Re: 2020-2021 English Football Thread
Letter of the law all of these are handballs, but its against the spirit of the game sometimes. If the player knows nothing about it, its so harsh calling these VAR handballs. Its the rule though so if they aren't going to change the rule, then it is what it is. We are getting to the point though that you're almost better off heading a ball down into a crowd and hoping its handled rather than trying to go for goal sometimesYankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment

It actually seemed like that's what Newcastle were going for at the end in general. Hit it into the box and hope it hits an arm.Comment

Re: 2020-2021 English Football Thread
It was quite a few posts back, so you probably missed it, but I think this will be a bit of an anomaly. They are showing the last two days of the Tour de France on NBCSN in the early morning both days.
Next week's schedule returns to having 6 matches on NBCSN/NBC on Saturday and Sunday. It appears that they will be broadcasting Monday games exclusively on Peacock, by the way.
EDIT: NBC also has US Open golf coverage this weekend starting at 11 Eastern on Saturday and Noon Eastern on Sunday on the main channel. Without that, I almost guarantee they'd be putting the Chelsea/Liverpool on the main channel if the golf wasn't on. Or the Tour on main and the match on NBCSN. You get the point though. They have other broadcasting obligations that are pushing EPL out. And they're clearly going to push things to Peacock instead of channels like MSNBC from now on when this happens.
Welp, tomorrow 3pm. Liverpool vs Arsenal exclusively on Peacock.
Whats on NBCSN? Car auctions lolYankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment

Taking Arsenal/Liverpool off of NBCSN seems like a great way to minimize a league that you paid decent money for the rights to air. You still want to bring in new viewers to the sport/league. One of the things that hooked me on soccer were the Monday matches on ESPN with Ian Darke.Comment

The pub I’ll be at tomorrow bought the pub pass for the soccer so I should be good. They also have a sky sports feed too.
NBC is trying to sell peacock subscriptions it seems like.

While the weekday match on Peacock isn’t ideal, this weekend had tons of matches on NBCSN.
I believe it was three each on Saturday and Sunday. That’s still pretty great coverage, but I don’t pay for cable, just Sling, so my perspective is different.
As someone without cable, Sling Blue + Peacock to watch all league matches for $35/month is a steal.Last edited by Krebstar; 09-27-2020, 05:31 PM.Comment

Re: 2020-2021 English Football Thread
yeah but come on. We all see what they are trying to do here. Cant obviously do it all in one fell swoop, but this is the start. Not saying they are going to eventually have none of NBCSN but it's going to end up being mandatory to buy Peacock if you want to see premium matches .
They've slowly taken more and more away. It's fine for some of us that are big fans of football and will pay, but this doesn't help reach out to a new audience. Yes they dont actually need that, but in this country it specifically would help broaden the game. The casual fan not being able to see a match like that is pretty sad.Yankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment

I guess I’m in the minority, but I don’t have much of an issue with what they’re obviously doing. If they want to eventually consolidate the league matches to a cheaper and increasingly accessible platform, awesome.
As for broadening the league, is continuing to place the product on a platform tied to traditional cable the best approach? I’d say not.
Their goal should be and most likely is to not convert traditional American sports fans but to instead continue to grow interest in the game with youth. That’s not going to be done via cable or satellite packages.Last edited by Krebstar; 09-27-2020, 07:22 PM.Comment

I don’t think they’re even close to breaking even with how much the rights cost, and they’ve been airing for several years now. They have the numbers, and frankly I don’t think they care what casual fans see because casual fans aren’t giving them the ratings they need. Also, I might be crazy but haven’t we been getting more games on NBCSN since it came back in summer?
Anyway, next time the rights go up for bid it’s going to be even more expensive. Imagine if NBC doesn’t think it’s worth it.
EDIT: I also mentioned that it looks like all Monday matches will be on Peacock.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 09-27-2020, 06:37 PM.Comment
