway, I won't change my mind.

I think that RM and I could qualify on goal difference if Benfica beats Basel. Did they manage to do that, though? You'll see probably tomorrow.

As for the update itself, you took some great wins against Real Madrid and Vallecano, 3-0 each, but those 1-0 defeats against Sevilla and Betis look like they were a pain to play. The Europa League seriously had some excitement in it, and controversy of course. That referee had some balls to call that penalty seeing as without that goal United would have been through on away goals. I can imagine how nervous you must have been preparing for that penalty kick in the 90th minute! You did pick up a bad result against Lazio, but on the bright side you still have a lot of room for recovery for the second leg. You do have an away goal against you, but seeing as you'll be visiting Lazio in the return leg you can void that by just scoring one. Anything after that will only increase your chances of advancing.

*Damn Barcelona in 6th place? What happened? Wouldn't be surprised if the AI had them go through a terrible transfer window.

The penalty against United at the end was honestly, a terrible call in my opinion. If it had been the other way around a controller might have been thrown! Still, it was crazy having the chance at a high pressure penalty against a keeper like De Gea.

As for Barca, I have no clue what happened to them this season, but I'm pretty sure Messi has been out hurt for some lengths of time for them this season if I am remember that headline right.

The first chance of the game came to Millwall, Bailey's curling effort from distance going just over the bar. Soon after, Bidwell showed him how it's done. As the ball was headed out from a corner, Bidwell hit the ball from about 25 yards, his dipping, swerving effort finding the top corner. Gray then made it 2, smashing in after running on to a ball over the top. The third goal came about on the counter when Gray squared it to Pritchard to smash past the keeper, not long after Gray had headed over from close range. Unfortunately we lost Diagouraga for 7 months due to injury.

This match was entertaining, despite the general lack of highlights. The first chance came to Sharp who headed over from 6 yards from a good cross. The match didn't get another great chance until the hour mark when Maguire gave away a penalty. Sharp stepped up but Button tipped it over the bar with one hand. We finally got a good highlight, Pritchard forcing a great save from the edge of the box.

Pritchard headed in the opener from Ibe's cross after Ibe and Gray combined to set Ibe off down the wing. Tebar then made it 2, smashing into the top corner from the edge of the box with incredible power. Pritchard headed in powerfully for his second from Judge's cross, finding the top corner with pinpoint accuracy. Sammon almost pulled one back but his shot went inches wide before Pritchard completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after Ibe was brought down. Button made an incredible save in stoppage time to deny Frecklington's header to keep his clean sheet.

Brentford 0-0 Ipswich
This was an absolutely awful game. McGoldrick hit the bar for them, Judge forced a good save from their keeper. That was aboout all that happened.

As you probably know, I just made the step up to Legendary for my Gazelec Ajaccio career so I understand how you're feeling right now!

When I was considering whether or not to do it,I asked myself whether or not i was mentally prepared for it or not and I decided i was. I then did my first few games on legendary and it's really addictive! Every successful tackle, pass and, most of all, goals feel hugely more rewarding than on Legendary!

So i'm gonna have to answer your question with a question: do you feel that you are prepared for Legendary mentally and do you have faith in your skills? And if you are, I would definately suggest you going for it!

You had two convincing wins and then two draws which hardly had any chances in them which makes your first month a 50/50 feel to it. Good luck for the rest of the season and I hope you enjoy this career for as long as possible!

Fulham who were sitting in 6th started well having the first chance. However after that it was all us and we opened the scoring when a cutting Reilly placed it into the far netting. 5 minutes before half time Hutchinson clipped the leg of Thomas in the box to give us a penalty and Hutchinson received his marching orders being the last man. Thomas blasted it to the opposite direction of the keeper Kirvak and doubled our lead going into half time. We played with ease finding big gaps between Fulham's defence and scored a third when Novak powered through to put the icing on the cake, as we shut down after his goal.

Gaspar: Thought we played beautiful football and when Fulham did go down a player I thought we used that to real effect. Very pleased.

