Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Nice Mo. I also got my first ever winner of that award this year. Leandro Damiao had a year where he scored over 40 goals and was the Golden Boot winner at the World Cup.
Quick update on Sampdoria. Completely disappointing performance in the Europa League. We got to the group stage, but do not have a chance to advance after going 0-3-2 in the first 5 matches. Got kind of a tough group with Galatasaray and Olympiacos. Then against some weak Czech team, I blew a 2-0 lead to let them draw at their place then lost 2-1 in a match where I hit the post 3 times and blew two sitters. SMH.
However, the league is going well so far - 4th place through 12 matches and 5 points out of 1st. I signed a bunch of players in the offseason, most of the moves were for depth, but the two big signings were left winger Yohan Mollo from Granada for 19.75 mil and right-winger Oscar from Internacional for 19.25 mil (unfortunately, he went down with a 4-month injury that he's about to return from). Luckily, a bargain signing, Simone Pepe has stepped in at that position just fine. It has given my attack much more bite. After a first season of struggles, Fabio Borini is finally putting some goals in now that he has some players up front with him.
Those two signings have allowed me to move from a countering 4-4-1-1 to a 4-2-3-1 with more attacking options.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 07-28-2012, 10:18 PM.Comment

The day of my UCL quarterfinal match vs Bayern, Sevilla plucks my beast assistant coach, Kang Chul. **** you Sevilla. I now don't have an ast. coach for my biggest game of the season. This guy was with me for 10 seasons.YNWA

I can't ask for more from this team in these two games. I was without my starting ST Mchunu (13 goals in 12 games) for the first game and for the second game, I was without my AMC and leading goalscorer Ronaldo, while Mchunu was forced to start the game at 89%. 11 yellows in the second leg; pathetic officiating. A valiant effort boys.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Finished 5th in the league with Almeria and qualified for the Europa League which is a bit disappointing to say the least. Winning the Copa del Rey (for the 4th time) was a saving grace. I'm looking forward towards next season and I think I'm going to switch formations to run either 2 or 3 strikers as I'm super deep up top.
The Argentina coach was fired after one game in the World Cup, I was offered the job, and will be taking over just for the tournament (I hate managing more than one team at once). My WC group is Benin, Cyprus, and Qatar. The first game was a 1-1 draw with Qatar which makes the manager's firing a little more reasonable.
EDIT:
Well, it appears as though the former Argentina manager didn't call up a LB for this squad. Wow. I really am not inclined to run a 3 CB setup, so let's see what happens here. This attack though, is absolutely insanely amazing.Last edited by Tomasperez9; 07-30-2012, 11:14 AM.YNWA

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I'll say this about that: having a 6'8" CB and a 19 Long Throw RB who has the "possesses long flat bullet throw" trait is an absolutely deadly combination. Even with that being said, I'm going to extra time in the second round against Italy. Both my goals are off of set pieces this game and I'm not feeling too confident.
EDIT:
I conceded a penalty. Hit the woodwork twice in ET. Lost 3-2. Oh well. I immediately resigned.Last edited by Tomasperez9; 07-30-2012, 06:36 PM.YNWA

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I've played as galactic clubs (MCFC and Atletico and AC Milan) and as not so galactic clubs (Barnsley, Sunderland, and Leicester City). And I must say that my triumphs with the lower reputation clubs far outweigh that with the larger clubs. My greatest feat was a 2023 domestic cup double with Leicester, leading the EPL in goals scored. I've won a quadruple with City, trebles with Atletico, but I feel no more pride than when kept my team in the top flight. Its no fun when you're expected to win.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Had a complete computer crash so I lost all my Football Manager stuff when I was coming to the end of my first season at Roma. Was sitting 2nd behind Inter and was in the Coppa Italia Final. It's sad that I'm more pissed about losing my Football Manager stuff over all my other personal things that were on my computer. Guess that's what this game does to you.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Almeria before the new campaign (just took the home leg of the Super Cup 1-0 over Real Madrid). Not looking too shabby, although it is a little shallow. I have nearly $70M in the bank (sold $35M worth of players) so I may go after someone before the window ends in two weeks.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
In my Kaiserslautern save, I finished 4th 3 times in the past 4 years, so another berth in the Europa League for me. Leverkusen, Dortmund, and Bayern Munich always qualify for Champions League. Hoping I qualify for that next year, trying to sign Özil but that may be hard because I can't pay him the money he wants.Comment
