Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***

Other one deserved a post on its own.

For real, Costa is absolutely freaking useless. He doesn't make any runs ever, never shoots the ball, and is constantly going to ground. Oscar performed Costa's role better than Costa today, and this was just freaking Maccabi.

Remy is basically Inzaghi right now, except without the goals. Somehow our strike force has gone from unstoppable to worse-than-Torres in less than a year.

Costa hasn't even done anything to warrant getting this much of a chance to regain his form. Especially when we are shipping midfielders off left right and center after having 3 or 4 bad games.

Give one of the kids a chance (preferred choice), or get us a new striker (not ideal but better than sticking with Costa any longer).

Aside from Costa, I think that team that started today is our strongest. Man, Baba had some fantastic crosses, he looks to be gaining a lot of confidence too.

Imo more of that team with less Costa will see us getting our form back quickly.

Also, I still have a bad feeling about this weekend.

Obviously above me brings to light what I'm about to say, but after watching the first half of the Chelsea v Maccabi UCL game, i just don't understand what Costa is doing out there. I've admittedly only been a hardcore fan since 2009, but I can't recall a striker trying to score less than Costa. Absolutely brutal watching him play. The rest of Chelsea seem a little out of whack, the biggest problem though is Costa consistently puts Chelsea down to 10 men. Plus with the amount of time he goes to ground he's gotta have every train schedule in Europe memorized, his balance has to be 0 or 1 on FM. There were a few times watching him call for the ball when he was just clearly not open or doing anything positive. Shame really.

            No Costa again.

Assuming Dave is being rested for the Porto game, hoping Traore gets a few minutes but it will probably be Costa. That is definitely a very attacking lineup though.

Unfortunately he can't go out there and force them to attack effectively. Feels like these guys just don't give a damn.

This club has so many issues but they just need some luck. The football gods won't let them have anything this season.

Luck isn't the problem. They're not getting unlucky with these losses, theyre just playing very, very badly.

Bournemouth's goal was offside imo, that's bad luck. We were also inches away from scoring on a few occasions. Now we are playing fairly badly but we aren't getting any luck either.

It's not luck, it's just a bad decision. Everyone gets bad decisions for and against them, Chelsea have had plenty both ways in the past including this season. Thankfully, this place isn't like that but a lot of Chelsea fans will try to convince you that Chelsea only get bad decisions against them.

But it's detracting from the issue to say that bad luck is the reason Chelsea are where they are. Bad luck isn't the reason Hazard, Terry, Cahill, Ivanovic, Matic, Costa and Fabregas have all started this season terribly, 15 games into the season you have to stop talking about bad luck and realise that there is something really wrong with this Chelsea team.

It's not bad luck that every time the other team has possession, Chelsea's frontline doesn't track back at all. I've watched maybe 15 games across all competitions for Chelsea this season, and in every one of them the midfield and defence has looked more spacious than I've ever seen. The defensive solidity was the foundation for their success last year and their success a decade ago, and it's gone. They're not defensively solid and they're not clinical enough up top for that to be papered over in the same way teams like City are able to do. I can't remember in my entire life seeing Chelsea so close to the relegation zone halfway through the season. Even when they've been 'struggling' they've at least had a positive goal difference. But -7? That is ridiculous.

So no, luck plays a very small part in it but not enough so that they can complain about it. They're just not very good at the minute and they don't even look capable of mounting a big run of wins. Every time they lose you think "okay, they've got some easier games coming up, they can win those" and then they keep losing.

Something's going on there. On paper, this is a very good team. But they've been in poor form all season. Their defending is better but you guys need more. Other than Willian, no one has been consistent offensively.

Luck plays a huge part in sports, more than most fans are willing to admit.

That being said, we aren't doing ourselves any favors the way we have been playing. Success needs equal parts talent, luck and hard work. All 3 of those are an absolute requirement for success (in any facet of life), and right now we arguably only have 1 of the 3 (talent, but like I said, it's aeguable).

It's pretty simple really. The one thing you could always say about Jose is that his players always played for him and believed in what they were setting out to do. Jose has done everything in his power to piss his players off this year. It all started with underestimating (or maybe simply not caring) how much respect the locker room had for Eva Carneiro. Then he's selling the same garbage lines to the press "We did not deserve that result, the refs are out to get us, blah blah blah" He's completely lost the team, and his ego won't allow him to admit he's getting it wrong and change direction.

I think it's a combination of a lot of things. Eva, refusing to change tactics, not giving players who play umpteen hundred matches a year between club and country a rest when possible, etc. When you're not getting results, these things pile up.