Championship - St Andrew's, 10/3/15
Birmingham City 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

The game was tense early on with both teams struggling to make a forward move. It opened up for Wednesday around the 20 minute mark, dominating play and testing our defence. After half time we had the momentum and capitalised in the 68th when Gray played a one-two with Thomas with the 18 year old placing it past the keeper. We defended and defended as we looked to have the game won, but a corner from Wednesday saw it headed to the Dutch defender in Loovens who volleyed past many defenders and the keeper to steal two points from us.

Gaspar: Unlucky to lose like this but when they score a great goal like that, you have to appalled it. They also deserved the point, Sheffield played well for most of the game. We just took or chance when we had the momentum.

FA Cup Quarter Final - St Andrews, 14/3/15
Birmingham City 3-0 Sheffield United
(Rantie 11', Thomas 27', Cotterill 90')

We played the other Sheffield team and from the word go they played a defensive sort of style, but passed the ball extremely well when attacking. We found the breakthrough just 11 minutes in after Rantie cut back on his defender to give him an outside foot shot that fond the far side netting. Sheffield attacked strong with two diving challenges to stop shots on target. In the 27th, Thomas stole the ball off the defender and ran with a 1 on 1 with the keeper to double our lead against the run of play. After this we sat back as Sheffield attacked but couldn't get past our strong defence. It wasn't until the last minutes when Sheffield were wanting a goal, The pace of Rantie got past the single defender back as he had a one two with Thomas where he squared it across to Cotterill who finished the game off. And take us too WEMBLEY!!!

Gaspar: Extremely proud of the boys today, we are going to Wembley after just missing out in the League Cup. We need to give Sheffield credit they played extremely well and could have beaten a lot of sides with that performance. But credit has to go to our boys, they defended real tight and took the chances we had. With high regarded Premier League teams left we need another performance like this next round.

Championship - Cardiff City Stadium, 21/3/15
Cardiff City 1-2 Birmingham City

Game started boring with the teams finding their feet. In the 34th minute a good run by Hancox who gave a great cross that found Thomas saw him side volley it into the far left corner. The game would be level going into half time when a low cross hit the foot of Robinson that rolled its way into the net. Another great cross from Hancox in the 67th found the head of Thomas who leap over the defender to give us the lead. We defended the lead to give us the win.

Gaspar: Thomas first goal was great his best this season. We won a promotion six pointer and with a game in hand we are in a good position. We just need to keep playing the way we are and not let our results change our mindset.

Championship - St Andrew's, 24/3/15
Birmingham City 1-0 Blackpool

A brilliant start with Eardley crossing great ball into the head of Thomas on the far post who squared his header to Novak who half volleyed it into the bottom corner. The game was then dull with us not capitalising on the chances we made and Blackpool only shooting from ridiculous positions.

Gaspar: We won this one ugly. Which is good in the way we can grind out wins. Blackpool are fighting for survival and we knew the standards of the game weren't going to be high. And we played according. With this win we are in the automatic promotion and this is great for the club and supporters, we are buzzing. But we also need to keep a level head.

Championship - St Andrew's, 28/3/15
Birmingham City 2-1 Brighton

(Holla 53')

We had another early breakthrough with Luongo threading a pass while being held back found a free Novak who slotted the ball past the charging keeper. Both teams had chances but we went into the break a goal up. Brighton started the second on fire and capitalised when a cross was deflected off our defenders to bounce into open space to find Holla place it past three siding defenders and the keeper to level it up. As Brighton stayed back the game was heading for a draw. However, Thomas fended off two defenders as he back heeled it to a running Rantie who slotted it home to win us the game!!!

Q: Firstly before we talk about the game Norwich have just drawn their game against Nottingham Forest, this makes you top on goal difference. How are you personally feeling?

Gaspar: Wait... You serious... Hmmm, that got me off guard. Well I'm happy I guess.

Q: How are the players feeling now that your top?

