Haven't played in a while, but just fired up my Liverpool save. Left off just after a huge 1-0 win at Old Trafford.

So far we've won the Community Shield, European Super Cup, and Club World Cup. We're in the semis of the Carling Cup agains Wolves, play Spartak Moscow in the first knockout round of the Champions League, and Bristol City in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup.

@ thegoons21 thanks and good luck in your season.

        Just finished my 2nd season

I lost to Man City in the semis of the Europa League 3-2 on aggregate. Liverpool then beat them to win it all. Boca Juniors offered me the managerial job, I was really interested but I declined.

          Heartbreaking!

At least you can be proud of winning that penalty shootout.

Speaking of fm, you ought to get in touch with rsnomar so we can get that world cup over with.

I've personally decided to wait until the next patch this week before launching an all out effort at starting a good career save. My freaking Blackpool save is broken, it crash dumps on the same day.

Started a game unemployed with a professional reputation, in March 2011. Looking to make this a career game, spanning multiple clubs.

Holidayed a bit and wound up Aris FC, in Greece, with 5 games to play.

After the first game (scoreless draw at Larisa), here's the table:

As you can see, it's quite close at the top. I believe the top team qualifies into the Champions League, whilst teams 2nd through 5th qualify for the European Places Playoff.

I play the following teams: vs. Ast. Tripolis, at Xanthi, vs. Kavala, at Atromitos.

I'm going with the following formation:

I'll update after these last four games.

So it's settled, the regular season has finished. My five matches in charge:

Leaving the league table to look like this:

Our 3rd place finish qualifies us into the European Places Playoff. Six matches, home and away against each club.

I've never played in the Greek league. Why do the top 3 teams get 2 points to start in that playoff? Can that change, or is it 2 to the top 3 no matter what?

"In the play-off for the UEFA Champions League, the teams play each other in a home and away round robin. However, they do not all start with 0 points. Instead, a weighting system applies to the teams' standing at the start of the play-off mini-league. The team finishing fifth in the Superleague will start the play off with 0 points. The fifth place team’s end of season tally of points is used to calculate the sum of the points that other teams will have. The point difference of each of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th team from the fifth place team is then divided by five(if the result is a decimal number it is then rounded to a full number, with .5 or more being rounded up) and the resulting number respectively for each team is the number of points with which they will start the mini-league."

So basically, PAOK had 44 points.

                  AEK (54) - 44 = 10. 10/5 = 2
                  Aris (54) - 44 = 10. 10/5 = 2
                  Panathinaikos (53) - 44 = 9. 9/5 = 1.8, rounded up to 2

Basically, because teams 2-4 were so close in points, we all ended up with with 2 points to start the playoff round.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

Missed out on the second CL spot, but secured a UEL spot. Overall, I'm pretty happy.

Definitely glad to be in Europe next season. I probably would have resigned if I hadn't made it.

Going to be a bit of turnover over the summer break. Will be bringing in a new ***. man, as my current one (who's contract is up June 30) is decent, but there are better candidates out there.

Have some key players leaving me, due to their loans expiring. Nery Castillo will be returning to Shakhtar, whilst Raul Bobadilla will head back to Gladbach.

I've signed two players on pre-contracts already:

Perez is expected to start at either MCL or MCR (ball winning mids), although he could do the trick at MC (deep-lying playmaker) if needed.

Mantzios will compete for a starting spot up top, at STR (target man).

There are lots of good players available on frees, so I'm hoping to secure at least a couple more.

Of course, there will also hopefully be some players leaving. Mostly players who are either over the hill or don't particularly fit into my system.

Anyway, back at Aris we have three more additions:

Luirink will start, while Reinhard and Rzezniczak will be backups at their respective positions.

They are a Kazakhstani club, and have played in the Kazakhstan Premier League since it was founded in 1992. To date, their biggest achievement is the third place in 1995 and 2007. They were one of the leading Kazakh teams prior to the fall of the Soviet Union. They play at the 19,000 seat Shakhtyor Stadium.
