I'm still a few weeks away, but I should officially have the Xbox One hooked back up on August 1! With only a few months until FIFA 17, I wanted to start up one final CM. That said, I do want to be a little bit different and try out a middle of the pack club in one of the major European leagues that is not the BPL.

this is a great short list you put together. I'm partial to Torino because of Josef Alexander Martínez but I always struggle to find a position for him. Is he a striker? Is he a winger? Can he play in that CAM role behind a lone striker? His movement is outstanding but elsewhere he's tough to pin down.

You can't go wrong with either of those teams though

Ah, okay, now the missing December update makes sense. Hopefully Henrique does well for you.

I was actually serious when I said that I was surprised you didn't sell any big players as you usually tend to sell them. Just look at what happened to Thuram at Newport.

I voted for Hoffenheim because, and I really feel like a broken record now, they are in the Bundesliga. Additionally, they have a very interesting squad with a brilliant centre back partnership, talented attack consisting of Mark Uth, Andrej Kramaric and Kevin Volland or Sandro Wagner, depending on whether you transfer players manually, and they have a gem in midfield in the form of Nadien Amiri. As Rabbit said, all of those teams are great options, though!

A very boring game. We had the better chances but we were lacking in quality in attack. The squad was slightly rotated for this match which could have been the reason but we still should have come out of this match with something.

Our poor play had carried over from the Fulham game for over three quarters of the match until I decided to substitute Yaya Sanogo in the 75th minute for Jake Seager. The 22-year-old was issued a knee brace for the game after recently recovering from a knee injury. Five minutes later, Tiago Silva breaks through into the box, cuts inside on his left foot and delivers a pinpoint cross along the grass to the back post where Seager slides in and pokes the ball home with his braced left leg.

Only five minutes later, Compton smashes the ball along the ground and into the area where Seager takes an exquisite touch before bending it around the keeper with tremendous power off the outside of his boot for his second.

Florian Thauvin ruins our day as he cuts in onto his left foot and he’s given enough space just outside the box to smash a shot along the grass and into the bottom right corner for a point.

Compton, at right wing today, chases the ball down and wins it off Ross Johnson before sprinting away on the counter. There’s men left over on the left so Compton feeds the ball to Seager in the middle who then lays the ball off for Ameobi coming in from the left who places his shot into the top left corner despite a slight brush off of Begović’s fingertips.

Luis Gil threads the ball through the defence in the 29th minute. Julian Weigl competes with Gallego to win the ball and the Newcastle player tries to slide and get his toe to it but misses; apparently, this infringed Weigl from running onto the end of the pass which means it’s a red card for Gallego although there was no indication of the chance being stopped because of the tackle.

We were lucky to win this match, Gil hit the crossbar and Josip Drmić fluffed a one-on-one chance. Jake Seager won man of the match against his former club.

With six minutes left of regulation time, Sanchez Ayala breaks into the box from the left before being fouled by Nastasić. Andy Ashton steps up to take the penalty and he places the ball into the top left corner which was too high for the keeper to save.

The header is clearly going wide but Simon Mignolet takes it upon himself to dive and flap the ball out to the right side of the box where 22-year-old Frenchman Cédric Thauvin volleys home at the back post in his first start for Newcastle.

A ball over the top allows Nascimento to run unmarked into the box. Kris O’Hara tries to get to the ball first but is left in no man’s land as a pass across the goalmouth allows Lazar Marković to slot it home into an empty net.

Robert Bauer tries to slide in to beat Balotelli to the ball but ends up catching only the man and as a result, he receives his marching orders after two yellow cards.

Origi slots the ball through the middle just before the hour mark. Marković drifts in from the left before poking the ball over O’Hara for a sublime goal to make the score 2-1 to Liverpool.

Winter Transfer Window Update

OUT: Marcus Thuram (ST, 71 OVR), sold to Bury for €4.5 million. David Fox (RM, 68 OVR), loaned to Bradford City on short term. Gregorio Miranda (LB, 67 OVR), loaned to Brighton for one year. Hayato Matsuki (GK, 66 OVR), loaned to Dagenham for one year. Tafari Hunt (CB, 65 OVR), loaned to Rotherham Utd on short-term. Bondz Laslie (CB, 63 OVR), loaned to Barnet for one year.