Gaspar: Well they would of just found out about it so they will be delighted, they have come from a long way from not being relegated to here. But there is 6 weeks left and this is the Championship. Anything can happen, it is always extremely close come end of season.

Q: To the game, Your thoughts?

Gaspar: I thought we played okay not the best but not the worst, we started real brightly but fumbled between half time and the 70th. We were real lucky to have scored that goal in the last minute, but that’s the character our team shows and that's why we are top at the moment, that never say die attitude. It had been a big month and to finish the month off like that with some of them very tired. It really shows how far this team and club has come.

Q: You just mention the month, how did you rate it? Undefeated and into the last four of the FA Cup.

Gaspar: A lot of people rat us on the cup run, that's great and all but the way we have performed with the extra games is second to none. No players want rests, they hate it when I do rest them and that’s the attitude I want. Besides the Cup game and Fulham, all the games were gutsy wins or draws with many of the goals coming late or us coming back from behind or a tied score line, which is great it shows our attitude to win.

Q: How will you deal with the last month and a bit being top and some say the benchmark of the competition?

Gaspar: Firstly we aren't the bench mark of the competition, Norwich are, they have been for the whole season. We are in terrific form and are all enjoying the experience of being in a great position on the table and not fighting for survival like the club has in the past few years. April is a massive month from memory, we have 7 league games in April and the FA Cup Semi Final I think will be held in April, That's 8 games in a month, 2 a week. A huge challenge both physical and mentally. A challenge we are up too and excited to face. We will take each game as it comes and want to win every game left.

Q: Finally, You were an unknown manager when appointed, with the majority of people over dispute of your appointment. You have obviously changed most of their opinions, how have you dealt with this and built this team to a potentially league winning team?

Gaspar: I never thought about the 'haters' when I was appointed. I had a goal attitude when applying for this job which the owners appointed me on and that goal and attitude and I haven't disappointed. I will continue to manage the way I do and hopefully give this club a great future.

With the long injury too Edgar, Packwood has stepped up immensely with experienced captain Paul Robinson. Packwood has been a rock in defenced and helped us gain 3 clean sheets this month and only concede 3 goals. With his pace and power he is a hassle for any attacker. He looks to have a long future at the club, with him only being 21.

Hertha basically needed to win this game if they wanted to challenge for a place in the round of 16. After dramatic 90 minutes that's exactly what they were able to do. Things didn't look good for the Berliners as Nelson Oliveira's header put Headfica - I mean Benfica- in the lead. Hertha then started pushing all of their players forwards and only Julio Cesar's amazing saves kept them away from the equaliser. Finally after the hour mark a through ball found Hakan Calhanoglu in the net who just curled it into the bottom right corner with his second touch. The home team started pulling players in defence but that wasn't enough to keep Hertha away from the goal. Pass, pass, pass, pass to Drmic in the box... and he shot it into the bottom right corner! The winning goal! Hertha were back in the race for the second place in the group!

Hertha BSC 0 - 2 Bayern München

A tired Hertha Berlin side wasn't enough to beat second in the league Bayern München. The Bavarians outclassed their opponents in every aspect of the game and Hertha had only one shot in the game. Surprisingly both of the goals were scored by holding midfielders. First Sebastian Rode scored before the half an hour mark from a shot that Ron-Robert Zieler parried -oh, by the way, he got substituted after that mistake- and almost an hour later Zlatko Junuzovic finished the second one from a counter attack. With this loss Hertha lost their lead in the league.

There were only two days separating this game from Hertha's game against Basel in the Champions which meant that Hertha fielded their second team. That lead to a game that was controlled by Köln and in which Hertha had only three shots. Luckily John Anthony Brooks got his head to Hakan Calhanoglu's corner in the 32nd minute to score the winner.

