See? Like I always say, if there’s one thing you can count on Everton for, it’s that you can’t count on them for anything.Comment

Seriously why did Spurs bring back Bale? Is he actually injured or just left out yet again by Jose?Comment

There were reports that Jose was fine with it, but basically said we’re still getting an actual striker as well, yeah?
Ha, no.Comment

I know a few of us have been broken records about it, but they've needed for years to look to rugby. How the players know/have learned they can interact with the referee, how the referee interacts with them, how they communicate, everything.
It's one thing in the Premier League I've noticed a lot, is the way referees dismiss players away from them is, well, pathetic. In rugby, a referee has control but still speaks to players like they're humans. They're blunt, but authoritative. In the Premier League every weekend you see referees shoo players away, ignore them, and basically treat them as children. They've cultivated the climate they now work in by refusing to improve how they interact with players and managers. They don't seem to understand that having authority means you can still communicate with grace and tact.
No, we can't hear what they're saying, but the body language says it all.
Not saying referees are faultless because they are far from that. However, this game, our “beautiful” game has turned so far away from a game with integrity that I’m not sure a good chuck of that player dismissal by the referee isn’t on the players themselves as well.
I know a good argument is that if referees would just make the calls initially, diving and feigning wouldn’t be necessary but that’s no excuse in my opinion. It’s cheating. I really do believe if there were accountability held on players for a cheating, diving, and feigning, it would make it so much easier to see when a referee is just inept and should be held accountable.
The end of the day it’s grown professional athletes going down as if they were maimed for getting grazed ever so slightly sometimes and nothing ever happens to them for it. Nothing. Mike dean example to me is perfect. No way that’s a red card. We all agree including how the red was rescinded. However, Mitrovic still grasped at his face, did the jaw open, roll around as if a dagger went through his eye ball. I don’t even think Mitrovic realizes at this point what he’s done. It’s so ingrained in the players mind sets these days to act this way. It’s as common as a defender raising his arm for the offside flag. That’s a major problem to me.Yankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment

A lot less diving, whining, raising your hand for every call, and refutable to play the game when u think the referee will blow for a call in rugby....

I think if we saw a genuine attempt to change the culture surrounding refereeing in this sport, you would eventually see a change in that behavior by the players as well.
Right now, if a ref makes literally any call at all, even a correct one, you can see multiple players telling him to **** off lmao.
I think you need to make major changes to the whole system tbh. Simply a change to a more rugby like approach wouldn't be enough, because it would need to be coupled with far more accountability of the referees themselves. Imagine someone like Mike Dean and how he would act if all of a sudden the players had to treat him the way they treat rugby referees. It would be awful, he'd literally think he was god.
Refs need to be mic'd up, and should have to explain calls. Players need to be instantly yellow carded for crowding the ref, even if it takes giving out 7 yellow cards to a single team on a single call. Big sweeping changes would need to be made, and honestly I have zero faith the league would even recognize the need for change, let alone actually make the changes that need to be made.Comment
