How has Ndommbele looked so far in the preseason?

I loved the kid at Lyon and wanted him in blue last year

      Re: Official Spurs Thread

A lot of negative attention around the club but if people take a step back and look at the results, two points from at City and at Arsenal, it is not all bad.

I'm not surprised by the Newcastle defeat. Poch's teams always have an ugly early game. Poch also hasn't figured out how to beat teams that sit 10 in the box.

With the window finally over, I think Spurs go on a good run after international break. The squad will be settled, Eriksen and Vertoghen are back and Ndombele will be healthy along with KWP and Foyth returning.

A lot of positives moving forward after a frustrating month that could have been much worse with defeats to City and Arsenal.

Not sure what knife robbers have against Tottenham but Dele was robbed at knife-point last night. Earlier this season Vertonghen's wife was robbed when Jan was out of town for a match.

Dele is back from suspension and Lucas/Lo Celso are cleared to play from their injuries. Hopefully, we rotate a bit tomorrow.

No matter how bad West Ham are playing, they show up in Tottenham every time. Spurs only have 2 wins in the last 8 at home in all comps against West Ham. I expect tomorrow to be another tight one.

            Re: Official Spurs Thread

I have not been very impressed with Jose on the pitch but am willing to give him time with a healthy squad. But I have been impressed/surprised at time in his interviews with how he is calmer/nicer than previously. His response to ARsenal's media page was nearly perfect IMO. Kept it focused on the media guy and not the Arsenal club but also let it known that winning North London is not a goal anyone should aim for.

Old Jose would have brought up some snarky comments about the club or tried making it personal in some way.

"If they were top of the league or fighting for top four and in a really good moment, they wouldn’t enjoy the problems of others," Mourinho said (via the Daily Mail).

"You only enjoy the problems of others when you are also in trouble. So I think in the end it’s a little more about that. They don’t have much to celebrate, so they have to take any opportunity to do it. They are in a very similar situation to us in the table.

"I don’t like to connect the club with such posts or tweets because probably the person who did it did it by himself. I don’t believe it was (Mikel) Arteta who posted it — probably it was some guy who has been working from home for three months. No problem, at home we will be waiting for them!"

Mourinho was then asked whether finishing below Arsenal in the table would bother him, but the boss insisted that while Arsenal dream of dominating north London, he dreams of dominating England.

"To be honest, to be the champions of north London means nothing to me," said Mourinho. "You must be bigger than that and have more ambition than that."

Possibly only the second time I've dipped my toes in here.

              1. The real moron here is the 'journalist' who asked about the stupid social media post. That's the level of journalism we now deal with regularly in the sport, and it's sad. I don't care what the social media accounts post, or what the managers say—I'm more annoyed that they're actually asked about such nonsense.

              2. As an Arsenal supporter, I can firmly say that I do not give a single **** about dominating North London. I'd lose to Spurs twice a year if it meant we were back in the Champions League, and if given the choice each year between defeating Man United or Spurs, I'd pick Man United. There's very much an over-focus from some Arsenal supporters on Spurs and being above them in the table, etc, but not so much from me. Yeah, I take shots at them because it's Spurs and it's friendly banter, but at the end of the day I'm more worried about where we are in the table than where they are, if that makes sense.

              Okay bye.

I mean, I'm with Kreb as well, mostly had nothing else for so long that beating/behind ahead of Spurs was just nice friendly banter, but I'd have traded two wins vs Spurs for a title or even just UCL football 110% of the time.

My thoughts too. I don't care about Arsenal and thought the whole St. Tottingham day was one of the worst fan base ideas I have heard in sports. No idea why so much focus is on a rival. .

I don't even care about finishing about Arsenal in the table if we are outside top 4. Neither are in CL so why celebrate?

didn't know if it was better here or elsewhere, but i just finished Spurs All or Nothing on Amazon, and well, I didn't like it very much, personally. Obviously I have some disdain for Spurs as a whole, but the whole documentary felt very 'fluffy' instead of real. The Juventus/Sunderland stuff I watched felt more real and less edited than this. That said I think it is still very much worth watching, if only for the entertainment that Mourinho provides throughout. Actually after typing that sentence, I think my issue is that this is supposed to be about Spurs, but it really felt like it was more about Mourinho, like Poch getting fired was just the first episode, but eh.