Transfer Window Recap

Despite the excellent success they're experiencing this season, this transfer window was a reminder for The Exiles that when it comes to the transfer market they are no where close to the level of their competition. A limited budget made Newport County dependent on whatever possible sales they could complete before they could make significant acquisitions but unfortunately for them the bulk of offers that came their way were for their attacking trio of Gordon-Ambrose-Thuram. Initially Marccelino was hesitant to entertain any offers for any those three players but eventually he warmed up to the idea of dealing Thuram for the right price. Both Bury and Colchester met the asking price of €4.5 million (Thuram's market value was €2.2 million) but the French striker chose Bury, who rewarded him by increasing his wages from €2K to €10K. However, this transaction didn't happen until near the end of the transfer window and at that point Newport County seemingly decided to focus on the future rather than the second half of the season, which means one of the club's top-ranked academy-graduates, Kjetil Ringdal Støvland, an exciting prospect from Norway will be Thierry Ambrose's partner up front for the rest of the season.

Farfán is unlikely to displace Clark Gordon at CAM but he's expected to take over at RM with his pace and crossing ability while providing the sort of veteran leadership The Exiles' roster currently lacks. Maguire is an experienced player in the English Football League and should fit in well from the get-go and battle the struggling Sebastian Vegas for a starting spot. Reports indicate The Exiles had reached a pre-liminary agreement with Manchester United striker Anthony Martial but sources indicate Marccelino had a late change of heart due to the wage costs of the deal as he tried to avoid handicapping the club for the rest of the season. Reports also indicate the club made strong efforts to reach a deal with Italian goalkeeper Mattia Perin on pre-contract but the player ultimately decided he didn't want to play in a lower league. Nonetheless, the fact that the club once again looked into a goalkeeper sort of tells us Emiliano Martinez' job may be in jeopardy. Truth be told he's been a fine GK for The Exiles over the last 2-3 seasons but you have to wonder if he's BPL material once and if Newport County succeeds in achieving promotion once again.

Manager's Thoughts
Our form in the TIM Cup continues to be amazing as we got a 2-0 win against Serie A side Genoa in the first leg of our Semifinals encounter. Now we just need to hold that advantage on the road, and we'll be off to the Final at the end of May. In the league, we had 2 crazy matches against Pro Vercelli and Livorno, with our luck being on opposite ends. Against Pro Vercelli, we were saved with a 90th-minute penalty from Eros Schiavon to take all 3 points. However, against Livorno, we blew a 2-0 lead when they finally evened the game in the 90th minute themselves. I was very upset at that result, but our team bounced back with two consecutive victories, so it shows we didn't dwell on the disappointment.

March opens on the road against Genoa in Leg 2 of our TIM Cup Semifinals showdown. We hold a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, so as long as we don' collapse, we'll be through. I'm not going to say we will be parking the bus, but our game plan will certainly reflect our situation. We also have a big Serie B match against 2nd place Cagliari in Sardinia. They can't stop winning or scoring goals recently, so that will most likely be our most difficult match in the league to date. A draw would be sufficient, with wins in the other games.

Currently no team in the Bundesliga stands a chance against us! Leverkusen had a few solid chances but overall the game was controlled by us. A strong second-half performance by our Hungarian attackers was enough to earn us the three points.

Filip Kostic sprained his ankle and will be out for four weeks.
Maximilian Philipp sprained his knee and will miss three weeks of action.

December 2017

Hannover 96 1 - 0 VfB Stuttgart

This is a horrendous result for us. Losing against the worst team of the league is simply embarrassing, although Hannover played well. Hiroshi Sakai scored the only goal of the game from a rebound and that was enough for Hannover to earn the important three points.

We will play against Saint-Etienne in the first knock-out round of the Europa League.

VfB Stuttgart 0 - 0 Hertha BSC

Even though the scoreline doesn't indicate it, this match was an interesting one. We were second while Hertha were third and both teams were looking for the win. We had a few very good chances in the first thirty minutes but Rune Jarstein in Hertha's goal did a great job to keep the ball out of his net.

