He's not the best manager obviously but one thing he can do is motivate players. I think he would have been a good stop gap until the end of the season but obviously you've chosen to go with Hiddink who isn't a bad option either!

Well, looks like Carlo will be taking over at Bayern. Pep to City is rumored to be pretty much done, but do you think Roman tries to horn in on that action?Comment

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
Pep won't come here unless he's given an unprecedented level of control, which could happen but I still don't think he would want to come here. There is just too much turmoil surrounding our club.
We are to the point where we kind of need to gamble on a lesser known manager in hopes they turn out great. Not necessarily lesser known, but just not a big name. We've scared off or fired all the current best managers in the world. Now would be the time for an AVB/Rodgers/Emery/Jardim, in hopes that this one of those is finally ready to make their official jump to managerial superstardom. Those 4 in particular have probably the highest potential ceiling out of the current "up and coming" managers, obviously whether or not they reach it is a different story.Comment

After the AVB "disaster", which really, come on he didn't get any time at all, I just don't see you guys hiring one of those. Y'all are getting Rafa Benitez again after Jose replaces him. You heard it here first.Comment

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
Jose built this team but a lot of them aren't Jose players. I'd have liked to see Jose given the January window to see who he would have brought in.
We've put ourselves in a bad spot, because having a manager of Jose's caliber was a huge pull when trying to sign world class players. We can offerlots of money, but with no CL and an unclear manager situation, we can't really offer anything more than City and United (if they get Pep/Jose).
Worst of all, we dumped Jose to make our players happy, but without CL and a top class manager, we might see those players leave the club in the summer. So then we are out a world class manager AND world class players.
Honestly, we might not have a choice BUT to gamble with another AVB.Comment

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
Funny thing is, AVB was only a disaster because he was trying to prematurely do what has needed to be done for a while; a full clear-out and new direction. We've kept the 9ld guard around for possibly too long, and gone in too many separate directions with no discernable style.

I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that we will get Pelligrini after Carlo goes to Bayern, Pep goes to Citeh, and Jose goes to United. What will be interesting is what happens with the Real job. I would much rather see Jose go back there OR manage Portugal but things could get interesting if Citeh end up winning some combination of the League + FA Cup/League Cup/UCL.
There are some interesting names out there:
AVB
Brendan Rodgers
Conte
Di Matteo
Mazzari
Unai Emery
Rudi Garcia
Emery is probably the "up and comer" of the group since the stink from AVB in the EPL probably hasn't fully worn off yet but TBH, I'd be happy with him. I think our players are better suited this time around, especially if we ever get John Stones. He also showed a willingness to play younger players, which we both agree upon is vital with RLC, Traore, etc... showing flashes.
I think our ability to pay top wages and the attraction of a big club in London will still allow us to compete with 2nd tier squads when it comes to buying players but this Jan window will be interesting.Comment

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
Jose didn't buy Willian or Dave.
Or Ramires now that I'm thinking about it.
It also seems like the board signed Falcao and Baba. My point was that Jose never really got the chance to build a brand new "Jose Team", though I personally think Jose has strayed from his "Jose Style".Last edited by Brahvocado; 12-21-2015, 12:33 PM.Comment

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
Really puts things into perspective though regarding how much support Jose was given by our board. Obviously nobody was complaining when Jose won us the league, but you have to think; if Jose had built a team from scratch, how many of these players would he have bought?Comment

Re: ***The Official Chelsea FC Thread***
Mou did buy Willian. So Willian, Pedro, Diego, Cesc, Matic (rebuy), Zouma, Ivanovic. That's 7 of our starting 11 with only JT preceding him. To say that this wasn't "his team" is far from the truth. His hand prints were all over this year's and last year's title winning side. Even more last year's because Rami was hurt for a while and the midfield pivot of Cesc & Matic worked. Even though he didn't buy Dave, he made him a LB when the season before Rafa played him exclusively at RB, something like 40 appearances there. These are "his guys", they just let him down IMO and it was evident last Saturday when they went out and played with passion and purpose despite Steve Holland rolling out the same formation and tactics in general. IDK, maybe it was way to show that Jose wasn't the problem and that it was the players.Comment
