If Emery taking out Arsenal stops them from losing to United in the final I’m all for it.

Re: 2020-21 UEFA Competitions Thread
Coquelin got healthy just in time lol.
Villarreal is sneaky good though. Pace with Chukiweeze and Moreno. Good passing midfielders in Parejo and Iborra. Pau Torres will be on a Top 6 English side next year, etc...
Should be a good semi-final.

But we have to get there first, and I don’t think we will.Comment

Re: 2020-21 UEFA Competitions Thread
The new UCL “Swiss Model” format is just [emoji2363]
36 teams staring in 2024-25
1 giant division
Each team play 10 of the other teams
Top 8 advance to the knockout rounds
That means 4 additional mid week games for a max total of 17 for the entire campaign.
3 of 35 spots will be based on “historical UEFa coefficient”
Not sure how this better than then Super League.
Oh and they added a new Europa Conference League.

The greed of UEFA certainly adds fuel to the fire, but this is almost entirely on the owners of the 12 clubs.Comment

Re: 2020-21 UEFA Competitions Thread
I agree the blame is on the owners but UEFA should not be seen as the “good guys” here. IMO their new CL changes really pushed the 12 owners to make the change now.
Seems strange super league has been discussed for so long but is suddenly pushed through the same time as more CL changes are coming.Current careers:

It's more that it's being pushed through after surviving this pandemic, and the associated economic crisis. I, personally, firmly believe that this was planned for in the future to roll out in 2024, and potentially with less backlash, but the debt caused by the pandemic for some of the "big clubs" caused them to move timelines forward.Support Local Sports

Also genuinely think the American owners involved didn’t anticipate THIS much backlash this fast. I’m pretty sure they thought a bunch of people would love this idea.Comment

Re: 2020-21 UEFA Competitions Thread
Not to yell at too many clouds, but there are generations and also types of viewers who will eat this up. They watch now and then, but a whole match rarely keeps their attention. They bought FIFA a few years ago and only know and play with the top teams. They never understood why La Liga playing a league match in the US would be so wrong. On and on.
But I agree, I think the American owners vastly underestimated the history and social ties that football has within Europe (and elsewhere, but this is happening in Europe). If they for once treated the clubs they own as anything more than a business, they would've been more prepared for the type of reaction. They had no idea so many people care so much for another item in their portfolio.Comment

Well, they will, they're just not going to be as vocal.
