Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
I don't know if he can walk right into our back 3 but he'll definitely compete and could rotate. As much as I would have liked to get VVD in January I really think we don't need him right now.
Cahill
Luiz
Dave
Ake
Zouma
Christensen
That's 6 CBs (in no order) for 3 spots and even with the added European games it's just enough cover to give everyone games.
If we're going to upgrade I think the obvious choices are RWB, CM, LWB (although I love Alonso), and maybe RWF.

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
I think Luiz and Dave are the only two with spots locked down for the future. I know Cahill has been great lately and has had a good season but his days are numbered.
Surely Ake can play wing back, he's pretty versatile right?
The clear need is an upgrade for Matic. A box to box that is a real threat going forward. Also like KG said, more depth/options at wing back for the CL push.
Still, it's not clear what Costa, Hazard, Cesc etc. could do this summer.
I'd like for Bats to get more of a chance. Still think he'd show some potential with more minutes.SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
People have been saying Cahill is our most droppable CB for years and yet 3 different managers have not dropped him.
I think it's possible we will see Dave get a runout at RWB. I know everyone thinks he's not good enough going forward, but come on. This is a guy who has adapted to 3 different positions in his time with Chelsea, each time remaining one of our best players. I think if he spent some actual time playing RWB he'd end up being great at that too.
Dave at RWB would also eliminate need for buying a backup, which would leave Luiz/Cahill/AC/Zouma/Ake for our CB positions.Comment

I mean if you guys don't want Cahill, I know of a team that can use CB options...Comment

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
Maybe I am being too harsh on Cahill. If nothing he's been very consistent. IMO there are better options available. I just can't get this picture of Lukaku putting him into a blender out of my head...

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
Of course there are better options, but this is what got us into last years mess. Replacing players who are good enough to win trophies, and legitimately love being at Chelsea, with players who are technically better but have zero ties to the club.
Chelsea is like the Uruguay of club football. We have highly talented players capable of amazing play, but with the mental strength to do whatever is necessary to get a result. Always playing for the shirt, and always playing for each other. We've always had a core group of players that loved Chelsea to help bring any new players along, that is part of our culture going back before Roman, and part of what makes us different from other top clubs.
Just because we CAN replace players like Cahill, doesn't always mean we should.
This is also, imo, why we should bring Lukaku and Bertrand backComment

Great win, great to see JT get a run out as well. Fans started singing as soon as he came on and didn't stop.
Excellent all around. Let's wrap this up and hopefully make it a double for his last season with us.Comment
