Re: 2018-19 UEFA Competitions Thread
To summarize, my root point is that if we're going to compare leagues, we need to normalize how we view a team vs how much money they spend/take in because other leagues/teams don't have the luxury of being as risk-averse with signings as the Premier League does. It doesn't guarantee success for every club, but it mitigates failure when they can just go back to the reserve. The bolded part you responded to was in response to the Brahv post where he was outlining PL teams spending cash, which is where that statement was borne, it was never even close to the crux of my argument.Support Local Sports

Anyway, I was purely talking about in Europe. Prem teams have been spending gobs of cash for a while and still get regularly knocked out of the CL and EL by teams spending a fraction of that.Comment

Re: 2018-19 UEFA Competitions Thread
My entire statement was about being less risk-averse, which all of the teams you listed have the luxury of doing because of large sums of money that are continuous. My entire point of why we would have to normalize for money is that when a team can afford to be less risk averse and sign Danny Drinkwater for 40m and have it not matter that he only plays 12 games over two years.

Tbf that list you posted has Liverpool at 7th, over a nearly 10 year period, with a League Cup to show for it. Even if they win the Prem this year, that's a pretty bad return. If they win it this season, that's just 2 in a 10 year period where they were bouncing between 4th-2nd highest spenders in the league.

Regarding the 2nd point, yeah but I think the influx of Prem cash which has attracted better managers from across the globe will help with this. Pep, Klopp, poor Jose, Emery, Sarri, Poch, etc... should help reverse this trend too, especially with the depth these squads are now capable of having. Now how long Pep will stay at City will be interesting but their board matching Pep's ambition with signings isn't a good thing for any of us except JJLinn.
Definitely can't erase the past but other clubs are starting to catch up to Barca/Real in terms of spending power/wage capabilities. The lure of Barca/Real will always be there though.Comment

Hats off to BR I payed for the 2nd half of the Arsenal game. They only charged me once this time and they have chromecast capabilities now. Quality was outstanding.

They draw the semifinals ahead of time now. Potential semifinals of Juve/Ajax vs. Spurs/City and Liverpool/Porto vs Utd/Barca

Naaa but you guys are going to need some of your defenders and middies and to be healthy.
You have the pieces to sit back on the counter and hit Barca on the break. Dembele just got hurt too and should miss ~ a month. He’s been really good for them and Ashley Young should breathe a huge sigh of relief.
I’d imagine Herrera will kick Messi to death though.

Yes, but I’m not sure of the timeframe that they expire.
I was able to pull up the Arsenal match from yesterday without an issue just now.

A Liverpool-Spurs final would cause maximum annoyance around here, so let's make it happen.Comment