This very important win could've secured Hertha's place in the round of 16 but in the other game of the group Benfica were somehow able to beat Real Madrid. Hertha showed lots of quality in their match against Basel and their first goal was nicely created. There were a lot of passes around the box before Salomon Kalou played the ball to Maximilian Arnold who just shot it into the bottom right corner. The lead lasted under ten minutes as Basel's Gashi cut in from the right flank and curled a near-posted shot past Ron-Robert Zieler. The game then calmed down but in the 45th minute a penalty wasn't awarded for a clear foul on Valentin Stocker. Is this not a foul??

Luckily in the62nd minute Salomon Kalou was played through on goal from a counter attack and the Ivorian just curled the ball around Vaclic in goal. Like mentioned earlier Benfica beat Real Madrid and Hertha's last game against Real will decide the team that joins the Whites in the round of 16.

What an exciting game this was. Both teams attacked a lot and five goals were scored on the pitch of the pretty full Olympiastadion. The Berliners got the lead in the 35th minute when Heung-Min Son cut in from the right wing and shot the ball straight at Diego Benaglio who somehow failed to save the shot. Only five minutes later Salomon Kalou doubled the lead from a counter attack but another five minutes later Daniel Caligiuri pulled one back with a shot that went through Kapino's legs in goal. Twenty minutes into the second half Ivan Perisic controlled a good long pass with his chest before shooting the ball into the bottom right corner. In the 76th minute Hakan Calhanoglu and Heung-Min Son combined well as Son got his brace with a shot from outside the box that bounced into the net off the post.

Player of the Month

No one

Seriously, this was a real up and down month. None of the attackers were consistent, none of the midfielders impressed me and none of the defenders made amazing clearances, interceptions or tackles. Speaking of great defenders, I miss Kaan Ayhan and Marquinhos from Hellas Verona. They are the best defensive duo I've used.

The young Korean attacker had a couple of good performances in November. He got a brace against Wolfsburg and he picked two assists in the other games.

Ron-Robert Zieler

The German keeper of the team is still hugely underperforming for the Berliners. He parries way too many weak shots, he lets in very easy goals in almost every game he plays and he even got substituted off the field against Bayern.

Stefanos Kapino

The other keeper of the team also performed badly in November. He wasn't as poor as Zieler but he also made some mistakes and let in easy goals. Hertha seriously need new keepers.

Valentin Stocker

It's official, Valentin Stocker has hit the bottom. After three terrible months in the beginning of the season, which followed the amazing 2015-16 campaign he had, he has been dropped out of the starting eleven. Only four assists in four months weren't good enough statistics for Stocker who was replaced by Timo Werner. The Swiss attacking midfielder could be on his way out in January.

Headlines

Top of the Table -There have been three points max separating the top two of the Bundesliga for the whole season and for the last two months Hertha have gotten the upper hand in the title race. Even though Bayern beat the Berliners and became the leaders they lost only two weeks later and dropped back to second. If both teams keep playing like they have this season will be the most interesting season in recent years.

Keeper Problems - It has been clear for a while now that Hertha have some serious problems with their goalkeepers. Ron-Robert Zieler has been the biggest flop signing for Hertha and the other candidate Stefanos Kapino hasn't played that well in many of the recent games. The keepers are getting rotated but that hasn't fixed anything. It's still unsure who is the starting keeper of Hertha.

By the way, where's Rabbit? He appeared a while ago to mention that he won't be able to post the end of season updates but I haven't heard anything from him since that.

Late, dramatic win against Benfica followed by a disappointing loss against Bayern. Looks like you got lucky against Koln but then you had a good win against Basel to get back into 2nd place contention. Although it's typical FIFA that Real lose to Benfica when you needed Real to win. Exciting game against Wolfsburg to finish off the month. Good auld, Simp subbing his keepers again! Hopefully you can get a better replacement in January.

Good solid, comfortable 3-0 victories against Real and Vallecano but then you lose 1-0 to Betis and Sevilla! Talk about up and down. The 2 legs against United looked tight and did I hear something of the ref being paid off?

Good that you pulled through though and although the first leg against Lazio didn't go to plan all you need to do is score once to wipe their advantage. You are within whiskers of Real too which makes for a great finish to the season. 2 draws with USA ain't bad results although maybe you should be beating Norway. Good game against Spain though!

