I'd recommend 18 because there are some really cool additions that I think add a good deal to the game. I really like the Dynamics system they added, so far. And I'm starting to really like the scouting. I think the introduction of the scouting "packages" is a cool idea.

Get 18, it's great. They've continued to refine the match engine and overall realism, dynamics adds a new layer to management, it all just feels right. Be ready for a rather steep learning curve, though. It'll take a while to get a good feel for the game.

That's definitely something that needs to be stressed. It took me a couple legit saves before I felt like I really "got" it.

You will most likely have some frustrating things that you have to learn the hard way. For me, in one of my first saves, I lost a legit world class prospect because I didn't realize that other teams could negotiate contracts with him when he had 6 months or less left on his contract. The 50k in compensation I got for him was such a slap in the face.

The team talks when leading up to a big event are still broken. It's my absolute biggest pet peeve about this game.

My team is over-achieving, and we're playing in a promotion playoff. My assistant suggests a team meeting ahead of the occasion. I pretty much tell them "Wow, it's been a great season! Let's keep it going and go out there and win this promotion playoff!"

And they all react negatively, saying that promotion wasn't expected before the season, and I'm putting too much pressure on them. And all their morale drops. It's really BS. What locker room is going to universally react like that ahead of a big game?

Good to know it's still like that in 18. In 17, after noticing it didn't work a couple times, anytime my assistant would suggest a team meeting before a big match, I would tell my assistant to sod off.

Is there anyway to tell if your team is better at short or direct passing?

That's up to you to find out for the most part. Keep an eye on pass percentage and how many offensive opportunities you're getting when on both short and direct.

They also go well with specific styles of play depending on what you want. Want more possession? Go short...but if you don't have the greatest finishers you might not see a lot of offensive chances. If you want to play counter or attacking...try direct and see how the chances go!

When you start unemployed, do offers just eventually come in? Or do you have to actually apply for a job?

Depends on the manager you created, and the leagues you have loaded. Its all dependent upon reputation. The clubs rep, the leagues rep and your rep.

If you start with no badges and Sunday league experiences, you wont get any offers. But if you give yourself a couple badges and say regional experience, you should get one or two. But you should also still be applying.

Sending coaches for further licenses...this improves their attributes, I assume?

Do you guys find this to be beneficial, or just a waste of money?

Yeah, always go for the coaching badges.

In my Journeyman save (no badges, Sunday league reputation), the primary reason for me leaving my first job was because they were so financially unstable and wouldn't pay to send me on coaching courses.

I know FM can't be played on mobile (same save), but can I play on desktop and carry over to my laptop as well?

Looking at getting an iMac and was just curious. I'd assume so as it's via steam cloud?

Yes, you can do this. In the past, I actually did it via OneDrive. I just changed my game's save location to OneDrive, and it auto-synced across the devices. Steam's cloud saves should also work just fine.
