Just part of the process.

absolutely, in fact, one of the people i brought to a game, i explained that part of the process going on is that America has very bad referees. What I find frustrating is that it's all privatised through PRO. With that, we haven't seen a lot of improvement since 2012 in the basics. In no way do I ever expect to any referee to ever get every call right. What I do expect is that the referee remains consistent, and can control the game. In fact, because the MLS is a little more rough around the edges, I think it's even more important for referees to establish control early in the game.

On that note, I'm not a terribly huge fan of railing on officials as a whole, there are people certainly more aggressive than I am, all I really want is consistency. I think that's all any fan really wants, and I'd like to see improvements over the years, instead of the same things happening over and over.

FC Cincinnati is joining the fold in 2019, Nashville and Miami are supposed to be 2020. Is Nashville going to be joining the West, or will Chicago be moving out West? How many more teams are there going to be?

Can we get to 16 on each side, have all the Eastern teams play each other twice, all the west teams play each other twice, and have the MLS Cup be the champions playing each other? Maybe the top 4 from each side?

Can we split into MLS/MLS2 and have 20 teams each?

It's a Don Garber world, we're just living in it.

Is there a reason to have conferences in MLS? For NHL/NBA especially I can understand since games can be any day of the week, but in MLS where games are typically on weekends, having a game or two a week, I think no conferences might be better for that.

Cutting down on travel expenses is still a big factor I imagine. I don't see the conference set-up going away anytime soon, unless MLS/MLS2 happens(highly unlikely)

            Re: MLS Discussion Thread

I think that we eventually move to a 3 or 4 conference alignment. If you do 3 conferences of 10 teams, you could play everyone in yours twice (18 games), and everyone outside of it once (20 games) for a total of 38 games.

Or if we have 4 conferences of 8 teams, you could play every team in yours twice (14) and everyone else once (24), for a total of 38 games.

I think conferences allow for something resembling a balanced schedule. Without conferences, there's a lot less rhyme and reason to scheduling, and you definitely can't play every team twice in a league the size of MLS (or larger). Unless we actually get something resembling pro/rel (which may not be tenable without major changes the league isn't ready for), conferences is how it's going to have to go.

Yeah, we're not going back to the MLS Cup Final for a third consecutive season.

It doesn't look like we're even going to make the playoffs. Not sure if we're burnt out from CONCACAF Champions League. We're just not clicking on offense and we're leaking goals. A real howler by Bono gave the Red Bulls the win today and Giovinco's penalty was saved to add to the misery.

Seattle here. We see your misery and raise it.

Not entirely MLS-related, but it is interesting to note that the current second division of U.S. soccer -- the USL -- is now officially creating a third division league to play in 2019. Soccer is on the boom here no doubt, but I'm guessing this does not mean good things for the NASL.

Toronto FC 2 will be joining this third division next season, dropping down from the USL. Hopefully more of these MLS farm teams (Sounders 2, Timbers 2, Galaxy 2, etc., etc.) follow suit so that we don't have a second division that looks like MLS Jr.

He cheated forward a couple steps and Darwin kept lobbing him, the real quizzical part of the game was how open you guys were at the backend. It seemed like no one was really interested in defending, and Bradley was the only midfielder that tracked back, and he did it rarely. It was a strange game.

Are people legit interested in seeing Rooney? Anyone know what position he will play? If he's going to be walking around midfield for 75 minutes it could be a pretty big bomb.

DC just traded away some of their forward depth, so all signs are pointing to Rooney playing up top. Especially considering DC has lots of wingers and attacking midfielders as well.

Whether people are actually interested in seeing him... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
