Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
Previous Update
SpoilerThis is it, the start of a new Manager mode in Fifa 16. You guys voted for me to do Real Betis for this one so sit back and enjoy. Also I will be streaming this on my Twitch account about once a week.
Press Conference:
Reporter: Mr. Ollero, Would you care to explain why you chose this man as the new manager of the club?”
Mr. Ollero- “I picked the man standing next to me for a few reasons. First being that this man has taken several lower division clubs and made them relevant. I'm going to be a bit lenient with him this season so he can get the ball rolling.”
Reporter: Mr. Olivera, What was your response to getting the Manager job here?”
Miguel: “More shocked than anything. I applied mainly because I wanted to manage the team that I grew up watching on the Tele. This club has a great history and I hope to return this club to glory.”
Reporter: “What are your plans in the Transfer Market this summer?”
Miguel: “I'm not too sure as of yet. I'm going to take this one step at a time and after Preseason I’ll make the judgment as to what we need to do in the window.”
Reporter: Thank you for your time here Mr. Olivera, I hope you can deliver the glory that you are striving for!”
The first order of business will be the Objectives and Budget.
Domestic Cup: We are Expected to reach the round of 32
In League play: We are expected to finish Mid Table.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
Del Barco introduced as Dorados's new head coach
Diego Del Barco, merely a few months into his journey as possibly the youngest head coach in professional soccer, was introduced earlier today as the new head coach of Dorados de Sinaloa. The move came after Luis Fernando Suarez was fired prior to the first game of the Clausura 2016, an ending that seemed inevitable after Dorados' embarrasing performance in the Apertura 2015.
Del Barco made the shocking move to arguably the worst team in the Liga Bancomer MX after an few months at Central Coast Mariners in the Hyundai A-League, where his former club sat in 9th place in the 10-team league at the time of his departure. However, many analysts agree that his work with CCM was noticeable in that he helped them play significantly better soccer and his efforts as a head coach had started to get noticed by other clubs, including A-League competitors Brisbane Roar who tried and failed to sign the Venezuelan head coach.
From that point of view it makes sense that Dorados decided to hire Del Barco as their new head coach, but how did the move come about? "Shortly after Roar reached out my agent looked into who else was showing interest," the new head coach said. "There were no other teams approaching but Doug (the agent) then looked at possible job openings, which wasn't something I was necessarily thinking about, and when he mentioned Sinaloa it just made a lot of sense to at least look into it. To be a lot closer to home (USA/Venezuela)."
So what about CCM? "The board was very understanding of my desire to make this move and I highly recommended one of my top assistants to remain as interim head coach so that the project there could have some continuity as their board determined whether they wanted to go in a new direction. Luckily the players were very understanding too and were even happy for me. I'll always be a Mariner and I definitely will be rooting for the squad to continue to get better results and hopefully reach the playoffs."
So what awaits Del Barco at Dorados? A BIG challenge. The Sinaloa club finished Apertura 2015 last place in the league, amassing a very poor 6 points in 17 games to go with a -29 goal differential (6 GF, 35 GA). The board certainly expects the squad under Del Barco to perform a lot better than that, possibly challenging for a playoff spot. The new head coach will have to rely on a roster that heavily consists of loaned players, most of them who are likely to earn a starting spot. "It won't just be the challenge of fighting for a playoff spot this season," a local scout said, "Del Barco will also need to figure out how to improve a very poor roster once you take the loaned players out of the equation." Indeed, long term success will not be achieved on the legs of loaned players, so it'll be interesting to see how Del Barco can improve the talent on the roster with what is sure to be a very low budget in this January transfer window.vrabbit

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
The goal from the get-go was to move on from CCM to bigger and better things. I do want to keep it somewhat realistic, so when I got off to a rough start at CCM I was ready to be there at least a full season because 1) it didn't make much sense to be applying for new jobs when my resume didn't look so great and 2) the clubs that were looking to hire weren't the right fit at the time (read: I didn't want to jump to Europe right away). Ideally I wanted go to one of Argentina/Chile/Colombia/Mexico to continue as a coach, though I would had settled for an MLS job if one came, but those jobs never came up. But then 1) Roar offered me the job without me even asking - which signified that my "resume" was at least worthy of an offer, and 2) Mexican teams were suddenly looking to hire, so I decided to make the move right there and then because it was hard to figure out when those jobs would be available next and the fact I was "sought after" made the move at least somewhat acceptable.
