That aerial replay showed just how slowly the MF responded to that counter attack...

Whoever was trailing Memphis must have enjoyed the view bc they made no attempt to catch up to the biggest goal scoring threat on the field.

      Awful.

I’m no soccer expert but why was Tyler Adams just casually jogging behind Memphis there while he’s wide open?

If they was a game Wright would be useful, this is it... so start Ferreira.

Wright couldn’t even be bothered to run after loose balls as a sub so idk.

The answer was probably just to play without a striker and put Reyna out there.

It's not even half an hour in, and nobody likely cares, but as an American who watches a lot of football but never the USMNT (I've heard some of these names but haven't seen many play) here's what's abundantly clear to me so far:

              • The US has explosive athleticism, but is severly lacking in technical skills (which informs the next point)

              • They attack in a way that does not suit them by moving the ball too quickly and passing too ambitiously

              • They seem poorly coached (what I assume is not a novel thought) and by that I mean they seem to have no real attacking plan—at all

Overall, they look like a D1 side that's trying to play a certain way, but they can't (trying to pass like the best teams in the world but without their players). Just some thoughts from an, uh, outsider.

Decision making in the final third is very bad, but it doesn’t help that they have no plan and constantly look like they are out of ideas.

I don’t think they are passing too quickly or ambitiously, it’s just that again the decision making when we get into the final third is really bad. It’s what happens when you have a coach like Berhalter who thinks that having possession is the same thing as attacking.

They definitely are passing too much near the box looking for the perfect goal. Just now the ball is in the box and they still didn't take a shot.

They have 1 shot so far and they controlled the possession.

Finally a shot and it forces a save and a rebound. Do more of that.

Lack of an overall plan is definitely evident.

There have just been several one-touch passes that I've shaken my head at and thought it's the kind of pass players see others make, but doesn't mean they should be trying to make them, also. Or, through balls that are weighted incredibly poorly. Again, passes many players can make, but even more shouldn't try. But, I think that goes back to no plan—if there's no plan, the only thing you can do is try and thread an impossible needle.

This Berhalter chap looks like a USNMT manager, and by that I mean mostly clueless, and that he preaches fundamentals of how to strike a ball but isn't exactly sure where the ball should be struck to.

Terrible - back breaking mistake. Twice a defender has been caught flat footed and twice the Dutch have made them pay.

We are SO bad in the attacking third.

Pulisic has honestly been dreadful all tournament with most of his delivery from both corners and run of play... save for a few moments.

McKennie has not looked good in attack, either.

And, yeah, Wright might run less than Berbatov... but he Coyle at least win a header in the box on the off chance

                            Great teams do that.

I think they could score 4+ if they tried. They are just sitting back and have 2 goals.

They are who we thought they were.

Pretty much that simple. At least they made it this far.

Had a pretty good idea that USA wouldn't make it past this round, but down 2 at the half. Yikes.
