I would think that you'd want to name your 23 while you still have a couple friendlies left to play, so the chosen ones can focus on team building instead of worrying if they will make the squad.

              Either way, onwards and upwards.
I agree here 100%. I can understand leaving LD out for some of the young guys, but I can't figure out Davis over Donovan AT ALL. (This is coming from a Dynamo fan, mind you)

Your 2nd point is spot on too. We have a squad full of solid but not spectacular players now. LD was by far the most likely to make a game changing play in any given match.

I CAN'T BELIEVE WE LEFT DONOVAN OFF THE USA SQUAD! This is purely ridiculous after what Donovan has done for this team. I don't care if he is 32 years old and not as good as he used to be. He's still the heart & soul of this team. He's a threat period. I've lost what respect I had for Klinsmann. Geez!

I would never root against my home country team but this makes me care a lot less how we fair now. Donovan is the best USA soccer player ever & to treat him like this is very disrespectful. Others made this team that even younger are not better than Donovan at 32 years old.

I just want to beat ghana since they have knocked us out the last two world cups, as for Portugal and Germany well I guess anything can happen, maybe get a tie against Portugal and not get slaughtered by germany so the Gd is in our favor

I think that's what we have to "hope" for. Beat Ghana, tie Portugal, and stay close or tie Germany. Obviously we have to hope we get out with 9 points, but that's not gonna happen lol.

That would give us 4 or 5 points. If Germany beats Portugal and Ghana, Portugal loses to Germany and beats Ghana, and Ghana loses all three, It'd be Germany with 9, USA with 4, Portugal with 4, and Ghana with a big, fat, glorious zero.

Man, tight. Tight as hell. Why'd we have to get this ****ing group, man.

I think a lot of people underrate Ghana, I actually think we have a better chance of beating Portugal than Ghana

How could we underrate Ghana after last 2 WC? Just imo, reason Klinsmann picked nigeria warmup. There is a reason why LD is not on the squad, no way if he was in top form that Klinsmann would not pick him. Their is a method to his madness, believe that, he is thinking what is best for team right now, and maybe sees something in LD right now that isnt right. I think it's better he announce now rather than 2nd, either way distraction, and at least now will allow it to settle down some by 19th. We do have 3 matches to see his plan and roster in action, so can judge after. Just in case I have wifes team to root for, Colombia. Wish we had their group: Greece, Japan, Ivory Coast.

You saw the FIFA Pots...BS all the way. We were in the same pot with the other CONCACAF qulaifiers, despite more or less laying waste to them in qualifying. FIFA is easily the worst part of international football.

                              And EFF JK.

Donovan is legend in the US...should be captain, imo, over Dempsey who spends his time complaining and being dispossessed. that is, if Bradley isn't captain...it bewilders me that he is not...seems well-suited for the role.

Donovan doesn't have an equal on the squad in terms of skill set, experience, and poise. I'm not saying he's super-duper, but it's the truth. Not having him as a sub sounds even more ******** than not having him start. Last 25 mins of a tie game...who would be upset if JK put LD in the game?

JK surprised me when he didn't reward Eddie Johnson, who seemed to really take it up a level with the NT in recent performances...but leaving off Donovan is just a disappointment...

Not to mention a really bad play in terms of perception. If the US looks like Germany06 in the group stage, he will and should be second-guessed for not taking LD...the only way this can appear to be a "good idea" is if they make noise in the 2nd round. And my doubts about that happening just became greater.