Hopefully that makes some sense. In this CM I'm not necessarily looking to remain one club but instead I'm trying to build my resume as a HC. What I want is to win on this side of the world both at the local level as well as the Copa Libertadores, and then I'll feel ready to move to Europe. But I won't necessarily wait around at Dorados to accomplish all of that, if I continue to build my resume and a better club is lurking I MIGHT make the jump, though I'm definitely planning to be at Dorados at least three times as long as I was at CCM. I'll try to make it work there, but I won't be tied up to them forever unless they're willing to work with me. <-- THAT kind of CM is what I have Newport forvrabbit

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
Dorados de Sinaloa
Roster Update
Goalkeepers: Luis Michel** (69 OVR), Alfredo Frausto (66 OVR), Jesus Gacia (56 OVR).
Fullbacks: Daniel Arreola* (68 OVR), Severo Meza* (67 OVR), Nestor Vidrio* (67 OVR), Carlos Pinto (64 OVR), Jairo Gonzalez (63 OVR).
Centre-backs: Jesus Chavez* (68 OVR), Jonathan Lacerda (66 OVR), Joshua Abrego* (63 OVR), Heriberto Aguayo (61 OVR).
Midfielders/Wingers: Yimmi Chara* (74 OVR), Wilson Tiago* (70 OVR), Fernando Arce* (69 OVR), Joe Corona* (68 OVR), Mathias Cardacio (68 OVR), Liu Binbin (65 OVR), Sonny Guadarrama (65 OVR), Diego Mejia (62 OVR), Guillermo Rojas (62 OVR), Hector Velazquez (62 OVR), Javier Salas (57 OVR).
Strikers: Wilson Morelo* (71 OVR), Martin Zuñiga* (65 OVR), Freddy Martin (63 OVR).
* At the club on loan.
** Retiring at end of season.
Starting XI (4-4-2 Diamond Wide)
Michel
Meza/Lacerda/Chavez/Arreola
Tiago
Chara-----------------Corona
Arce
Zuñiga------Morelo
Analysis: On one hand, the players currently on the roster are an upgrade across the board compared with what I was working with at CCM except maybe one of the CB spots. On the other hand, 9 of the 11 starters are at the club on loan. I'm all for bringing in talent on loan but not to the point where my success is so dependent on it. To top it off, 1 of the 2 starters who do belong to the club is retiring at the end of the season, meaning the lone starter on the squad who is signed through at least next season is ... the one player on the starting XI at Dorados who wouldn't start at CCM. YIKES.
The starters currently average 68.64 OVR. When you take the loan players out of the equation (+ to-be-retired) this is what you're left with:
Starting XI (4-4-2 Diamond Wide)
Frausto
Pinto/Lacerda/Aguayo/Gonzalez
Mejia
Binbin-----------------Rojas
Cardacio
Martin------Guadarrama
Average: 64.09 OVR ... and that's putting a midfielder as a striker because I'd only be left with 1 striker (Martin).
So to sum: this roster is in trouble, and I need to improve with just $875K in transfer budget and $7K in wage budget. So it's going to be rough over here but I'm excited for the challenge, and hopeful that the "loan roster" will help me have some success in this 2nd half of the season.vrabbit

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
Match 1
Austria 3-1 Finland
Junuzović 13'
Hosiner 43'
Junuzović 55'
Riski 57'
MOTM: Philipp Hosiner (8.3)
Two goals from Junuzović and another from Hosiner set us on our way to a 3-1 victory. Some tidy play around the Finland box ended with Hosiner slipping Junuzović in for a cool finish. Hosiner got one for himself after some intricate passing made room inside the box for a chance that the striker converted. A sublime over the top ball from star man Alaba led to Junuzović's second goal, the attacking midfielder making no mistake.
