Re: 2018-19 UEFA Competitions Thread
Having played a lot of soccer, and rewatched the penalty call several times, imo Kimpembe knows exactly what he's doing. Look at his face, look at Veratti, it's complete panic mode when that shot goes off. Obviously hard to prove and I totally understand why people wouldn't agree with me, but I think Kimpembe knows exactly what he's doing there.Comment

If I can do stuff like that in Sunday league and get away with it, then a professional athlete with infinitely more body control can certainly do it.Comment

Ole’s side just....won’t....die....
Kinda admirable in a way. He gets the full time job, right?

I don't see how he doesn't get it at this point considering what he's done since he got hired.#RespectTheCultureComment

I think you are spot on. I dont post here much as a United fan but to me, albiet biased, he knew exactly what he was doing. While its a hard decision, its also one made correctly. Jumping in the air like that and turning your body with your arms out a bit is a very dangerous way to play defense. Very very dangerous. Players are taught to be "big" when defending but they are also taught that if they are going to flail like that, make damn well sure your arms are totally in, especially considering we are in a VAR age. This is why you see so many players tuck their arms behind their body when wingers look like they are going to try to cross or pass the ball within the box. I do not like VAR for judgement decisions but its where we are and that is a handball.
I hate United but good to see you back around these parts Keirik!

Re: 2018-19 UEFA Competitions Thread
Thank you ! Ill try to post more but yeah, i know United are universally disliked with good reason so i keep quiet mostly. Its just so nice to have some positive vibes again with this club. Ole has to get the jov. I understand why they will wait a bit longer but in my mind its a formality at this point.Yankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment

He’s trying to get his whole body in the way, his limbs are all flailing. It’s a desperate “throw your body at it” kind of block. Also, you are generally told as a defender NOT to turn your back on a play, and stuff like this is one of the reasons.
The more I watch the replay, the more I think it’s crazy anyone could think that’s not a pen.Comment

Re: 2018-19 UEFA Competitions Thread
A few morning thoughts before I settle in on my snow day and prepare for the majestic Europa League to start.
1. I've caved a bit on the handball. I understand why it was given, but when it gets into judging intent/decisions made in real-time using slow motion, it's always going to be awkward and I'd care less about the call if rules were more clear. UEFA seems to be clearing them up for next year and apparently even verbally said how the rules will change, so it seems those have unofficially gone into effect. I just want consistency, but I know that's asking for way too much.
2. As someone who very much enjoys Unai Emery, I was very happy for him last night. The defeat to Barca was far more institutional than anything he did, and I always thought he got more of the blame than he should have. There are far bigger issues at that club than any manager can fix.
3. OGS is surely going to get the United job, but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't because I feel like they're in a difficult position. You essentially have to give him the job now (yeah I'm finally giving him some credit), but what if they could get someone else they've had their eye on? What if they could get Poch or Zidane? Do you pass that up because of the obligation of giving it to OGS? What if after a season he can't get the team higher than he has them now, and with more pressure on club performances dip?
I don't think it's as easy of a decision for United to make as it appears depending on what other planning they've done. Also, no matter how well he's done, he and the squad will be under different expectations next season and if he's officially given the job. They've been able to ride their underdog status for now, but eventually, it ends, and that could have an effect on things.Comment
