I'd rather be wrong when we sign someone than wrong when we don't.

At this point, I'm not getting excited about anything until it's an actual report in the press.

Very, very good point. Several of those RVP goals would not have happened without him. He also got too excited at times and would look for the killer ball too often. However, when nobody else on the team was willing to do so, I can't blame him that much.

It's one reason M'Vila is not a lock. We're not desperate at that position and we certainly don't spend money when we don't really have to.

I fear the day when Wenger leaves this club and we still have the same transfer philosophy that we currently do, because we're going to get kicked in the ***. He's been doing a pretty good job considering how those around us are spending. However, not sure if the next manager will be able to do the same with the current system.

I didn't include Song because a) M'Vila is a better defensive midfielder which is what we truly need and b) I got a funny feeling Song will be sold.

Arsenal should probably sell RVP this summer when his value is still high.
He's not going to sign a new contract.

He's almost 30 and so can only go downwards.
Better to sell him now and get good value than wait another season and see his value plummet.

Or keep him for a few more years while his talent is at the same level and make a serious push at some trophies.

I like that idea much better. You don't win by selling your best players, period.

i agree unless they plan on getting rvp type production out of someone else that is younger or cheaper, there is no reason to sell him. same with song, no point in pulling the trigger on mvila unless they plan on moving song, which would be unecessary.

unless they decide to open up their wallets up for a big time player, they should focus on just areas they need depth at.

Once a player e.g. RVP is at 30, his production will start to go down.
Especially true for strikers, not so true for goalies.
Wouldnt suggest selling RVP if he is mid or early 20s but RVP is getting to be 30.

I suggested selling RVP because he will fetch max dollars now as opposed to two years later.

Wenger also has brought in Poldolski and Giroud(rumor) and both of them would more than offset RVP.

So if a foreign club wants to buy RVP at a high price, selling him now would be a good move.

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***

All RVP did last season was score. He scored, scored, and then when he was finished scoring, he scored some more. To suggest that Giroud (if it is true we are going to sign him) and Podolski would more than make up for the best striker in the EPL is a bit of a reach.

And what happens if Podolski or Giroud get tired or hurt? Wasn't one of the main points of their signings to give us depth in case of an RVP injury, or to allow RVP to get more rest throughout the season?

If RVP chooses not to resign, then having Giroud and Podolski as insurance is fantastic. But why we would want to weaken our depth and get rid of the best striker in the EPL, solely because we won't be able to get as much money for him two years from now, is beyond me. The goal is to win trophies, not sell Van Persie for a nice profit.

I have a better idea. We keep our best player and sign others who can help take the scoring load off his shoulders. That way, he can actually sit some games out and even leave games when we're up by 3-4 goals.

Then, he can last even longer in his old age of 30.

Also, when you lose RVP you lose a lot more than just his goals. He's the captain for a reason. He has the grit, mean spirit and ******* tendencies that this team sorely misses sometimes. Without him, we're a hell of a lot softer in a league where you're severely punished for being so.

And if so, it's nice we're doing our transfer business so early. The last thing we need is for other clubs to come swooping in for our targets because we didn't move quickly enough.

I knew the Giroud deal was gonna go down. Way too much smoke to not be fire. All the reputable reporters in France were running the story and the French papers are no doubt the best country for legit Arsenal news.

M'Vila next. Then lets get a CB. Mix in a new deal for RVP.