Match 2
Slovenia 1-2 Austria
Filipović 3'
Alaba 81' (Pen)
Junuzović 90'
MOTM: Veli Kavlak (8.0)
The match started terribly with the Slovenians going in front after 3 minutes. Filipović with a sweetly struck strike into the top right. Özcan superbly saved a Slovenian penalty on 22 minutes to keep us from going further behind and from then on we never gave up and in the 80th minute Harnik won a penalty after going on a strong counter attack. Alaba stepped up and calmly equalized. Then in the dying moments of the game, Kavlak dispossessed the defender and swung in a cross from the right. It was inch perfect and Junuzović volleyed home the winner which sealed our place in the quarter finals.
Match 3
Austria 0-1 Spain
Silva 18'
MOTM: Pedro (7.8)
It was a piece of magic that separated the sides in the final group game to decide the group winner. We rotated the side a little bit for fatigue but we still didn't roll over and could even have equalized in the last few minutes after some close attempts. David Silva's incredible volley from 18 yards was a worthy strike to lose too.
Quarter Final
France 0-1 Austria
Hosiner 3'
MOTM: Veli Kavlak (8.3)
Thanks to a stout defensive display we managed to knock out the hosts and one of the favourites France. Hosiner's goal after just 3 minutes was enough for us to reach the semi finals. Kavlak dispossessed Matuidi in midfield before sliding the ball through for Hosiner. The striker just got there before Lloris to poke it under him and in off the post. We were awarded a penalty after 30 minutes but Lloris was up to the task of saving Alaba's spot kick. We defended well for the rest of the game and Özcan came up with some match saving saves.
Semi Final
Austria 0-1 England
Rooney 9'
MOTM: Ramazan Özcan (8.1, 9 saves)
It was semi final heartbreak courtesy of an insane outside of the boot and curling volley from England's record goalscorer Wayne Rooney. A free kick was swung in by Baines and Dragovic misheaded it into Rooney's path. He never hesitated and smashed it past Özcan in goal. Hart stopped several good chances as we looked to equalize. We had a golden opportunity in the dying seconds when Junuzović struck the post agonizingly. A good passing move made space in the box for our top scorer but having beat Hart the shot slammed against the woodwork and we exited the Euros at the semi final stage.
Junuzović's last minute effort:
Spoiler
I'm happy to see that our only two losses were against the tournaments finalists. Both 1-0 as well which shows that we were tough to beat although Spain probably should have beaten us by 3 or 4. I'm still very pleased that we made it to the semi finals and were nearly into the final.
Golden Boot
1. Benzema (France) 4
2. 8 Players tied with 3 (Including Junuzović)
Assists
1. Pedro (Spain) 4
2. Kavlak (Austria) 3
Pogba (France) 3
4. 5 tied on 2
Golden Glove
1. Cilessen (Netherlands) 3
Hart (England) 3
3. Lloris (France) 2
Diego Lopez (Spain) 2
Thanks for Reading! I resigned from the team after the tournament as it wasn't something I wanted long term.Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
Season 2 | 2016-17
Transfer Window
Bogdan Čaušić (LM, 67, 19, Serbia) Season Loan from VfB Stuggart
Bodgan arrives as cover for the wide areas where we have found ourselves a little bit short on numbers. The Serbian teenager looks like an exciting talent and can only get better on loan with us.
Andy Kawaya (LM, 69 Ovr, 19, Belgium) Season Loan from RSC Anderlecht
Andy has joined us for the same reasons as Bogdan above. With bags of pace and great strength, he could be a real handful for the opposition defenders.
Samed Yesil (ST, 67, 22, Germany) €1 million from Liverpool
Samed returns to Germany for a fee that we think can become a bargain in a few seasons. He never really settled at on Merseyside and jumped at the chance to join us in the Bundesliga. He is a great natural finisher and should get a lot of game time here.
Suently Alberto (CB, 66, 20, Netherlands) €800k from PSV
Suently was our final signing of the window. The 20 year old has a bright future and forms defensive cover alongside Schindele. The Dutch underage international has a combination of strength and pace which works extremely for a central defender.
Out
Zlatan Alomerovic (GK, 66, 24, Serbia) €700k to Greuther Fürth
Preseason
Match 1
Kaiserslautern 0-1 Anzhi Makhachkala
Maximov 25'
MOTM: Ilya Maximov (7.6)
We dominated this game without really making clear cut chances.
