Re: Any FM-related questions? Ask them here

I can see where a small club would be coming from in a situation where a BLP team was always taking their youth players. But its still dumb.

Also that didn't apply to my situation. In fact, I was the smaller club in my situation. And out of the three players on their team I approached, only the one had the compensation. So that doesn't make sense either. Who decides who is worth compensation and who isn't. How is that fair. Doesn't that tell the other players, yeah you aren't worth anything. You're not as good as him. We don't care if you leave. Even though technically, they were the better players.

Is Football Manager similar to OOTP?
Are there online leagues you can join?

I really know nothing about the sport, but I'd be interested in playing in an online league if the sim is as deep and fun as OOTP.

OOTP and this are the 2 standard bearers for text sims right now. They're both great games. Which one you prefer would probably come down to preference of sport, but I think the two areas FM beats OOTP in are user interface (I haven't played the new OOTP yet, so I'm basing that on the past) and online. I like how FM is actually you and another person playing in the game at the same time instead of making changes and uploading like OOTP.

Thing with FM - for the most casual of soccer fans it is a long and unforgiving learning curve.

Time disappears when playing OOTP and FM.

Tim, get the new OOTP. It's awesome.

            Thanks Tim!

I actually like the sim aspect of OOTP.
I'm in a league now where we sim one week at a time and I'm good with that.

            Does FM provide something similar?
And do you know of any good leagues?

The last comment you made is worrisome for me as I know next to nothing about soccer.
I'm wondering if the learning curve would be too great.
The off the field stuff is what I'm completely ignorant to.
It sounds like there's no draft system. You simply scour the earth for 8YO prodigy's then sign them to your youth clubs and hope they turn into starts.
            Is that accurate?

I've just discovered this game and oh my goodness. This game could be bad for my marriage and family (lol).

Is it possible to change your team captain and vice captain? I assume so, you can change everything else lol...

Good grief this game is so deep I don't even know where to begin!

Go to tactics, and then on the top menu from that page you will see Captains as one of the menu options.

Be careful though, changing this mid season can have a very bad effect on the squad. If the player who you change to isn't as well loved in the team as the old captain, you are in for trouble. You can also set a list of people who will wear the arm band if the captain and vice captain aren't on the field. And changing the vice captain has less of an effect on people from my experience.

Thanks ZO, valuable feedback as usual. Yeah I haven't started my season. I haven't even bought the full game; still on Demo mode. Trying to wrap my mind around everything. It's so detailed it's nuts. It makes FIFA MM look like straight crap.

I've DL all the badges, kits, and faces and wow--this game is just so insanely deep for customization.

I'm just trying to decide a few things. Firstly, if I even want to purchase the game at this point--or just wait until next year?

Secondly, trying to decide if I want to use Arsenal, or a Championship side (Fulham or Middlesbrough).

Question, it appears the game actually keeps stats for the U21 and U18 squads? Like, there's actually a 'league' for them (like real life)? If so, this is nuts. I want this for FIFA so badly.

The "Youth Academy" in FIFA is so vague now in comparison. It's just like a holding pattern for them, with no real purpose.

Yes, depending on country/league you'll either have U23, U21, U20, U19, U18 or U17. Some have two, while others will just have one youth classification. They will play games in a league and friendlies. Also all real life cup competitions. You can even manage national youth teams.

And in countries like Germany where every club has II affiliate, you have those also. So if you play with Dortmund, you will have a Dortmund II squad which plays in its own league. And you can freely move players between them. And whats great is you can fully mange every aspect of it, or tell your assistant/director of football/head of youth development to handle everything.

I'd recommend checking this out, some one on here posted this for me last December. I found it really useful when getting started with the game.

Welcome! It's super fun, addicting, and realistic. One thing that you can download (if you want) is a database for every level of English Football (all the way down to Level 23). This adds teams below the Vanarama Conference and you can make a go at building a top tier team from lower on the ladder than League 2 in Fifa.
                      Teams:
                      Yankees // Broncos // Blazers // Syracuse // Devils // Southampton // Timbers

I think the demo cuts you off at a certain date, and if you think you can just do that over and over until late October, more power to you. But you'll probably want to just go ahead and pick up the full version of 16. You'll get your money's worth and then some over the next 5 months.

Biggest advice: Start with a big club in a big league on your first save, as you will learn a lot more about all aspects of the game.

                          Ha--I've started with Leyton Orient.

So, if I decide not to get 17, I assume there will be 'packs' with updated rosters for the 17 season, as well as the accurate schedules as well?

Whether I get it or not, why does this game come out so late (Nov. I believe?)?

With a vacation looming, I'm thinking of getting FM Touch for my tablet. I'd also be able to play during down time at work with the tablet version. Can anyone give me a reason not to get it?

Also, is it possible to get crest/emblem packs for Android?

I don't think the mobile version allows for any customization at all.