Also, turns out I don't dislike many of the Spurs players, but man do I hate Daniel Levy, lmao.

I finished this last night myself. And I feel exactly the same. It felt like a Jose fluff piece. It didn't really seem about Spurs all that much. It was also lame how they did Poch dirty like that. He was there for a quarter of the season, but was on screen for like 30 seconds. I also never realized how annoying Kane is to listen to speak.

                        Official Spurs Thread

Mourinho allegedly worked with a team to help rebuild his image after leaving United, and I feel like it’s clear there was an effort to do that based on his punditry and obvious efforts to cone off differently once Spurs hired him.

Yes, the documentary was set before any of that, but I’m sure there were talks with Mourinho’s people to make him the focus once filming of him began.

From everything I’ve heard, it’s why I won’t watch it. It’s a Mourinho rebuild vehicle not based entirely in reality. I’ve heard several parts feel far too scripted or made for the cameras that involve him.

I’ll always feel that him going to Spurs was about him rebuilding his image more than anything else, and he and his people knew he’d be center of that documentary.

I also think Spurs hires him to continue to fatten up the club for an inevitable sale. Having him there gets even more attention on the club and can make it more appealing.

Basically, nothing about Mourinho in the last several years is real. It’s calculated bull**** and he’s always finding new ways to make everything about him and not his players.

                        Okay, running away now.

Haha why not just watch it and make your own judgement? Just like with the City one and with Hard Knock ones from the NFL, some parts seemed very scripted but that happens when managers and teams do not want the public to see too much information.

During a Spurs podcast from the Athletic they were talking about how parts were cut out because they showed too much about tactics and other parts cut out because Poch's party did not want a lot of his ending shown. So it did turn into the Jose show but that was in large part due to Poch not wanting to be seen too much.

Yeah I thought it was pretty good even though you could tell they edited a lot of the tactical part out which is understandable. City did the same thing with Pep a few years back. It was all generic coach-speak with the occasional tactic being thrown in there.

I'm glad they didn't show much of Poch. The beginning when he was getting sacked was a little awkward but his personality would have made the series pretty boring IMO. Mou and his blunt honesty was pretty funny, especially the Danny Rose interaction and the time when he told Aurier in the pre-match meeting that he was basically a walking penalty waiting to happen lol.

They couldn't have picked a better club to follow last year given the drama and then COVID. I think I've seen them all, Dortmund/Brazil NT/City/Sunderland and I thought this one was the best. Brazil's Copa run was pretty good but the Portuguese to English translation was pretty bad.

The only person that I think who came away worse off was Levy. He seems like such a passive-aggressive coward lol.

Eh, I've heard from enough journalists now who did watch it to know that I'd be torturing myself if I were to watch it. There's certain food I don't need to try to know I won't like it, based on what I've had in the past, the appearance, the combination of flavors, etc.

Yeah, all of that makes sense, it's a real shame, even if the first episode had been a recap of previous year/window, struggles/cliffhanger of firing 3 act, with the second episode kicking off with the reporter reading the "Poch gets fired" headline, it would've felt better. Obviously not a tv producer, nor did I work on the show so dunno what all material they had to cut, but then again i'm just some random dude on the internet, and they seem to be doing well regardless of my criticisms.

Also, after thinking about KG's statement, I think I'd ultimately put this third, behind Sunderland/Juventus, ahead of Man City for the ones I've watched. I think the one thing that makes Sunderland stand above the rest(especially since Sunderland may be the only club I dislike at the same level as Spurs) is that there is a greater focus on how the club affects the people surrounding it. Now obviously it's a bit harder consider Spurs are one of a billion london clubs, but just a little less Jose fluff and a little more of "this bakery shop closes on matchdays because the owner has been a season ticket holder for 67 years" would've gone a long way for me, the viewer. The lack of fan interviews/non-playing staff stuff could also just be coronavirus related so obviously can't knock it too much, but I think it's a comfortable third for me. I just need to settle in and watch the Dortmund and Brazil NT ones to find out if they rank.
