Well, the current report is that Arsenal have "tabled" a bid for Carvalho. But in the UK, that means presented, not withdrawn.

According to Sky Sports, Barca just bid for TVM5.

If he leaves I would like to see Arsenal go for Ron Vlaar, not sure if he would be up for being a back up though since he is getting regular games at Aston Villa....just a thought. Also heard they are looking at Arbeloa, that we be a nice versatile move he can play all across the back four.

Vermaelen to Barca is heating up, as apparently officials are in London to finish the deal. Also, Wenger has made another statement about him possibly leaving. If that happens, we'll surely be signing a CB.

I just don't see Reus leaving this year, and I don't see Arsene buying a forward, either. But I could be wrong, and I hope I'm wrong.

Although I still really want a real DM.

Good. We've done enough strengthening of our rivals in years past. I still don't understand why Barca would want TVM, but it's their loss.

And for £15 million too for a guy in the last year of his contract. Plus, if Cesc couldn't make it there, I have NO confidence TV5 will either. In time, he'll be right back in the same situation he is at Arsenal. It's a bad deal all around for him and Barca. The money is fantastic for us though!!! I wish them both all the best, cause it's a crazy deal but:

Arsene keeps saying he sees Chambers as a DM, so he certainly can't provide cover there, at CB, and RB.

If Chambers is cover at RB, and CB, that still leaves us short at CB. Unless Bellerin is staying to be cover at RB.

Even then, it's clear we have a few more signings to make.

No question we have still a lot of work to do. If Chambers was going to be a CB/DM then then Jenko would have stayed and not went to West Ham. We essentially only have 1 first choice CB fit to play right now since the BFG won't be ready till the first of the month. Plus we are facing Besitkas in the CL qualifier and can't just roll out any squad out against them. Plus we go to Everton and Leicster City before the first international break. This week will be a busy one for us in the market IMHO.

Good news is that Theo may be ready at the first of September.

I am sad to see Vermaelen go, he was loved by his teammates. I just hope a good replacement comes in because cover is really needed.

With Cesc the competition was a lot tougher. Barca, just like Spain, was already stacked in midfield. At CB, not so much. They have Pique (who has had injury concerns), Bartra (who's still a little raw) and Mascherano (who's playing out of position.) TV5 is pretty quick and a good distributor, something that Barca loves since Pique is not quick but also pretty decent for a CB with the ball. He gives them their first true ball-winner since a prime Puyol. Barca also acquired Matheiu from Valencia too.