A promising start for Bee as both teams have chances to take the lead. Ali M’Madi gets the first after David Ducourtioux wins the ball with a sliding challenge which then unleashes Kévin Mayi on counter-attack. He slips the ball between the defenders for M’Madi who smashes the ball along the ground to beat the keeper at his near post and the volume of the stadium increases as the half-time whistle blows. Higgins equalise eight minutes after the second half starts due to a Ducourtioux sliding challenge bringing down the attacker and giving away a penalty. The penalty slams against the crossbar but Emmanuel Lizio manages to get a touch on to it to put it across the line from the rebound. Not even five minutes go by before Ali M’Madi slots in Kévin Mayi who slips the ball under the keeper to put Gazélec back into the lead. Higgins then equalises once again with Diego Cháves as he’s allowed to have as much space as he wants to just slot the ball into the bottom right corner. After that, no one could break the stalemate.

Católica extend their lead as the Gazélec defence fail to mark Darío Bottinelli at the back post who easily curls the ball into the far corner. The game finishes and Bee has some thinking to do.

Cambuur take the lead as Martjin Barto breaks down the right before slotting the ball through the defence who fail to successfully execute the offside trap and Bob Shepers guides the ball into the bottom corner. It was awful defending by Gazélec in the build up to that goal... Only one minute later, Kévin Mayi finds his way through the Cambuur defence and picks out Ali M’Madi at the back post to slip it past the diving keeper and across the line. A few chances go begging for Cambuur including a shot that slaps against the crossbar and another where Clément Maury makes a great one-on-one save but these chances aren’t goals and Cyriaque Rivieyran punishes them as he bombs up the left wing from the left back position. He plays a one-two with M’Madi and then he finds his way through a wave of opposition players before neatly tucking the ball into the bottom corner for a not so well deserved win.

M’Madi has shown his worth to the club during pre-season with two goals and two assists throughout the three matches. His pace and wit will be a danger to any side in the French leagues and I have high hopes for him!

I’m going to use a points system once the season gets under way. The top performer will get three points whilst second gets two points and third gets one point. Whoever has the most points at the end of the season gets a pay rise and get Gazélec’s player of the season award.

Managers Thoughts:

It’s been an extremely enjoyable month! Despite the tiny stadium, you always get applauded whenever something impressive happens and lots of boos when the referee gives a foul to the opposition. I don’t think the fans are used to the energetic football that we are offering at the minute and it looks like they love it! These are not the best of teams though; we’ll have to see how we fair against teams within our own league to see how well we are actually performing.

Looking forward to our first games of the season! We start at Troyes who are looking for a mid-table finish so they should be a good indicator to see if we’re up to scratch. On the twelfth, we face Valenciennes in the prestigious, Coupe de Ligue (If you win the competition, you are allowed entrance to the Europa League) which will be a very important game for us. Our next big match is against rivals AC Ajaccio. This will be a passionate battle between two brothers and it’ll be at our ground where we can show them how formidable we can actually be!

One thing that I’d like to mention is that the French Ligue 2 only allows five players on the bench which feels a little strange to me and I’ll have to consider who are my main ‘super subs’.

Judging by the result Hertha dominated this game but excluding the last ten minutes of the game that was not the case. The game was pretty equal and it looked like it would finish in a draw. Josip Drmic's finess shot in the 28th minute got the Berliners into the lead but half an hour later Acquah equalised when Joel Matip and John Anthony Brooks failed to clear the ball even though they both kicked it. Salomon Kalou equalised only a couple minutes later with a near posted shot. This time the lead lasted only fifteen minutes. Sebastian Rudy took a shot which was parried by Kapino. Joel Matip didn't clear it and Adam Szalai hit the post from the following shot. Then John Anthony Brooks tried to clear the ball but it hit Stefanos Kapino in the head who then tackled Brooks. The ball bounced to Szalai who just tapped it into the net. That's when the whole game changed in Hertha's favour. First Salomon Kalou got his brace from the penalty spots in the 83rd minute and just five minutes later he finished his hattrick from a counter attack. In stoppage time Johannes Geis added one more to the scoreline with a free kick from a few yards out of the box.

