We haven't done that in the past and won't be doing anything close to it for a few years because we've done horrible, awful transfer business. When we've had to rid ourselves of players it's basically been that—us offloading them and getting nothing in return.

Our transfer business incoming must improve before our outgoing business, which can then hopefully improve our incoming business because we have money to spend which was generated by selling, which was available by smart buys. Mustafi, Elneny, Perez—these are the types of transfers which must end for us. If we can't sell for a profit, we're going to be stuck.

Not saying we're going to spend the type of money others are, but we're in the infancy of trying to set up something entirely new, and if it does work at all it's going to take several years.

I love Lucas Torreira, but he's the type of player we might sell in the Summer of 2020 or 2021 so we can buy two of him. I'm okay with that, which is why I'm not okay with seeing Sven leave as he seemed critical to this type of system working, but with our financial (owner) restrictions, it's the only system that we can do so I'm sure it'll continue forward.

I love Elneny and will not let you group him with Mustafi and Perez.

Though really, I don't have any strong feelings towards Perez, his signing was always a weird one.

I thought Mustafi was going to be solid as a centreback. I was so ****ing wrong.

If we break even on him or better I'll retract my grouping.

I doubt we will, I think he'll end up as one of those who just plays out his entire contract. He has no issue being out of the team or on the bench, or put in whatever role you want him to be in. I wish we hadn't paid 10m+ for him, but as a serviceable midfielder you could do much worse than Elneny

Last time Arsenal took 3 points on the road was November 25th. It’s time to change that today.

If we don't today, there is zero chance we get into the top four—zero. If we do, the chance remains incredibly small, but it's still there.

                Players out of today's squad:

Ramsey (knee), Aubameyang (ill), Ozil (ill), Xhaka (groin)

That’s it for me with özil.

I’m done with him. Get rid of him. For free, if that’s what it takes.

I do believe Ozil trained yesterday. May me wrong though not sure.

My goodness what an underwhelming performance.

However, at the end of the day, it’s 3 vital points.

Mustafi was shockingly poor today. I know that’s normal, but it really seemed to stand out today. He really makes Koscielny and Monreal look world class.

Jury is still out obviously, but I’ve been very unimpressed with Suarez. Not sure why he didn’t get a start today. Seemed a perfect opportunity against a far lesser opponent, and us needed some offensive creativity. I think he only touched the ball once or twice.

                    ———————-

Curious, for discussion, what players would you legitimately try to sell this summer, and/or let their contracts expire? I know a case could be made for most of them to go—but obviously that’s not realistic. So, what would you do, if it were up to you...?

                      1. Mustafi: Body of work speaks for itself.

                      2. Mhki: doesn’t justify his gross wages

                      3. Ozil: Clearly isn’t in Emery’s plans, isn’t getting any younger, and again wages.

                      4. Lichsteiner: clearly way past him prime, not sure why Jenko isn’t ahead of him.

In fairness, I think I'd only take SZCZ, Olly, and Ramsey out of the players that left this year.

                            Cech back in goal!

                            Cech
                            Mustafi/Kos/Monreal
                            AMN/Guendouzi/Xhaka/Kolasinac
                            Mkhi/Iwobi
                            Laca

                            Leno/Licht/Elneny/Torreira/Suzrez/Auba/Nketiah

Would've liked to see Suarez in the lineup, but I also understand that getting Xhaka some hopefully free game time to come back from injury is important as well.

I like that Emery is very much continuing with the "you earn your starting place" approach, which meant it was unlikely for Suarez to do so given he hasn't had the time yet.

I think we'll see him starting soon, though.

yeah, my approach in this game was essentially a "free" one so we can see what we have, but I do certainly appreciate his continued approach to the game.