Unbelievable. First we lost to bottom of the league Hannover in the league and now they knocked us out of the DFB Pokal. To make matters worse, we are the reigning champions of the competition. What an upset this was for us.

It was first against second in the last game of the hinrunde, or the first half of the Bundesliga season. Both teams fought hard and had some good chances so in the end a draw was a fair result. Balázs Dzsudzsák put us into the lead after Christian Pulisic crossed the ball into the box. The Hungarian took the ball beautifully under control and curled it past Manuel Neuer with his third touch. Bayern's Jerome Boateng equalised the game with the last touch of the game as he shot the ball past Ramazan Özcan in goal in stoppage time.

My Thoughts

League Form - We have done an amazing job in the league as we have only lost two games and we are second in the league, which is incredible. We have been in very good form...

Legendary Time - ...maybe even in too good form. I'm actually a little bit annoyed that we are doing this well in the league because it's extremely rare to see a newly promoted team challenge for a top four, or even a top six finish in real life. I also want a bit more challenge. That's why I'm turning the difficulty up to Legendary.

Cups - Losing to Hannover, and getting knocked out of the DFB Pokal because of that, was a huge disappointment and a real upset. Both the board and I expected a better run in the domestic cup.

At the same time our performances in the Europa League have been solid after a sluggish start. We were able to top our group and will face a beatable opponent in Saint-Etienne in the next round.

Players - I have been impressed by the majority of the team. Ramazan Özcan has been good in goal, Kevin Großkreutz and Emiliano Insua have really stepped up their game from last season, the centre backs are doing well, and Serey Die has been solid, although he will lose the starting spot to Ádám Nagy soon. The captain Christian Gentner has also been solid. Filip Kostic has been in good form on the left while our attacking trio of Dzsudzsák, Zwolinski and Wood (plus substitute Nikolic) has done a great job so far.

Nemanja Nikolic has scored seven goals in the league and he has scored the third highest amount of goals in the league. Lukasz Zwolinski has netted six in the league while Bobby Wood has gotten five in the league and a few more in other competitions.

Filip Kostic, Hany Mukhtar and Christian Pulisic have all assisted five goals in the league, while our new signing and star man Balázs Dzsudzsák has scored seven goals and assisted one more in thirteen appearances.

As far as flops go, there is only one of them: Sandro Wagner. The big striker started eight competitive games for us, and after failing to find the back of the net in any of them, he got dropped out of the team. Now the 28-year-old is rottening in the reserves as we have run out of patience with him.

Transfer Targets - I'm only looking to get rid of Wagner and most likely replace him with a capable striker.

Youth Academy - We have sent three youth scouts to Germany, Croatia and the Czech Republic respectively to find some talented youth for our club.

The next update will consist of our winter transfers and the couple of games we will play.

That said, I do want to be a little bit different and try out a middle of the pack club in one of the major European leagues that is not the BPL.

Season 1

The Sky Blues

Introduction

Ricoh Arena, it was 2 years ago Coventry were forced to leave this stadium due to financial problems making the ground untenable. And only 1 year ago since they returned to the stadium after extreme protests from the supporters. The financial situation, while improved, is still seeing the club post numbers in the red at the end of each season. The club has merely been trying to stay afloat since entering into administration in 2013 which has left them perpetually stuck in league one with finishes of 15th, 18th, and 17th over the past 3 seasons.

So what am I doing here? Well, I am the new manager of Coventry City Football Club.

They know I wasn't their first choice, I know it, hell even the supporters know it. The club saw one target after another turn them down until they worked far enough down the list to find a manager who was either ambitious enough, or crazy enough to accept this position. I'm still trying to figure out which of the two applies to me. I've now stepped into a situation with a lot to prove, and the club has no money for me to work with.

Coventry, despite being an old club, has a pretty unremarkable history. They did manage to win a major trophy when they took home the FA Cup in 1987, but other than that nothing of note is really worth bringing up. As I mentioned earlier, the club entered into administration in 2013 after spending the previous decade in the second division. Prior to that they were a mainstay as a mid table club in the first division, and were even one of the founding members of the Premier League. But, those days are seemingly far in the past now.