Match 2
Belenenses 1-1 Kaiserslautern
Thy 78'
Tonel 90'
MOTM: Michael Schulze (7.6)
Lennart Thy came off the bench to score his first goal for the club. Thy dispossessed the Belenenses keeper before slotting the ball home. What looked like an important victory for us in our quest to get out of the group turned into a disappointing draw. A hopeful cross was sent into our box and Tonel rose highest to loop a header over Alomerovic. We now face an uphill battle to qualify for the knock out stages and earn some much needed funds.
Match 3
Kaiserslautern 4-0 Carpi
Heubach 49'
Löwe 81' (Pen)
Thy 90'
Ring 90'
MOTM: Lennart Thy (8.5)
Heubach opened the scoring, getting in front of the keeper to head in Klich's corner just after halftime. Löwe extended our lead from the spot when Gaus was taken down late after a cross. Thy scored a second goal in two games, breaking onto a loose ball and racing away before calmly finishing. Ring came off the bench and added another off Thy's through ball. Thanks to Belenenses beating Anzhi 2-0 we qualify for the semi finals.
Semi Final
Sporting Gijón 1-3 Kaiserslautern
Castro 7'
Mandi 45' s/o
Lorenzen 45' (Pen)
Lorenzen 69'
Dahoud 81'
MOTM: Melvyn Lorenzen (8.7)
Mockenhaupt took a poor touch from a short goal kick which allowed Guerrero to nip in and square it for Castro. Just before halftime the game swung on its head when Mandi took down Lorenzen, giving away a penalty and earning a red card in the process. Lorenzen stuck it away and then scored a second in the 69th minute. He got a huge slice of luck when Cuellar's save rebounded off him and then Carmona just missed clearing it off the line. Dahoud scored his first goal for the club when Čaušić got ahead of Bustos for a pass inside the box and squared it for the German. With the help of a deflection the score was 3-1. Čaušić had a great debut on the right while Kawaya had an OK run out.
Alexander Ring Bruised Shoulder 5 days
Final
Kaiserslautern 3-1 Belenenses
Halfar 54'
Thy 66' (Pen)
Fomitschow 85'
Silva 89'
MOTM: André Fomitschow (8.2)
Halfar put us 1-0 up in the 54th minute, Thy's ball through setting the winger up for a finesse finish round the keeper. Thy then won and converted a penalty for our second before Lorenzen set up left back Fomitschow for the third. Some lax defending gifted Silva a goal for Belenenses but it came much too late to make a difference.
August
Match 1
Kaiserslautern 2-2 VfL Wolfsburg
Perišić 22'
Knoche 31' s/o
Ring 33'
Halfar 44'
Kruse 68'
MOTM: Daniel Halfar (7.5)
Perišić opened the scoring for Wolfsburg after he was given too much space on the edge of the box. The game swung in our favour when Knoche made a needless sliding tackle on Lorenzen out by the sideline and was red carded. From the resulting free kick, Halfar placed it onto Ring's head who powered it into the net. The former then gave us the lead right before halftime, dispossessing Rodriguez and then smashing the ball home. Kruse would equalize for Wolfsburg however with an audacious chip over Müller. A good draw to start the season against a top side. Slightly disappointed after being a man up for an hour though.
Match 2
Bayern Munich 1-1 Kaiserslautern
Ring 40'
Müller 89'
MOTM: Thomas Müller (8.0)
Bayern clearly underestimated our fight and indeed quality when they came out with a weakened side. Lorenzen had the first chance of the game striking the post after getting through the defence. Højbjerg then had a couple of great chances hitting the bar and then having the follow up touched onto the post by Müller. Ring would give us a surprise lead after finishing off a counter attack where we purely outnumbered them. Robben then struck the post for Bayern, again, with a free kick right before halftime. We defended valiantly for the entire game but when the hosts brought on the big guns in Lewandowski, Lahm and Götze it was always going to be difficult to hold out. Müller got the heartbreaking goal with a minute to go, Lahm leaving Karl on the floor with quick feet and then playing it into his compatriot for a first time finish.