Hertha BSC - Real Madrid

The situation before the game was like this: Real Madrid had basically secured their place in the round of 16. Meanwhile Hertha had a three-point advantage over Benfica who needed to beat Basel by at least two goals to progress in the competition. A draw was enough for the Berliners to advance but they still remembered their loss to Real a few months ago. James Rodriguez, Gareth Bale, Robert Lewandowski, Luka Modric, Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo are some of the best players in the world and almost everyone expected the mighty Real to beat Hertha. Die Blau-Weiss didn't have James, Bale, Lewa, Modric, Ramos or Ronaldo. They had Calhanoglu, Son, Werner, Arnold, Matip and Kalou but they play as a team.

Simon Müller had made an interesting decision for this game: Hertha's starting left back Abdul Rahman "Ali" Baba started as the right back to defend against Ronaldo. Hakan Calhanoglu was also placed on the right side of the pitch to give support to Baba. Uchida and Werner formed the partnership on the left flank. The tactical decision worked out almost perfectly as Ronaldo wasn't able to create many chances and Baba kept him in his pocket. The Berliners played defensively the whole first half but they still tried to create some dangerous attack down the wings and the middle but Ramos and Pepe were in top form. Real didn't have many chances but they were still dangerous. There weren't any goals in the first half and the second half began. Hertha tried playing more offensively but Iker Casillas made a couple very nice saves. In the 62nd minute Gareth Bale hit the post which prove to be costly. Joel Matip started the counter attack by shooting the ball up the pitch. Hakan Calhanoglu reached it and played a through ball to Heung-Min Son who got into the box... and he got taken down by Sergio Ramos from behind! Salomon Kalou stepped up to take the penalty. He started his run, looked at the keeper, aimed at the top right corner, took a shot..... and he scored! Hertha were in the lead against the best team in the world! Müller reacted quickly to the goal as he put on another centre back and moved Joel Matip to defensive midfield to play next to Fabian Lustenberger. Then the Berliners parked the bus and they were able to deny the mighty Real from scoring! Hertha BSC had progressed to the Champions League round of 16! They will face Liverpool and in the other game of the group Benfica drew with Basel.

This match was pretty boring and it the ball was mainly passed around the middle of the pitch. Schalke's five-man defence kept Hertha's attack in their pockets and at the end Klaas-Jan Huntelaar decided the game in the 74th minute with an outside of the foot shot into the bottom right corner after chesting the ball down.

Arguably the two best teams of the Bundesliga faced in this interesting DFB Pokal round of 16 match up. Both teams created some chances in the first half but the defences played well. In stoppage time of the first half Dante decided to stop and leave Kalou unmarked. Hakan Calhanoglu saw the space and played the ball to Kalou who curled the ball into the net with the outside of his foot. The second half was mainly played in Hertha's half but the Berliners defended well to advance in the cup! Sadly Atsuto Uchida got injured and he'll miss two months of action. Hertha will play against Augsburg in the quarter finals.

Player of the Month

Salomon Kalou

The most dangerous man in attack for Hertha picked his second Player of the Month award of this season for some good performances in December. He scored a total of five goals in four matches and he decided the games against Hoffenheim, Real Madrid and Bayern.

Headlines

Transfer Window Time! - The January transfer window will open in a week and a half and Hertha's supporters are full of excitiment. The manager Müller has confirmed that he's unhappy with his goalkeepers and with Valentin Stocker and it's expected that at least Stocker and Zieler will be sold or replaced.

Good Form - December was probably Hertha's best month of the season. They managed to keep two clean sheets, they scored five goals against a solid Hoffenheim side and they beat two European giants in the Champions League and in the DFB Pokal. The Berliners look like they're finally finding their top form.