It's time to get to work and after my first meeting with the board, they've outlined their expectations for the season. These bastards actually expect nothing less than a league title. It's beginning to make more sense why so many managers passed on this job. So now I have to take a squad that isn't mine, find ways to improve it with essentially no money, and be sure to win the league in the process. I'm starting to think I am more on the crazy side of why I took this job.

After taking some time to review the squad, I realize that it is full of several young, but promising players. There is some veteran presence sprinkled in, but this is clearly a team built for the future, which isn't exactly beneficial to my job security. Nearly half the squad is in the final year of their contract, meaning I will have to set aside some of my allotted funds for the purpose of renegotiating the contracts of those I feel meet the quality I expect at the club. Outside of that, some needs are apparent, the main one being a goal keeper. Defenders are another need, but we will see how far the money will stretch us.

It looks like all eyes are on me. Time to bring this lot together and figure out how to make it work. It's only my livelihood on the line.

10cabee: Now that was the match up we've all been waiting for this season! I really like that you decided to make it it's own separate update. Ronaldo went to work on you early and I'll be honest, when you went down 2-0 I was so disappointed that Exeter was going to get the better of you. Turns out I shouldn't have lost faith! Love that you battled back to tie it and it looked like the game was worth every bit of the hype. Other than that I am thrilled to see you at the top of the table while Exeter is stuck in 9th despite the squad you left them with. You're really proving yourself as a manager in this season.

Simppu: Your commentary on your penalty woes gave me a good laugh! The first and the last months were your least impressive, but you really dominated in the stretch in between. Nikolic and Zwolinski really were great for you and then they both seemed to disappear in December which is where you seemed to have a bit more trouble. I can't believe that Hannover gives you so much trouble too! I'm looking forward to your results for the second half of the season playing on legendary.

Vrabbit: Newport - Like you mentioned, the draws to close out the month cost you a bit but you are right there within striking distance of not only an automatic promotion, but winning the league even. I think you have a real shot at it too going into the second half of the season. The league assists leaders list cracks me up!

You definitely had an interesting transfer window. Getting over double the value for Thuram is a good piece of business and I will be watching closely to see how Støvland does trying to fill his shoes for you. I like that you went with Farfan, I know you were back and forth on who to bring in. It will be interesting to see what he comes in at next season as far as overall and physicals. Also, I love the Maguire signing. I had him in a past career and he is a rock in the back.

Kayserispor - Unbeaten and it could have been even more if you had taken a win in either or both of those last two games. Still, you're 4th and the gap isn't large at all so I expect to see you climb up there and challenge with the big boys. Peñaranda really racked up the goal tally in this one too. Your academy is also loaded up with talent so this should be fun to watch going forward.

You didn't give up anything in the transfer window so nothing to argue with there. Henrique and Thiam are some nice additions too. If a contract could have been worked out for Turuc you could have made some big waves in this window, but I guess it wasn't meant to be just yet.

SMH: You're doing really well with Avellino and the run you are making in the cup is nothing short of impressive. I really hope you can hold that 2-0 advantage going into the second leg. Getting a chance to win the TIM Cup would be amazing. What impressed my in this update is how spread around your goal scoring was. You are really getting a lot of people involved.

Chico: Pigott is still a man on fire. Good win over Portsmouth, but man it hurt seeing that loss in the J. Paint Trophy. It's a meaningless trophy, but it's a trophy nonetheless! The red card really made it too hard to defend your lead. The B team didn't do much to make up for it later either with that 0-0 draw. They were unstoppable early in the season, but it's really dropped off since then. Sitting top of the table and Mackail-Smith's return gives a lot of hope going forward. You know how two big scoring threats and I'm interest to see how you keep them both involved.

Moose: Wow I thought that was a horrible second yellow on Noble against Newcastle. Ref was clearly on the payroll there. Following that up with an injury is about as ugly as a start you could have asked for. Wijnaldum's strike was unstoppable but it sucks that you had to play man down for the entire game pretty much or else this would have turned out differently. I swear that guy always scores against me too, he seems to play so well in this game for Newcastle. That Kouyate goal against PSV was such a beautiful build up, exactly how the game is meant to be played! I can't believe they came back to tie it though, but that winner from Antonio was nice. There's nothing as rewarding as your keeper starting a counter with a long punt up field.