Benatia came close:
Spoiler
Match 3
Kaiserslautern 2-0 Hertha BSC
Lorenzen 52' (Pen)
Lorenzen 61'
MOTM: Melvyn Lorenzen (8.4)
We got our first win of the new season courtesy of two goals from our top scorer last season Melvyn Lorenzen. The first came from the spot after Ring was brought down by Langkamp. A second soon followed, Halfar slipping the striker through for him to grab a brace. We looked to add more late on, Ring striking the bar and having an effort saved while Yesil made his debut, squandering a decent chance for a third and debut goal.
I'm not sure if this is too easy or not so I may change the sliders slightly as I think I should be battling for mid table at a push rather than the top half.
Thanks for Reading! Hope you are enjoying it!Comment

Mallorca Player of the Month
CB Lucas Aveldaño, 71 Ovr, 30 years old, Argentina
Veteran center back Lucas Aveldaño picks up his second Player of the Month honors as he scored 2 goals in October and helped lead Mallorca to a concession of 0 goals in Liga Adelante play. Aveldaño is remarkably Mallorca's top scorer with 5 goals from his defensive position. On loan from Argentine side Belgrano, manager Pepe Gálvez would love to make Aveldaño's stay in Mallorca permanent.

Manager's Thoughts
I never thought we'd steamroll through Liga Adelante like we have been doing, but our defense is so stifling that we've only allowed 1 league goal in 14 matches. However, this is not to say we haven't had some close calls. Against Oviedo, we got a 90th minute game winner on a header from André Silva. Then facing Almería, the only team we have drawn with in league play, it took until extra time to progress in the Copa del Rey by a score of 2-1. An early Arana penalty sent us through 1-0 against Córdoba as well. Still, we finished the month very strong by blasting Elche 5-0. I'm very proud of how we're playing, and we now have a nice 11 point cushion over second place Tenerife.
November 2015 - Schedule
11/7 - at Mirandés
11/14 - vs Huesca
11/21 - at Alavés
11/28 - vs Zaragoza
A light month of November sees us with only 4 matches. Three of those clubs are in the top half of the table, with Zaragoza and Huesca really fighting for a spot in the promotion playoffs. With our form though, I expect a full 12 points. We are currently a well-oiled machine, and I don't see anyone in Liga Adelante slowing us down.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
I started over with Newcastle but got fired around Christmas because I lost 13 of the first 17 games. Took me a while to figure out my controller setting had changed, so I was making slide tackles when I wanted to just contain an opposition player. To be fair, I should have figured it out a lot sooner, but the rage built up and I started playing way too direct and aggressive. Anyway, I'm done with Newcastle. Indi needs a new club to manage, but I also feel like I need to engage you guys with more interesting content. So please check out the story below the break for more!
'Indi, the way I see it, you've got three options right now. The first and the smartest one is to stay put right here at Albion. You know the club, what it takes to play for this shirt. Half these guys in the first team, you coached them through the academy. They'd run through brick walls if you asked it of them. You can't have that anywhere else. Tony Bloom, he knows you. He'll back you however you need it, within reason. It's the perfect recipe, mate.'
'Right, but then suppose I decide Albion's not the place for me to improve?'
'I'd call you a right muppet for saying that about the club that means so much to you. Imagine taking this mob up to the Premier League and keeping them there for years. Yeah, maybe you'll win loads of trophies if you go to manage another club, but then wouldn't you rather have just a few here?'
'Would definitely feel amazing, but you haven't answered my question.'
'Well, if you decide that this isn't the best place to kick-start your coaching career, you could always join another Championship side. I could get you in the door at Wolves or Blackburn, but you'd have to impress them enough to take you on. Other than that, I don't see the point of dropping down one or two divisions when you have Albion ready to offer you the top job.'
'Nothing in the Premier League?'
'No top flight side is stupid enough to make you manager when you have no experience leading a club. Besides, if you do manage to get a job offer from a Premier League club and want to join, you'll need to find a new agent.'
'What the hell does that mean?'
'Means I'm not ready for all the bullsh*t that comes with being the agent of a Premier League manager. You want to get sucked into a world of inflated egos and self-destructive people? Be my guest. But I won't come with you, not unless we get there together. The right way. With this club, mate.'
'Right, so that's England done. What about other countries?'