EXE – Van Nieff (5’)

A sliding challenge with some force behind it slams into Yoëll van Nieff who skids across the waterlogged pitch and into the penalty area. Despite some shouts from the home crowd, it’s given as a free-kick. Yoëll van Nieff steps up and swings it around the wall and just inside the left post. It’s a sweetly taken free-kick and it’s a massive goal for both Exeter and van Nieff who’s scored his first goal for the club.

ARS – PEN (42’)

Santi Cazorla whips the ball to the back post where Ryan Inniss cannot reach far enough to deny Stevan Jovetić keeping it in play and knocking it back into the penalty area. Theo Walcott dives in to try and poke the ball home but Daniel Marchesín is between him and the goal. The Exeter City defender just manages to clear it with his knee before being crunched into from behind by Theo Walcott. Both men fall and the referee calls for a penalty. Bee is furious and Marchesín jumps up in protest. The referee’s line of sight must have been broken by another player but that’s no excuse when we have linesmen in the game. Stevan Jovetić steps up and he tries to slot the ball into the bottom right corner but Jonathan Bond gets down quickly and stretches far enough to tip it around the post. That just shows how well Bond has been doing today as he also denied Santi Cazorla by tipping his strong, swirling shot from around thirty yards away onto the post.

EXE –Van Nieff (49’)

López Ruano gives the ball to Jason Banton on the right who cuts in and delivers a lovely floated ball to the penalty spot with his weaker left foot. Yoëll van Nieff bursts forward to lose his marker before easily nodding the ball past the diving Wojciech Szczęsny for his second of the match and also his second in an Exeter City shirt.

ARS –Sánchez (62’)

Stevan Jovetić squares the ball to Alexis Sánchez who skips past Daniel Marchesín’s challenge before hitting the ball against the post and in. Nothing Jonathan Bond could do about that shot...

EXE –Appiah (82’)

Robert Bauer plays through Kwabena Appiah on the right. He gets past Laurent Koscielny using his pace before coming into the box from the wing. He scoops the shot past the rushing Arsenal goalkeeper to beat him at a very awkward angle at his near post. Appiah cannot get all the credit for that one due to the awful goalkeeping of Wojciech Szczęsny.

Our Best Performer: Jonathan Bond (11 crucial saves! He was amazing this game especially with the penalty and the Santi Cazorla shot he tipped onto the post. Also credit to Yoëll van Nieff for his two pivotal goals and Kwabena Appiah for being dangerous throughout the whole game and finishing Arsenal off.)

Victor Anichebe floats the ball over the top of the defence and to James Morrison who beats the offside trap. Jonathan Bond rushes out off his line to deny the shot from Morrision. The ball loops to Victor Anichebe who can easily punt the ball into the open corner of the net. The team who have only won once this season and haven’t gotten a single point in their last five games are now ahead against the in form Exeter City.

EXE –Appiah (21’)

Jason Banton drifts in from the right and he delivers the ball into the box where Appiah can nip in front of Boaz Myhill to head it past his outstretched arms and into the far corner.

WES – Brunt (PEN) (30’)

Victor Anichebe gets the ball on the corner of the penalty area and Krisztián Tamás storms through with a dangling leg and the striker goes down. Tamás turns to see the ref point towards the spot. Chris Brunt stutters his run and nestles the ball into the bottom left corner. Jonathan Bond could have got there if he hadn’t hesitated.

WES – Brunt (37’)

Lassana Diarra flicks the ball over the defence and to Chris Brunt on the right of the box. He hits it with the outside of his foot. It clips the post before going in making the score three-one to West Brom!

EXE –Saiz Alonso (40’)

A one-two with Kwabena Appiah allows Saiz Alonso to be clean through and all he has to do is bend the ball around the keeper and into the far left corner of the net.

EXE – Appiah (43’)

Exeter have near-instantly equalised! Jason Banton beats Sébastien Pocognooli way too easily to break down the right wing. He tries to deliver a low cross but it takes a deflection and it goes up into the air. The ball drops down to Appiah who hits it on the volley and it zips across the ground and into the bottom corner.

