Genuinely not sure Son is in the same boat as Kane.

People always say those two need to move on to bigger clubs while they can so they can win the trophies their skill deserves etc., but is Son really THAT good?

To play for the best teams in the world as a starter you need consistency, which Kane has. I don’t like him, but he’s an incredible player that would start for basically any top team that isn’t Bayern.

Son though? Idk it’s hard to say, because when he’s in form he’s genuinely world class, but he has VERY pronounced ( and lengthy) cold streaks and he has them every single season.

Honestly think Spurs might just be his level, unless he wanted to be a substitute player at a top club.

Had the sound off and after the game I saw Son on the ground in tears. I just assumed he was trying to win another foul.

What are doing controlling the ball with your chest in your own box Bartley? Serves you right!

That was madness. Just clear it away. Take the corner. Team isn't that good to assume there was enough team chemistry for that kind of play to work out. I feel bad for the supporters there. They're going down anyway, but to take away the hope like that. Ouch.

Didn't really expect much given the circumstances. I'm happy we tried playing out from the back but you can tell we haven't done that in 2 years. Everyone was hesitant, not in correct positions and just looked very confused. It's going to take time for the players to remember how to play possession style.

I completely agree. On forums I go on, it seems over fans rate Son higher than a lot of Spurs fans do. He's a favorite for sure but he's a streaky player. He will go on a tear for 2 months then go 2 months with 3 goals.

He was awful today. Should have come off instead of Lucas. Kane wasn't 100% today which was obvious with his limping but he still looked much better than Son did.

Pulling Lucas off instead of Son was insane honestly, Lucas was your best attacker by a mile in that game.

Almost as insane as playing a Winks/Sissoko midfield against Manchester City in a cup final lmao.

That was really bad by Mason. Winks I kind of understood, he wanted someone more defensive than Lo Celso and Ndombele. I didn't agree but I could see it. Sissoko made zero sense.

Bale for Son, Ndombele for Lo Celso and Dele for Winks were the subs I was wanting around the hour mark when it was 0-0 still.

Why try playing from the back without a player who can dribble through pressure like Ndombele makes no sense.

But, it's hard for me to blame Mason too much. He's in way over his head.

Son's probably less of a risk though considering Kane's injury history. Put it this way....his ankle is jacked up and he's gonna play on it the rest of the year, this summer at the Euros, and then next season + the winter WC. He's going to fall apart.

I would love to have Kane on Chelsea but he's a HUGE risk IMO. Son to me is right up there with guys like Gnabry, Coman, Sane, Sterling, etc... A step below guys like Salah and Mane (although Mane has fallen off a cliff, looks exhausted). Good on the wing, can play up top ina 2 man partnership, etc...

I know I previously joked about Kane sticking around forever to try and break records, but for a few years I've honestly thought that he's going to retire earlier than he should due to his club and his own ridiculous injury mismanagement.

Absolutely. He looks completely drained. His goal last week against Leeds was his first since January.

West Ham are appealing Balbuena's red card today.

Right or wrong, what I find frustrating is that a few minutes later Coufal clears a ball and does the exact same thing and kicks Rudiger high on the hip on the follow through. Nothing was done about that one. Ref did nothing, no VAR check or anything. There is no consistency whatsoever. David Moyes even mentioned it post-match even though it was his player that did it.

What I learned about VAR today via James McNicholas from The Athetlic (Gunnerblog) made my want to put my head through a wall.

Apparently, the drawing of the lines and looking at very close calls is 100% at the discretion of the actual VAR (the person in charge). Now, that's not surprising, but what is surprising was to learn that some officials take the stance of "that's so close that if we look at it and start drawing lines on it, it'll only cause trouble" so they leave it, as they should because it's just too close to call. But some happily draw the lines and play that game.

It's that ****ing inconsistent, by design. Some are smart enough to realize that if a call is too close, leave it, but some just can't help but feel that they're a part of the game so they draw lines and select whatever frame of video they'd like.

                              Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I'm just really not a fan of the lines at all, mostly because I don't think that we should be changing calls that humans can't discern in real-time. If there's no chance the human official could ever make the call, why are we changing it, or why do we still have humans and Mike Dean officiating?