'There's France. PSG are so big that not even Marseille or Lyon stand any sort of chance, so we can probably push for interviews with the likes of Nantes, Stade Rennais and Bordeaux. You'd have time to build a team away from pressure of any sort. I wouldn't recommend Spain. It's a much more competitive league than people think. You'd sink like a rock under the sort of pressure they put on head coaches there. Italy's not the right place for you right now, mostly because there's no money and some really sh*t stadiums. That leaves Germany, Portugal and Netherlands. You could go to one of those second two and build your way up to a big league, or you can impress one of those mid-table German clubs and see if they'll hire you. But they like their German coaches, those Bundesliga clubs. I'd be careful.'
'So you're saying my best bet is to stay put, failing which you think I should go to a French club. Is that right?'
'More or less. You can always look at a couple of German clubs as backup. I know a bloke who's done some work for Hoffenheim. We can get you in the door there if you want, along with a couple of places in France. I'd suggest Nantes for sure, and either Rennes or Bordeaux.'
'You're the agent. Get me in wherever you can. I'll do the rest.'
What will be Indi's next move? Will he finally take over at Brighton and lead them to the promotion that's eluded them for years? Will he build a great team away from the glare of the world in France? Or will he take over at a relatively prominent club in the form of 1899 Hoffenheim? Let me know what you want to see. The answer will be revealed in the next couple of days!

Newport County A.F.C.
August/September Update
SpoilerLeague Match 1Spoiler
Newport County - Northampton (3-0)
Byrne 12'
Arteaga 29' (pen)
Boden 81' (Gardner)
You couldn't ask for a better start to the season, especially at home. A big error by the Northampton back four lead to Byrne's opening score and then one third of the way through the game Arteaga converted from the penalty strike. Newport was able to play possession from there on out then put the final nail on the coffin on a counterattack.
Capital One Cup - Round 1
Bury - Newport County (0-0, 4-2 PK's)
The visitors played their League 1 opponent very evenly, defending very well throughout the game, but they were unable to convert the few shots they had and then repeated their PK effort from pre-season to bow out of the cup in disappointment.
League Match 2
Notts County - Newport County (1-2)
John-Lewis 30' (Byrne)
Campbell 47'
John Lewis 82' (Byrne)
Marccelino's squad proves their opening day win was no fluke by keeping the home team relatively quiet on the score sheet. Campbell was a pest all game long but also erratic and although Notts had twice as many shots as Newport only half of them were on target while Newport Roy Carroll work with every one of their shots while also winning possession with 56%.
League Match 3
Newport County - Yeovil Town (0-1)
Laird 54'
Newport suffers their first loss of the season in a tightly-contested battle against a stingy Yeovil squad that made shooting at their goal difficult. Newport was only able to get 2 shots off, neither one of them on target, while Yeovil was on target with 3 of their 4 shots and more importantly scored the only goal of the game to escape with the 3 points.
League Match 4
Dagenham - Newport County (1-0)
Boucaud 23'
What's worse than a 0-1 loss? Two of them in a row. Newport's offense was once again errant, this time getting 6 shots off but only being on target once. Dagenham was 3/5 on their shots and were able to convert early in the game then hang on to their lead to continue a good start for them early in this season.
J. Paint Trophy
Newport County - Peterborough (1-2)
Washington 10'
Gardner 51' (Byrne)
Washington 58'
Newport was not in good form coming into this game and Peterborough all but sealed the deal when they scored the go-ahead goal just 7 minutes after Newport had scored for the first time in two and a half games. Newport held possession 52% of the time but only had half as many shots (and shots on goal) as Peterborough and they leave a tournament early for the second time this season. "It's disappointing to suffer two really tough defeats in tournaments so far," Marccelino said. "These tournaments are actually a big priority for us so we can improve our budget so we will definitely look to do better in the F.A. Cup."
League Match 5
Newport County - Exeter City (1-0)
Arteaga 74' (pen)
Newport bounced back from three rough games to get back on the winning column with a very solid performance against Exeter, even if their only goal came from the penalty strike. It could had been at least 2-0 but Christy Pym saved a penalty shot from Gardner earlier in the game.
