another sub par performance. 1 pt on the road is better than nothing I suppose.

I watched an awful stream. Should have been 2-1 if the ref played the advantage Altidore would have scored. Guatemala played really dirty.. Lot's of flops and pushing, but the ref "didn't see it".
Oh well. Still 1st in the group and the US doesn't have to go back there anytime soon.Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
I think it was a good performance. The pace of play was incredibly fast - just blazing fast. The ball skips very quickly, like playing on slick astro turf. Our boys controlled the ball pretty well for what aggression they had to face - surprised Dempsey got up a couple times, honestly - he was beaten up pretty good.
We got very lucky the handball by Bocanegra wasn't called; that could have easily changed the match completely.
I'm still upset about Howard's lack of an attempt to save Papa's free kick - he knew he was going to go towards his left side - like any free kicker does - why did he act surprised?
I wouldn't say it was a sub par performance at all. We had a lot of chances, just didn't take advantage - we looked a lot better on the attack and defensively sound for the most part.Comment

I think Howard wasn't expecting Pappa to shoot. Probably expecting him to step over and then Ruiz would shoot. Wasn't ready.Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
Howard was wrong-footed on that one. His weight was going the wrong way, and when he realized it, it was far too late to get anywhere near the ball. It was a combination of a really nice FK and Howard being slightly on his heels.Comment

Regardless, a good result I'd say - in a very harsh environment. Deuce's goal was nice, yes? I thought soComment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
It was a quality striker play from our only real quality striker, that's for sure.
I thought when we got possession with space that we wasted it a lot by flying foward too fast. The pitch did seem like US Open greens, so the more I think about it, the more I'm excusing some of the miscontrolled passes and forward balls. At times, we just looked disjointed, but the ball was bouncing and skipping around a lot.
I'm still disappointed in the draw. It makes the upcoming home and home with Jamaica very important.Comment

Agreed - the game's pace was out of this world fast. I wish there was another game right around the corner though - can't get enough USMNT action.Comment

I think Klinsmann learned a lesson and that is you can work guys only so hard. They looked great in the first 2 games but they look kind of fatigued after that. Hopefully he understands the double sessions are a bit too much for guys who are mostly just ended their seasons.follow me on twitter: www.twitter.com/eton_riflesComment

Big friendly tonight with El Tri at the Azteca. I'm calling Mexico 3-1. We don't have a full squad and they have brought in the big guns.
One thing to watch will be the back line for the US. Supposedly, Maurice Edu is starting at CB. If he can handle it, then it opens up some of the glut at CM and gives some nice depth at CB.Comment

the backline is a huge question mark and to a lesser degree, the midfield for this game as well IMO. Should be a fun game to watch regardless.Comment