EXE –Appiah (45’)

The West Brom defence is caught napping as Appiah is allowed to sprint through an open gap in the defence and then show some composure to allow the keeper to come out before curling the ball around his outstretched leg and into the left corner of the goal for his hat-trick.

WES – PEN (90’+1’)

Yekta Kurtuluş lifts the ball over the defence to Chris Brunt whose heels are clipped by Krisztián Tamás and he falls down. The referee gives a rather harsh penalty. Chris Brunt runs up to the ball and stutters. Jonathan Bond is one step ahead and he isn’t put off this time. Brunt then flicks the ball down to the bottom right corner but Jonathan Bond gets down low and manages to palm it away and it eventually is cleared down the pitch which is then met by the full-time whistle. Jonathan Bond has allowed Exeter to run away with the three points in a very topsy-turvy game!

Watford 1 – Exeter City 2

WAT – Murray (7’)

Lewis McGugansss cuts inside before squaring the ball to Sean Murray on the edge of the box who turns and runs forward. Jonathan Bond runs out but Murray manages to sneak the ball under the body of the keeper for an early lead.

EXE – Allassani (12’)

Watford aren’t ahead for long as Inters Konate unleashes a venomous shot from outside of the box which slams the left goal post and it pings out to Allassani who takes and awful touch which acually guides the ball into the back of the net anyway.

EXE –Van Nieff (65’)

Inters Konate holds the ball up and that allows Yoëll van Nieff to get into space, receive the ball and then slot the ball past the diving keeper.

MAN – Hernández (13’)

Jazier Hernández receives Nick Powell’s floated ball over the defence. The Manchester United striker takes a good touch before curling the ball into the right corner of the net.

EXE –Saiz Alonso (36’)

Inters Konate finds himself on the counter attack. He cuts inside from the left wing before giving the ball to the unmarked, Saiz Alonso, who sprints forward before rifling home from just inside the penalty area.

MAN – Rooney (41’)

Wayne Rooney shrugs off Daniel Marchesín and turns toward goal. He manages to flick the ball past Jonathan Bond and into the bottom corner.

- This 5’10 right-footer looks to be an amazing striker. His best attributes are his heading accuracy, shot power, finishing and ball control. This physically strong youth player should be the real deal once he joins the ranks of the senior team.

Danny Winnard (United States) 16 years old 50-54 OVR 81-87 POT
- Danny Winnard is a midfielder playmaker who’s left-footed and stands at 6’0. He’s looking at being a very well-rounded player with a range of passing stats, good vision and formidable long shots.

Manager’s Thoughts:

Yoëll van Nieff has been a game changer this month. It’s like he’s suddenly flicked a switch and gone into a mode where he’s always in the right place at the right time and it’s really helped the team to get some crucial points this month. It was also a great time for this to happen because he pretty much single-handedly beat the stuffing out of Arsenal who we were previously struggling against in numerous occasions this season.

Kwabena Appiah got four goals this month and it’s solidified his place as top goal scorer just a little more. We still have many more games for him to score many more goals and I hope he can maintain his form for as long as possible. He might even get forty-odd goals next season! (*Cough* Simppu *Cough*)

Aaron Davis has finally turned sixteen! I’m going to look forward to him being in the team soon but I’m probably going to wait until next season so he can develop a little more before coming into the team. The dilemma I have is how I’m actually going to fit him in the team. Appiah is doing so well as the lone striker so should I keep him there? But what then with Aaron Davis? If I put Appiah on the wings he probably won’t get as many of those crucial goals we need. Maybe I could change formation but the 5-4-1 has been going so well for me. It’s just a little bit of a shame if I keep the youngster on the bench because he has so much potential.

The start of April definitely looks difficult with Manchester City and Liverpool as our opponents. The only consoling factor is that we’re at home so we’ll have the support of the fans. I’m hoping for six points to set ourselves up nicely for our last month of the season.
