Re: 2021-2022 English Football Thread
Knew Forest were going to be tough to beat there. Survive and advance.
Now let’s throw another City/Pool in there during the home stretch.Comment

Daily Mail have touched on it today. Doing away with the cup-tied rule.
Conor Gallagher unable to play at Wembley as Palace get drawn with Chelsea.

Re: 2021-2022 English Football Thread
Looks like multiple sets of fans are going back in on trying to get the semifinals moved away from Wembley.
Looking forward to seeing if there are any creative new excuses for keeping it there or if the FA will just use the same ones as before.Comment

Re: 2021-2022 English Football Thread
There are literally no direct trains from Liverpool or Manchester to London currently scheduled on the weekend of the semifinal because of scheduled maintenance work. It's Easter weekend too.
This isn't even a new revelation either. The FA was warned about this in September.Comment

Re: 2021-2022 English Football Thread
The excuse that will get brought out is that OT can’t be used (fair, United play that weekend) and Villa Park (the other main venue that was used for semi finals during the Wembley rebuild) doesn’t have the capacity given how skewed ticketing is these days towards corporate seats
I don’t know about suitability around fixtures (St James’ Park) or VAR capabilities (Stadium of Light) but both are around 50,000 capacity and a more reasonable trip for both sets of fans
Even the Millennium Stadium (or Principality I think they call it now) would be fine, they used it for finals for almost a decade and isn’t much smaller than Wembley is without the ridiculous lack of transport (Cardiff is also a much more enjoyable city than London but that’s another point entirely)

Re: 2021-2022 English Football Thread
Buses are probably the worst transport from northern England to London. They go through the busiest roads in the country, buses are so poorly maintained in the country that there are calls for laws to be brought in requiring wheels to be replaced after so many miles of use that have been consistently squashed, even though those campaigns started because of deaths caused by a bus crash because its tires were bald
There is a high speed train service operating from Liverpool, through Manchester and Crewe that gets you to London in roughly 2.5 hours while a bus journey during Easter weekend on the busiest roads with a major cup game on is probably going to take something approaching 10. I take that train every year when going to London for the NFL games because it gives me options including travelling on the same day as the game
As it stands, fans will have to travel on Friday (which thankfully is a national holiday) and then stay overnight in London, which will be way more expensive because of demand, if they want to be sure they’ll reach London in time for the game. Otherwise they’ll need to leave just after midnight
No shots at City here either, I think that’s a great consideration for their fans and I hope Liverpool follow suit but it shouldn’t be on the clubs to make up for the FA’s inability to plan and use contingencies. One suggestion I saw was to switch the league and cup games, so the cup game would be played the weekend prior and the league game would be played Easter weekend. A sensible answer that will be ignored because Sky won’t like it and nobody who makes decisions at the FA can take credit for it
Just a ****ty situation for fans that could’ve been avoided
