I don't disagree. But we're in the minority with that thinking. To most of the country Donovan is still one of, if not, the best players we have. We go to Rio and lose without him? He'll catch a lot for it. I only think JK is here for one cycle so I don't think he cares either wayComment

I'm taking a wait and see approach to see how he's playing for the Galaxy over the season. An in-form Donovan should have a place in the squad. If you move Fabian to LB more permanently, Eddie Johnson goes to the bench and you push Zusi to the left flank where he looked fine playing last night at times.Comment

I think the depth that Donovan adds will be necessary when the US starts playing elite teams next year. It may not matter as much when you play teams like Panama and Jamaica, but I want him out there when they play the best teams in the world.Comment

I hope Josh Gatt and Landon Donovan have the chance to play together at the Gold Cup. Josh Gatt has the pace of a young Donovan and really just has that gamebreaking ability young Donovan had. I kind of like the mix of vets and young guys on the preliminary roster. It'd be nice to see Jose Torres again, I remember his brilliant free kick against Slovenia. Hopefully youngsters like Joe Corona, Jack Mac, Corey Ashe, and Tony Beltran get a go as well.Comment

I feel like Jone is getting a little bit of a bad rep. Yes he had a poor game against Honduras and Cameron looked pretty well in his role but Jones still brings a ton of experience and physicality to our team. He's box to box and reads the game generally well, he's just a little reckless at times which IMO, a middie in his role should be.
I do like Bradley as the midfielder pulling the strings closer to attack but I also like his ability to transition us from defense to attack. He has the ability and confidence to play balls that only Clint would. Having options there is great but a 2-man team that plays interchangeably would be ideal.
There's no denying that Jozy is getting better service but he's also playing with more confidence. I'm of the belief that when strikers see the ball go in the back of the net it motivates them more. He's still young and improving so some of what we're seeing could be attributed to just overall improvement in his game that usually comes naturally with age and experience.Comment

Jones and Bradley are a force in the middle together. Both love to advance and both love to get physical on defense. Bradley has a better pass but I believe Jones is stronger in the air.
Jozy has a big year ahead of him.Comment

98.7% chance we qualify for Brazil.
In comparison, Mexico's chances stand at 58.3% And we have a nice chance to put a dent in that if Mexico doesn't finally score and win a match at home against Honduras (if Mexico wins that match, they are all but in). That's just fantastic.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 06-23-2013, 07:31 PM.Comment

Good point that I forgot too mention. Jones is our enforcer w/ Gooch no longer being able to play at the nat'l level.Comment

Yes, and I think Cameron would step in to that role in the midfield too. He does play for Stoke, so he's been directed to muck things up and destroy legs for the past year. I loved his closing down in that Panama match. When possession was given up, he was immediately a pest. Jones is certainly the first choice in this role right now, but - here again - it's nice to have a valid plan B.Comment