League Match 6
Cambridge United - Newport County (3-0)
Corr 10'
Core 43'
Berry 45'
Newport's first game with their B squad did not end up well as the home team got on the board early and held a comfortable lead at halftime that Marccelino's B squad was not able to cut into. It'll be interesting to see how Marcelino handles his starting lineup the next time the team is scheduled to play 2 games in 3 days.
League Match 7
Newport County - York City (0-1)
Summer field 54'
Disappointment was the end result yet again in another game where Newport was unable to get much going offensively. Not much else to say here.
League Match 8
Wycombe - Newport County (2-3)
Byrne 44' (Arteaga)
Gardner 45+' (pen)
McGinn 57'
Hayes 69'
Arteaga 72' (O'Sullivan)
Could this be a turning point for Marccelino's squad? After jumping out to a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half Wycombe was able to even up the score with 20 minutes left and bad thoughts surely were taking over on Newport's side. But the Exiles got back on the horse right away and O'Sullivan found a streaking Arteaga for what would be the game-winner and 3 very needed points.
League Match 9
Newport County - Barnet (1-0)
Arteaga 20' (Gardner)
Byrne - sprained knee, out 3 weeks
Newport closed out the month with another key victory in a game that was closer than they had planned. Gardner's free kick from the right upper corner of the box found Arteaga between two defenders but the Venezuelan rose higher than the defenders and accurately headed the ball home for what would turn out to be the only score of the game. However, a small loss was suffered when Byrne suffered a knee injury in the 12th minute although he managed to finish the first half.

Review: Not bad. You would love to turn some of the L's into at least draws but it's been a fair shake for the most part. Gardner has been everything you could wish for taking total command of the midfield while the focus is shining mostly on our forwards. John-Lewis has been a ghost outside of his 2-goal game and Arteaga has also struggled to start the season although 2 goals in his last 2 games is a very good sign. We're playing solid defense for the most part but we need the offense to score some more for us. O'Sullivan will sub in for Byrne due to injury but we need to find a new backup CM since O'Sullivan is on short loan. Oliver Burke was also obtained from Nottingham Forest on a 2-year loan.
Adam Adeyemi, our youth scout in England, sent us his first monthly report and as a result two additions have been signed to the youth squad:
- Bondz Moore (LW, 53 OVR, 78-94 POT): This 16-year old was so well spoken of in Adeyemi's report that his small size (5'0", 134lbs) was no issue. He is speedy and has been performing well in drills so far.
- Jack Giles (RW, 57, 65-85): This 17-year old is working hard to earn an opportunity to be called up to the senior squad before the end of the season.
Starting XI
The Roster
Goalkeepers: Joe Day (62 OVR), Joe Green (50 OVR).

The Blades
August
SpoilerSheffield United 0 - 0 Coventry City
MOTM: Charles-Cook
Match Summary: Sheffield United unveiled their new style under new manager James Beattie, and it fell flat. They dominated the match, but their ineffectiveness in front of goals saw several chances squandered that should have been in the back of the net.
Capital One Cup
Sheffield United (4) 0 - 0 (2) Ipwsich Town
MOTM: Gerken
Match Summary: In the second match of the year it looked to be more of the same with several missed chances. 10 registered shots on goal, but no goals. Once it went to penalties though the players were on target. All four shooters put the ball into the net while Ipswich saw their third shooter sky it over the bar and the deciding 4th attempt was saved well by Howard on a dive to his left.
Blackpool 2 - 1 Sheffield United
BLP - Paterson 4', Little 47'
SHU - Sammon 59'

Match Summary: Another poor performance from the Blades as two crucial mistakes by the defense put United in a hole that was too deep to climb out of. Sammon ended up registering the first goal of the season for the club, but it didn't mean much in the end.
Sheffield United 1 - 1 Port Vale
SHU - Freeman 17'
PVL - Moore 42'

S****horpe United 0 - 0 Sheffield United

Match Summary: Neither team separated itself from the other and few chances were registered for each side. The scoreline at the end was very much representative of how the match went.
Sheffield United 1 - 0 Wallsall
SHU - Baxter 47'
MOTM: Woolford
Match Summary: The Blade's blitzing style of offense continued and this time they walked away with a win after Baxter turned his defender and fired across the goal. A red card in the second half all but ruined any chance of a come back for Wallsall and Adams almost capped off the win but his shot deflected off the post.
